IMSA’s opportunities are one of the main reasons I am applying. As I want to pursue a career in the medical field, especially in sports medicine. I believe that IMSA’s opportunities will help me achieve these goals of mine through the community and the overall culture at IMSA, and I believe I can contribute to IMSA’s environment by involving myself in the extensive extracurricular activities IMSA has.
IMSA has a great community, which is one of the main reason I am applying. IMSA has great opportunities to forward an interest in the medical and STEM field, which tend to go hand and hand. Not only do I think that the critical thinking and independent research classes will help benefit me and the peers I will work with, I believe that the extracurricular activities at IMSA are what really makes this school stand out. At the school I currently go to, they prioritize sports over most other extracurriculars, with the highest funded club being the debate and speech teams. Even though these clubs are important in building teamwork and leadership abilities, they are very limited in learning about medical and STEM terms. This is why I believe that the clubs at IMSA such as their science olympiad team will help me learn more about the field that I love. By having peers that will constantly challenge me every day, this will make me strive to become better than them and have something to work for.

Since my school does not directly prioritize STEM-associated extracurricular activities, I believe that IMSA will help me achieve the goals that I seek in these fields. At IMSA, with peers that excel in these fields, we will challenge each other to become better than we are already and create new connections and friendships in IMSA’s welcoming
Some of my extracurricular activities include Science Olympiad, STEM Academy, International Club, Advanced Academics Club, and Chem Club. During high school I have participated in various community-based organizations, the two most common being Beta Club and National Honor Society. However while these clubs have allowed me to give back to my community in numerous ways, it was strangely not either of these clubs that expanded my interest in the following particular social issue. Rather it was my involvement in Science Olympiad, specifically volunteering to help run a local Elementary school tournament, that expanded my view of the STEM field.
In my junior year of high school, I joined the leadership program called ASB, also known as associated student body. I had the honor and role of being the school’s unofficial videographer to promote events with videos and short films posted on our social media sites because of my passion for video editing and artistic abilities. I also became responsible as being chairman for one of our committees to organize special recognition events for our senior athletes. ASB made my work stressful and challenging, but it was a good way to connect with others.
Why do you want to go to Asmsa? Why leave home for this school? Is it even the right place for you? All of these questions I have heard be asked before, by my parents, my friends, even I ask myself if this is the right choice, but every time I hear it, I have the answer ready. Of course Asmsa is the right place for me, not only is the school I’ve looked forward to going to since the 7th grade, It is the type of school I’ve always needed to put me in the mindset for learning. The school is a community of learners and full of people who want to achieve, to do more than just graduate, to be more than just valedictorian, and to ask the questions that most wouldn't even care about. The staff at Asmsa is also very educated in the fields they teach, so any and all questions you may have they can answer and don’t teach “for the test,” so to
In high school, I was part of SkillsUSA, a national organization that heavily focused on Career and Technical Education for students in high school and in college. It was my junior year in high school and I had become fascinated with this organization. There are many types of competitions such as cosmetology or architecture and engineering where students can showcase their talents along with what they have learned in school. My range of skills allowed me to compete in different types of computer and leadership competitions. This led me to many different experiences that have greatly influenced my personality and have allowed me to learn that there are many important aspects to have a good character. Having won some competitions and lost others has given me experiences that allowed me to improve myself and to truly understand how some parts of our personality are important.
IMSA also offers many extracurricular activities, which I can be a part of and contribute to. Not only can I join clubs about my interests, such as robotics, I can also be part of clubs that will expand my interests. Some of these clubs are not offered at my current high school. Not only will these clubs help me adjust to IMSA life, but I will also be participating in something I enjoy. I play tennis, and IMSA offers a tennis team. I enjoy writing, so I could be a part of the writing clubs. There are many organizations I can be apart of at IMSA.
After over 15 years of working as a CNA and Caregiver, I decided that I wanted to continue my education in the medical field. In 2013 I took the first step towards gaining a better future with more experience as a medical professional. I enrolled into a Medical Assistant program at IBMC college of Longmont. It has been a long road and I am almost to the finish line having gained essential skills needed to move further into my career. It has been a grueling and eye opening experience for me being an adult learner returning back to school at 33 years of age. I persevered through these pass two years with courage and determination, never letting my short comings get the best of me. As I approach the end of my journey with IBMC I have realized that I have a passion for helping those persons who
I want to be in ASB because I think that this is a great opportunity for me to practice my leadership skills to help all students at Medea Creek. I enjoy helping people and working with others and I know that ASB is a wonderful chance for me to do so. I know that our school should have voices that help others who cannot speak up for themselves and I will help them raise their voices in school. I want to be part of ASB because I think that this can help me mature, and also help achieve my goal for life, which is becoming the president of the U.S. I believe that ASB is a unique opportunity to help me become a game-changer in our school and community. ASB students make changes in their community every day. I think that that is an amazing thing, getting to impact your community every single day.
My involvement in the Science Olympiad community has stemmed from the 7th grade and my dedication is unremitting. If I had to continue only one activity, Science Olympiad would be at the forefront because of the opportunities it has provided me to learn and grow. Since junior high, it has provided me a medium to excel my passion for science and learn more about the world around us. My eagerness to learn has been matched and cultivated by the dedicated coaches and volunteers and I cannot let my drive perish while attending college. The community dedicated time to assist me and I have, as well, dedicated time to teach younger Science Olympians. In college, whether it is being involved with collegiate level science competitions and/or volunteering
Female and minority students are underrepresented in upper level science, technology, engineering, and math courses in high schools. Data collected from a freshman class survey and subsequent follow up discussions revealed that interventions can positively impact motivation and interest in STEM subjects and postsecondary goals. Online activities such as developing student profiles, completing interest inventories, and career searches foster understanding of personal strengths. Partnering with the local college heightened enthusiasm and helped bridge connections with all students. Through these efforts, students in a low socioeconomic school setting were encouraged to believe in themselves and take steps toward future goals.
In my AMCAS primary application, I didn 't get the opportunity to talk about my background. I believe my upbringing will have a profound effect on the physician I will become and the patients I will be able to serve. Also, it will allow me to transition efficiently into the diverse student body at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and the society of Saint Louis.
It was a cold winter’s night when Abraham decided to get up for a walk. He sat in bed, threw his feet on the floor and rose like he had done countless times before with his cane in his hand, he put one foot in front of the other and followed with a turn but suddenly he heard a loud snap. He immediately found himself on the floor in agonizing pain. Later it was revealed that Abraham had broken his femur onset by Stage 3 bone cancer. After two long years of rehab and chemotherapy, Abraham lost his battle with cancer that plagued his body. Abraham's passing was greatly mourned by many including myself as he was my grandfather whom I deeply loved. The tragedy that befell my family awoke my curiosity about cancer. Suddenly I became consumed with a disease I had largely disregarded. In the months following my grandfather's death, most of my free time was dedicated to researching its inner workings, intricacies and
Most people that are striving to enter into any part of the medical field do so for the love and compassion for others. Wanting to help others, especially in a time of need and also being able to work with others who share the same interests and goals. In general, being able to have a career in doing what they love and believe in, but for me there is so much more than that. At first glance I probably seem quite similar to any of the other applicants that are probably well deserving in their own rights; although I have a unique background all my own that tells a story of why I am here, seeking opportunity.
The multitudes of extracurricular and academic activities I participate in were chosen because of their focus on my interests. I want to pursue a career in computer engineering and/or biological engineering. In order to help me accomplish this I carefully consider how extracurricular and academic activities will assist me in the future. Currently I am participating in several rigorous academic courses such as AP Physics C and AP Calculus BC to gear me towards a college environment, as well as a variety of clubs that focus on engineering and the sciences. A vast majority of the classes I take are advanced placement, which gives me the chance to obtain college credit before entering college. Advance placement classes also challenge me with faster paced instruction, which prepare me for the speed and difficulty of college level courses. I am currently taking AP Biology, AP Computer Science A, , AP Literature and Composition, AP U.S. Government and Politics, Pre-AP Chinese IV, and Honors Independent Research. In terms of extracurricular activities, I currently participate in the Stock Market Club, Science and Engineering Club, our school’s FRC team, and Chinese Club. In my free time I enjoy building computers, putting together parts lists for computers, programming, playing video games, and learning about various technical jobs and new computing technologies such as server administrator and quantum computing.
Prior to beginning these interviews, participants will sign a consent form and complete a demographic form (Palmer et al.,2011). The demographic form will include general information such as the student’s name, year, age, parent education, and high school grade point average. The first interview will discuss the students’ thoughts and predictions on how the class will go, their academic and social involvement, and academic preparation. This interview provides the background information about the students’ opinions of STEM. The next set of interviews will be about the course, teaching style, classroom atmosphere, and their adjustment. This set analyzes how the students are balancing their academic and social life and how the intervention strategies are benefiting their learning. Finally, the last set of
While grades and test scores serve as a testament to a student’s success, the numbers do not always indicate the type of student the applicant is. “Extracurricular activities are the major way students can demonstrate how unique they are, possibly more interesting, even “better” than other student applicants, and showcase what they love to do” (Shaevitz). College applicants inquire about extracurricular activities to gauge the potential of the student. Although many believe balancing schoolwork with extracurricular activities can be too stressful or demanding, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations;
