Throughout my high school tenure at Roncalli High, I’ve been graced with some of the best teachers around. They have taught me to have pride, passion, and courage in everything that I pursue. Roncalli is a school where excellence is our average and the students are pushed to go farther than they think they can. These specific values have stuck to my heart and I know will carry me through my collegiate years.
My pride isn’t just in the school that I represent, whether that be my high school or SDSU, but it is also geared towards myself and what I bring to the table. In my work and in my actions, I take pride in who I am and how I want to be perceived. Not only do I want others to be happy with what I’ve accomplished, but I too need to be happy with the final outcome knowing I gave it my all. My personal pride is my complete heart and soul given into everything that I do.

Most of the time, my heart is what leads me in the direction that I’m going and it can get the best of me, as it does with anyone. That passion, the fuel to the fire, the drive to succeed; to put forth my best work is to push the limits and to pour my heart into what I’m going after. I don’t need other to push me for me to be active; I’m proactive and drive myself to be better than I was and to stand out from the crowd. To have a personal drive that pushes me to go past the bare minimum is what makes me stand out from the
In the article, “The Top 5 Reasons most people fail”, it states, “...we have to take action in order to get somewhere.” Chris Gardner needed to take action for the sake of his family. He went from door to door, and no matter how hard he tried, he was barely scraping by with the funds of his medical machine. There was an opportunity for a job at Dean Witter and Chris Gardner took the opportunity in a heartbeat. He lands a spot amongst the 20 interns competing for a paid position as a stockbroker. Chris Gardner did not know where to start however he put in as much effort he could put in to get there. When an individual takes on a big role, there is that voice in the back of the head saying they can not handle the task ahead of them. This can further lead to the feeling of depleted motivation and irresponsibility. Having the willpower to fight off the voice and conquering the task can determine a person’s grit and can further validate their
People should forget pride and do what is best for others because it makes them a better person, even though having pride in accomplishments is praiseworthy. It is important to realize that modern society does not usually praise an individual’s pride because it is viewed as arrogant and boastful. Furthermore, people should strive to do what is best for the most people, and admit to their mistakes, because it makes them a better person, even if they have to abandon their beliefs.
When one thinks of pride, one would rarely think of a modest person who devotes much of their time to volunteering and philanthropy. Typically, one would think of an arrogant politician or movie star, someone so self-absorbed that they almost entirely ignore the needs of those around them. However, even the humblest acts of virtue can arise from pride as well. Time and time again we hear the story of Icarus, the boy who became entranced with his own pride and flew too close to the sun. However, there is another story of pride we hear less often, the person who takes pride in their own humility. Rather than take pride in typical things such as wealth, prestige, or even appearance, these people take pride in their modesty and virtue. In this
“Pride is a wonderful terrible thing, a vine that bears both life and death.”, this quote is from “The Scarlet Ibis”, and the context is pride can be good and helpful or it can be bad and harmful. This is a relevant quote because it shows pride is a good and bad. This quote is like my thesis because pride can be good. Therefore, pride is an attractive trait to possess because it drives a person to accomplish tasks; proud of personal achievements and motivates us to help others success.

Looking back on my three years at Twin Cities Academy, I find myself wondering how all these years came and went so fast. I still watch myself walking through the same halls and sitting in the same classrooms as I did back in 6th and 7th grade and I’ve seen myself grow so much, mentally, socially and physically. I still remember everything that has happened throughout my years, the best of times, and the worst.
When considering the connotation of pride and whether it is a good or bad characteristic it is important to consider the definition applied. Pride, according to the Oxford Press Dictionary, is defined as “a feeling of pleasure or satisfaction that you get when you or people who are connected with you have done something well or own something that other people admire.” While this definition does not insinuate a faulty or sinful perception, and a healthy measure of pride is acceptable, there is a line of demarcation that cannot be crossed. Pride has become a customary and unquestioned value that has been ingrained in culture because society the structure and precepts of God have been removed from the worldview. Pride has evolved beyond a beneficial characteristic and, for some, has morphed from an acceptable satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements, to an unreasonable desire or love of one 's own excellence.
My motivations in life have always been centered on my desire to maintain independence and happiness. My passions for physical therapy and health originated from those same motivations. Throughout my childhood, I repeatedly found myself in tough situations that required a level of self -dependency and perseverance that I don’t believe many young minds possess. My parents’ divorce put my life on a trajectory that could have easily been destructive. As a young girl, I realized that despite the lack of control I felt in my hardships growing up, I had control over my academic and future successes. I vowed that I would remember the struggles I faced and concentrate my energy on creating a better life for myself. To this day, it is important to me
