The Babysitting Experience Early in December, I concluded the first semester of the school year and was looking forward to the holiday break that lay ahead. Although, with Christmas three and a-half weeks away, I still hadn’t save up the amount of money I planned to spend on gifts for the holidays. Struggling to reach my goal, I began to look for alternatives to a traditional job. In order to earn the money in record time, I mustn’t deter myself from my goal, even if my job options were narrow. With that in mind, I asked my friends and mom if they knew of anybody looking for an occasional babysitter. A week had passed and I was beginning to lose hope, but then one afternoon, my mom came to me with good news about the job hunt. “I told your …show more content…
“I brought over some food, the kids diapers, and sippy cups,” Maddison referred to the bag she set down on the kitchen counter, “They’ll be shy at first until they become comfortable, just turn on cartoons and they’ll just sit there.” The collection of directions Maddison provided on how to deal with the kids made me feel more at ease; however, none of which inclined me for the day that lay ahead. The day was off to an unsteady start and within minutes the movie I put on the TV began to go unnoticed. Within minutes Paxton fell into the dog’s water dish, drenching his only pair of pants. On the other hand, Everlee colored coloring pages on the coffee table contently. Within minutes I was learning just how whimsical toddlers can be. The amount energy between Paxton and Everlee seemed to be perennial, but after a couple of hours of playing in the front yard with my cats and running amuck they finally seemed to be settling down. With this in mind, I brought the kids inside, popped a movie into the DVD player and began to set the atmosphere for nap time. The first to fall fast asleep was Everlee, moreover, with her chips in her lap and head turned towards the ceiling. As fast as Everlee fell asleep, I hoped Paxton would follow in suit, but as the time passed, I came to the conclusion that he wasn’t ever going to nap. During the hours when Everlee was asleep and Paxton was as calm as he’d …show more content…
All I received in response was fiercer crying and knew Paxton was well past reasoning. At my side Everlee was indifferent to the situation as she teetered along while I brought her and her wailing brother back into the house. As my babysitting gig came to an end, I found myself comforted by the thought of handing the kids over to my cousin, Maddison. When Maddison came and knocked on the door at the end of the day, I felt my stress dissipate, as much as I loved babysitting Everlee and Paxton, the best part of my day was when the lot of them drove away. The well-earned stillness and solitude surrounded me like a warm blanket. Reflecting back on the day, I appreciated babysitting Everlee and Paxton, and even though periodically I felt like quitting, I persevered through the day and acquired enough money to buy meaningful gifts for the holidays. With the day behind me I felt accomplished and
Often, childcare costs may exceed low-wage earners ' income, making work, especially in a job with no potential for advancement, an economically illogical activity. In 30 Days one of Morgan’s co-worker had four kids, whereas he had none, and he is supporting them on the same minimum wage. However, some single parents are able to rely on their social networks to provide free or below-market-cost childcare. There are also some free childcare options provided by the government, such as the Head Start Program. However, low-wage jobs force workers to accept irregular schedules for these free options, only which are available during certain hours, which can limit parents ' ability to take jobs that require late-night shifts. In which in this situation, it causes it to be even more difficult for a single low wage parent to receive free childcare. In fact, some employers will not hire someone unless they have "open availability," which means being available to work any time, any day. This makes it difficult for workers to arrange for childcare and to take on a second job. In addition, minimum-wage workers, working hours may fluctuate wildly from one week to the next, making it difficult for them to budget effectively and save up
Susie’s mother opened the door to let Molly, Susie’s babysitter, inside. Ten-month old Susie seemed happy to see Molly. Susie then observed her mother put her jacket on and Susie’s face turned from smiling to sad as she realized that her mother was going out. Molly had sat for Susie many times in the past month, and Susie had never reacted like this before. When Susie’s mother returned home, the sitter told her that Susie had cried until she knew that her mother had left and then they had a nice time playing with toys until she heard her mother’s key in the door. Then Susie began crying once again.
I was originally going to complete my service learning project at Kitchen for the Poor, located at 650 Vance St in Toledo, Ohio. But in view of my capacity to volunteer because of my work hours, I had to pick an alternate administration to partake in. Instead, I had the opportunity to volunteer at Momee’s Daycare. Momee’s Daycare is owned and operated by Renee Bowen, and her location is at 756 Wenz Rd. in Toledo, Ohio. Her company has five employees, situated in the proprietor’s home.
In the beginning of 2012, I lost my job and have been searching for a job for several months. At that time I was very stressed because I could not find anything that was suitable for me. One weekend, I decided to go to the shopping mall for some window shopping because i...
Sally is amongst the most wonderful mothers I have ever known. She begins each morning – rain-or-shine, lively-or-sick – at three o’clock sharp, when the late night grasshopper chirps are mixed with those of the early birds’. Now, she doesn’t arrive at work until nine and only spend thirty minutes getting herself freshened-up, dressed, and fed. So where does all of her remaining time go? The short answer is: Sally is devoted to singlehandedly preparing her daughter for each day ahead. No lack of congratulations is welcomed for her nor the thousands of mothers who struggle with the same tasks of caring for their infants. Like other mothers, Sally wakes, bathes, dresses, feeds, and prepares a list of items that her daughter will need at the
I stood at the end of the driveway with a bag of clothes and my little sisters by my side. My dad pulled up, we got in the truck, and we drove about 10 minutes until we got to his shop. This would seem like a normal day, but things were different this time. We weren 't at the shop to ride the four wheelers around or to play basketball in the garage or to mess with the pinball machines. There was a gloomy feel about everything around us. Even though I didn’t say anything, I knew things were changing.
Then came that dreaded friday; Parent- Teacher Conference. It was a half that day and her Mom came to pick her up. As they talked inside, she played outside with her friends, not a
Before this incident, I had babysat thousands of times. Babysitting was something that I really enjoyed and still do enjoy. However, this experience scared me a lot. It was in December of this last year. It had snowed a tremendous amount, which had resulted in three snow days! The first snow days Green River Wyoming had had in 28 years! I remember it was especially cold that day, so I was wearing my sweater and long thermal socks. We had a fire going in our fireplace, but it was still chilly. I hadn't done much that day, and we could not go anywhere because we were told not to drive on the roads unless it was an absolute emergency, due to the snowy road conditions. So I was stuck at home freezing my buns off. After
Furthermore, there are clear distinctions in the type of naps that are commonly used. Some people may choose to nap to replace lost sleeping time, which is referred to as “replacement napping”, others may want to prepare for an extended period of wakefulness by napping, which is also known as “prophylactic napping”, and a third motivation to nap is described as appetitive napping, when a person naps for pure enjoyment of falling asleep (Milner & Cote, 2008). These three types of naps could apply to the subject of this particular study, which is a college student. College students are subject the enormous amounts of stress and pressure from parents and teacher to get all their work done, perform in the classroom, obtain good grades, etc… and they form a group that could profit largely from napping.
Would you please come and get him?” Janice receives multiple phone calls from staff at Alex’s school to come pick him up and take him home. He isn’t purposely being disruptive, he’s excited and eager to learn and sometimes the teachers don’t understand that, says Janice. For Janice to always be “on-call” to collect her son definitely makes it difficult for her to hold down a steady job. The final straw was when Janice walked into the school and found her son sitting in the school reception area with his older sister, while the rest of the students enjoyed a nice Christmas party.
Nowadays, both parents work as women are beginning to get good positions. 60.5% women are working and full-time working mothers often are employed in managerial levels as full time working fathers. This means they are often wealthy, and their time is dominated by work. A higher percentage of women and men with full time jobs have children younger than 12 than those without children or those in part-time jobs. The percentage of men and women is almost the same. As a result, mothers are often concerned about leaving their young children, and usually hire a nanny. Being able to afford technology, and have a busy schedule means they will always need a babysitter in the most flexible and least time consuming way by using an app like this.
Responsibility is an important thing when it comes to babysitting. It all started during the 09’ summer vacation, when I wanted to babysit for some extra money to go shopping with my friends that were going to come visit me all the way from Canada. I knew that my neighbors were going out to San Francisco for about six hours, and couldn’t find a babysitter yet. So, I asked my mom if I could go next door and ask them. She said I could, and I had my first summer job.
At age 11 there really wasn’t much I could do to make money, so I did whatever it took, well almost, I tried staying away from housework. I remember washing my mother’s car for a couple of dollars but that was not enough for me to pay my way into Star Skate on a Friday night. I had to make “ends meet” as I saw it, so I decided to ask Becky for a job in her childcare center; at the time I was not really a kid-person, as a matter of fact I get annoyed by crying babies and winning toddlers but I thought it was worth a shot. I started working with Becky around 4:20 PM on Fridays, I would make sure all of the toys were picked up and in the mini plastic pool where I would sterilize them. I would scrub them with bleach and soap until my eyes started watering and...
Looking back on a childhood filled with events and memories, I find it rather difficult to pick on that leaves me with the fabled “warm and fuzzy feelings.” As the daughter of an Air Force Major, I had the pleasure of traveling across America in many moving trips. I have visited the monstrous trees of the Sequoia National Forest, stood on the edge of the Grande Canyon and have jumped on the beds at Caesar’s Palace in Lake Tahoe. However, I have discovered that when reflecting on my childhood, it is not the trips that come to mind, instead there are details from everyday doings; a deck of cards, a silver bank or an ice cream flavor.
Babyhood is the time from when you are born till you 're 18 months old. Like everybody else, I don 't remember anything at all from this time. Whatever I do know is from my parents, siblings and other family members. My mother told me I wanted to appear into this world earlier than I should have. If not for the medications that let me arrive at the proper time, I may not have been here today writing this very sentence. I was born on 19th December, 1999 in Gujarat, India. My parents tell me I was a very quite baby and never troubled them much at all. I would never start crying in the middle of the night, arousing the entire neighborhood. My older brother would often look at me, and state how huge my eyes looked. As a baby, I was very fair, and often was referred to a white egg. Everyone loved to play and touch my cheeks when I was a baby.
