I returned to school several years ago with the idea of one day owning my own business. After several years working a county government job with the local human services department I was in a position to begin planning my move toward owning the business I had dreamed of. We had operated a small drive thru coffee shop which kept my husband, who had just retired, and son busy. Through this business came the opportunity to invest in an even bigger venture, a small store front serving breakfast and lunch. This was a learning experience from the start, having no restaurant expertise I relied on my prior business knowledge and help from relatives who had worked in several restaurants. I learned how to choose vendors, order supplies and price items, …show more content…
keeping an eye on cost of goods sold. I had to interview potential employees and maintain employee files, complete schedules, payroll, workman’s compensation and all other H/R responsibilities. Another big help in my learning experience was I learned that business people love to meet each other, swap stories, and learn from each other’s experiences. Your circle of friends and acquaintances always grows when you own a business. When you build something successful, it’s a great feeling.
You had a vision, were able to execute it and can reap the benefits of saying "I did this." Being known for something is awfully enjoyable. People start referring to you as a business owner and you start being looked at in a little different way. Whatever it is you’re recognized as, it’s fun to build a brand. We, as humans, love new experiences but rarely can you experience a host of new things working for someone else. This all changes when you are running the show. Starting our own business ensured we always faced a new challenge and experienced something new. Owning your own business is a lot of work especially if you want it run a certain way, but the long hours invested in growing a business doesn't feel like work because you're actually having fun in what you do. I loved the idea that I built my own business, In marketing our brand we gave back to the community in the form of products and services, by donating to charities and especially the ability to create jobs, which is particularly important these days. One of the biggest differences in owning your own company as opposed to working for someone else is the sense of pride you establish in building something of your
own. "There is nothing like being successful through your own leadership, abilities, ideas and efforts. I want to expand my business knowledge by completing my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. I believe this will help with my future endeavors, which may again include business ownership or expand my opportunities in a management roll.
Stephen Boos has worked in the food service industry for over 30 years. He started as a bus person and subsequently trained as a chef’s apprentice. Steve’s mother believed that a college education was something that everyone should receive. She felt that a college degree was a good investment in Steve’s future. In 1976 at his mother’s insistence, Boos moved to Northeastern Ohio to attend Kent State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. After graduation, Steve began working for East Park Restaurant as a line cook. Using his education as a foundation, Steve made a point to learn everything he could about running a restaurant, from cutting meat to the bi-weekly food and beverage orders. His versatility, keen business sense, and ability to control costs resulted in Steve’s promotion to General Manager, as role he has held since 1995.
I want to be a very successful operator/owner. I want to out sell any other restaurants in my area.
The reason I want to become a business owner of a tile setting company is because ever since I was little my father owned his own tile setting business. From a young age I told my father that I wanted to take over his business one day. I was always nervous to fail at this job because of my learning disability and I don't want to disappoint him. As I grow older, I have learned new ways to compensate for my disability and I have become the more confident of my own abilities. I have also learned that my father had the same learning disability and that did not stop him from being successful. I am very much like my father and that is why being a business owner would be the best career that would suit me. The things I already know about
After I earn a degree in business, I plan to work for a company where I will gain experience until I am ready to start my own business. Even though I haven’t narrowed down what field I want my business to serve, I know I want to pursue ownership when I am ready. Being the boss matters. The difference between me owning my own business and having to work for somebody is that I will be more committed and even with long hours, I know that it will be worth it to build something of my own. Making my own decisions and taking my own risks is different from working for someone like my family does now. It will mean long, hard hours, but I will have something to be proud of instead of just living from paycheck to
I enjoy being productive. Since the age of twelve, I’ve bounced from one job to the next, seizing any offer that came my way. I have gained many skills from working at a myriad of jobs; radio DJing, working with a contractor and website designing, just to name a few. These experiences gave me the footing for my next project. I had considered starting this business for a while and after working in a multitude of fields, I finally had the confidence to make it a reality.
After my eighth birthday, my mother informed me we were moving to Seoul, Korea. I could barely spell that and I was going to be living there for three years. I was not sold on the idea, but I figured time would fly by.
We moved heavy furniture around, organized files, and answered simple questions for customers. Additionally, my dad started to notice my growing interest and talent in working with computers and used this skill for the business--I learned to use Microsoft Excel at the age of 12 and so that I could log inventory and draft work orders. By the time I was in high school, I was independently placing orders, talking to customers, and training new employees for the growing business. What I didn’t realize at the time was that growing up in my dad’s work environment gave me a business-oriented mindset, and this became most evident when I came up with the idea to create a web store to further promote my father’s
I have a great familiarity with Debbie. I know a lot of her personal story. I started by going over her medications and supplements and there was a lot of silence, so I started talking nutrition- what I was interested in, what I was looking for, explaining fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins, and Omega-3’s in fish vs. plant form. She’s always interested in what I have to say on nutrition and has a basic science background. I showed her the fake chocolate study from class. But it turned into a mini summary lecture on what I’ve been studying for the past 6 years. Not something I would do in a normal counseling session. I’d collect that info ahead of time.
On my first day as an intern for Colder Products Company (CPC), I did not know what to expect. The prospect of doing real and influential work was both exciting in the fact that it would apply to what I enjoy doing, but daunting when I realized that my work now counted for something more than a grade. Now, a little under three months in, I’ve learned some simple, yet important lessons along the way which will help you succeed on the job, and get the most out of the work you’ll be doing.
find it difficult to set up a business and make it a success. This is
In business, I learned that it isn’t as easy as I thought it would be to manage your own company. Businesses are very hard to make because a lot of money is included to start the business and management is a must. Owning your businesses means you would have to take care of many things including: employment, paying bills, making decisions and becoming a leader. Managing a business effectively and managing staff effectively is the key to the establishment and growth of the business. The key to successful management is to examine the marketplace environment and create employment and profit opportunities that deliver the potential growth and financial capability of the business. An entrepreneur is a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, usually with considerable initiative and risk. The things I learned can definitely be used in my everyday life because it’s a way of surviving. Learning about business helped me get a better understanding of how I would run my own company someday.
Hey my is Bob.I was 46 year old when I was killed. On July 19,2830 I was working on a human and see can I bring him back alive and making a new life. So one day I was getting the things I need to make the human. I was making a human by starting to put the bones together.
The information that I’ve gained from this project is that I think I have what It takes to become a business owner I don’t know what kind of business I want to own yet, maybe a bunch of restaurants because I like to cook and I have a passion for food and to make people happy but I would also like to own a bowling center because I have experience working in the bowling industry for 6 years now and I’m learning more and more everyday I’m at work. The negative is that I need to take more risks I’m more of a go with the flow kind of guy and not much of a risk taker but according to my research high risk equal high reward with profit. My reaction to this is I’m very excited to get through college and learn all there is about business.
I was always taught that if I ever want to own my own business that I needed to be dedicated to my business, skills I have that will help yours truly and love doing. I have thought about what business I want to start for a long time then it came to myself. I want to create a business that I can expand so it can grow into my vision. “See things in the present, even if they are in the future.” Said by Larry Ellison, Oracle co-founder. I continue planning details ahead so that I know where I’m going to proceed. My business will be a limit liability company called “True Love.”
We learned a lot of things in this course, but I think the most important lesson I learned is that it’s not easy to be an entrepreneur. I was surprised to hear in the first class that 80% of startups fail, but after reading The Art of Start and E-myth Revisited I understood why this happens more often than one might expects. Some people start their own businesses for the wrong reason and some start with wrong mindset. I’ve always thought that if someone has a brilliant business idea and hardworking they will succeed and grow their business. However, now I know that there are many things to consider before starting any business. In fact, there are many strategies that an entrepreneur could follow to achieve success, such as know your customers, work “on” the business, and how
