I have been studying Jazz for eight weeks. It was a really great experience and I extremely enjoy also gain a lot via those courses. By the way, it was my first dancing class in Drexel, I am very happy to take part in this class also relaxing in each class.
My friend Du and I always go to gym, and sometimes after doing exercise, we started to practice the movements we studied and some techniques that professor emphasis in class. We tried to recall the actions and dance over and over again, I know it was difficult to dance like the professor does, but we try our best and to guide each other. In addition, we watch the Dirty Dancing Show and got know what the professional dancer looks like.
During the class, the teacher helps me a lot, whether
I am a dancer myself so I am interested in learning how to transform from the student
Mel is in a band with his friends. They have had it since they were little kids. As he grew up his talent unleashed and now he wants to get better. There is an all-city jazz band that he can join. If he joins he will have to leave his friends band. The question is which one will he choose talent or loyalty.
During my first semester of college I was enrolled in a freshman English class. I began to notice college was nothing like high school. In high school I could wait till last minute to complete an essay and still get an A on the paper with little to no effort. When my first college essay was due I waited till the day before to finally sit down and start writing my paper. I turned my paper in with confidence thinking I was going to get an A. We received our papers back two days later; I was stud to see I had gotten a low C on my paper.
What I didlike about jazz dance, is how free it is. It really gives you the opportunity to express yourself. Even the guy who came in to instruct us wastelling everyone to perform the moves in your own style. Since we didnt really have any jazz music, Ifound it hard to keep rhythm.
Dancing is a tremendously difficult task. That is why all dancers must have a mind mentally
I had to teach myself. I remember clearing out my room for space and dancing along with a movie in front of my closet mirror. I also recall jotting down notes and steps as I watched people dance on television. Back in sixth grade, my family formed a dancing group and signed up for a Disney Channel dance contest. It was a new experience, having the courage to post the video online, making it public. Dancing with others creates many wonderful memories. I am able to make people laugh and smile, while also feeling happy and alive. I enjoy that feeling when a good song plays, and you can’t help but move your feet, then it leads to you breaking out and letting loose. I love how I am able to manipulate other choreography and add my own style to it. A simple movement can spark something big. From a personal experience, when I do a small jump of joy my baby sister loves it, she then starts to dance. Not only does it make me happy, she’s happy
It has been three years ago, since that fun trip. The trip filled with excitement, pride, and joy. I was in 7th grade, and only 13 years old (Or 12). I was in the middle school band, one of the most fun class in my year. At the start of the year of my first year in middle school, I disliked band, because I thought it was just going to waste my time with my other classes, and drawings, and not to mention, that we had to buy a new reed, and I disliked wasting money, but when I learning the pros of the band, I started to get more used to it.
I feel more than honored to have the opportunity to participate in The Ailey School’s 6 week summer intensive. Over the course of those weeks, I want to work on consistency in my dancing. Since being enrolled at Towson, I have always approached class with a clean slate open to new discoveries. While this has given me a chance to explore my body and see what works for me, I find myself having a completely different class every day. My new perspective is to approach class with the intent to perform better than the day before. Taking the good from the previous class and applying it to the current class. Every class will still be different, but in a positive way. In addition, I know that in the past, I have had challenges
I chose this course because Jazz music and Hip-hop are the two types of music I grew up on, my parents raised me around the world of Jazz, from Kenny G to James Brown to Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, these two types of music were huge influences. Going into this observation I saw exactly what I predicted, a huge class consisting about 30 students with exactly one instructor with the hopes a T.A. being in the room, like the dance class I took in highschool. The students enrolled in this course were of all majors and were enrolled to earn their GE credits. For most the class, students danced to several songs that were played by the instructor. While observing, I noticed that all the students were at different levels of dance from each other, some students had trouble keeping up with the routines while others were moving at the pace of the instructor. The music in this course was energizing and loud and was the one thing I really enjoyed about this observation, the movements in the routines danced consisted high amounts of percussive and lyrical movements and used just about every part in the human body. What I really disliked about this observation was the size of the room, in contrast to the rehearsal, the room where this class was being held was relatively small and with all the students in the class it really made it difficult to find a spot to observe without getting in the way of
While I did have some previous experience with the technical side of dance due to my history of figure skating, I don’t think I was able to master my body in such a way that I did without thinking. My brain seems to go into overtime to keep up, then, once I seem to have mastered it, I look at my partner and lose my train of thought. “I need to stop looking at what my partner is doing and focus on myself”, this note kept popping up now and again each time I felt like I had especially flubbed up on a sequence. I’m thinking that, with more discipline and classes I will be able to improve. I think that, if I want to get better at this particular style of dance, that I should either take the second class or retake this
One day, there was a girl named Kyla, who lived in Michigan, was walking to her band class. She has band class every monday, wednesday, and friday, and kyla adored it. She loved the sounds of all of the instruments together. When she arrived she saw a piece of paper on the door that said, “WANT A FREE SCHOLARSHIP TO COLLEGE FOR BAND? AUDITION FOR IT PLAYING THE SONG WYNDHAM MARCH AT YOUR LOCAL BAND CLASS AT 5:00 PM ON SATURDAY.” Kyla thought this was a perfect opportunity for her life. As she walked into the band room she started practicing until the band director started directing. A Girl named Skylar noticed was song she was playing, and she wasn’t pleased about it either.
One thing I found helpful was actually through the videos we watched online. They completely opened my mind up to just movement and new ways of movement. Some of the videos used props or not but created pathways and dynamics that we don’t see through day to day movement. Sometimes I just dance around for fun and it’s awesome to create new pieces or have ideas that I saw from class or over the videos we watch. It’s fun to be at my dance club practices and relate them to this
Being accepted and transferring to the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science is probably the biggest event that has happened in my life so far. I still remember the excitement and nervousness I felt when my grandmother informed me that I had gotten a large envelope from the school. The anxiety didn’t cease until I was able to see and open the giant, white package for myself. This was the letter that would change my life for what I knew would be the better. It took a lot of time and effort to apply and being accepted was such a great accomplishment. Countless hours spent writing and reviewing essays, days taken out of my weekends to travel to the campus for interviews, tests, and orientations, and weeks dedicated to my work sample that
Our class is a structured way to learn and practice dance steps. Before long you will find improvements in your ability to dance, to balance, to stay on beat, and you will gain confidence in turning, spinning, twirling and basically “rocking it”, overcome the notion of having “two left feet” have fun watching others, and basically, have a venue and an outlet in which to practice dancing whether you have a partner or not.
Dance instruction is enhanced when instructors draw from a variety of techniques to assist in teaching motor dance skills. A motor skill is defined as an activity or task that requires voluntary head, body or limb movement to reach a specific purpose or goal (Magill, 2006, p.3) The discipline of motor learning focuses on the acquisition of motor skills and/or the improvement of learned or highly experienced motor skills, and involves principles that can be implemented by instructors to aid in skill acquisition. Instructors using motor learning principles will enable dancers to reach their full potential in learning and developing dance skills leading to more effective performance on the stage and off. The following is a two-part series, summarizing
