When I transitioned into 7th grade, I was very clueless when it came to grammar and sophisticated writing techniques; little did I know how to use commas, semicolons, and transition words in a sentence. Throughout the year, not only did my grammar enhance, but also my sentence structure matured vastly. Reading my papers from the beginning of the year to the end of the year, I knew that my writing has improved.
I chose my Discussion Director book club role as something old because of the mediocre sentences, the disability to handle grammar accurately, and an innumerable amount of repetitive words in one essay. At the starting point of the 7th grade, my vocabulary was repeated at the point where the paper was almost full with pencil markings
crossing out all the additional words. When the teacher returned any paper, I was ashamed of my writing. During 7th grade, I would work diligently to get rid of my disgraceful habit. Furthermore, I didn’t know how to form a sentence with semicolons, commas, or transition words. Even though I inherited the skills to use them correctly in 6th grade, I couldn’t retain it. This paper definitely describes how I wrote at the start, and I was never proud of it. Because of my lack of maturity, I appointed my Teen Angst paper to express what I can write now. This article included a variety of power words and the sentence structure upgraded tremendously. This paper presents that I have the understanding to take resources from a book or an article and reword it into my own words. Towards the end of the year, I was aware of how many times I wrote any word, and I wouldn’t have to achieve a countless amount of rewrites for just one paper. Finally, I mastered the use of grammar. While writing my Eulogy, I found it to be very enjoyable. This essay is sophisticated, and I am very proud of my outgoing sentence structure. It took me a while to get to the point where I am writing like I am now. Not only does this have a list of refined words but also it contains aspects of my life put into a smooth sentence. Every time I read this piece of writing, I start laughing because of the whimsical memories I placed into it. On the first day we went to the computer lab to start this article, I was already halfway through because of how amusing writing this essay was. When I was introduced to a whole other experience with writing, I was insecure about my own technique. Mostly everyone was writing with sophistication while I was writing fragments and run-on sentences. For my personal choice, I prefer my Found Poem because I have never done this type of writing before in the past, and this piece is very unique compared to all of my other papers. To begin with,
My development as a writer has flourished throughout this semester. The first week of this fall semester started out with writing responses from our readings in the textbook. Looking back through and analyzing my reading responses at the semester to now; I noticed a substantial improvement in not only my grammar skills, but also my summarizing, and in-depth studying of writing adeptness. Another way I have progressed this semester is the vocabulary of my writing has significantly improved and become more scholarly. Another advancement I noticed was that the content of my work has matured, along with my organizational adeptness.
When I was first accepted into the AP Language & Composition course, I felt overwhelmed. I had always received above average grades in all subject areas, but because this was an AP course I was unsure if my English skills were up to par. During the summer, my anxiety about the course increased. I began to feel that my writing skills were inferior to the skills of my peers’. Before this course, I did not have a developed writing voice or style. I had little knowledge of what phrases or words to avoid using in writing. I started to wonder if I truly belonged in an AP course. After having completed this course, I have a better grasp of the English language and have acquired skills that have improved my writing.
I realized how important language and grammar are, and that I needed to improve upon these skills before attempting to move forward on my career path. Currently, I am studying to become an elementary and special education teacher. Who am I to teach our youth grammar, when even I struggle with it? Based on this question was why I certainly pushed myself throughout the semester to continuously strengthen my work submitted. Additionally, having proper grammar is useful for any career field. Throughout the semester i only learned few new things but i did improve and solidify my skill of writing. Before my first year of college my skills have always undermined by other high school english teachers and with that came disappointing grades. I am writing this paper as a reflection of the semester and the progress i have made as a writer. I now understand many things that my high school teachers have done a poor job demonstrating and i am grateful that i decided to take my own route in my education instead of their syllabus. I entered the semester with anxiety that i would perform as i did before but i clearly outdid my own expectations by receiving top grades on my essays.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
During the first session with the client we went over the consent form and I asked them if there were any questions about it, which they had only one to make sure that it was not being show to the entire class, once answered they signed the form. I think that when I make my own form I will have a better understanding of how to explain the reason behind it and also better explain what it is form. After the form was signed I conducted and interview with the client.
My teacher interview was with Jessica Mays/Richie. Jessica is fresh out of the program from Chico State University. For a first year teacher she is doing really well, and I’m surprised at how well her kindergarten class is. Just being in her class as a volunteer I have learned so much about what its like to be a teacher. Instead of looking into experience, because she doesn’t have much yet, she told me things that she learned from being a new teacher. I believe that this will help me through the program and becoming a future teacher.
When I was a young child I suffered from dyslexia. During my first few years of elementary school reading and writing seemed unattainable. I would write letters and numbers backwards especially s, 3, and e. I couldn’t even spell my whole name correctly and to this day I still don’t know my right hand from my left hand unless I am holding my pencil. In first grade when we broke into smaller groups for reading based on our reading level I felt so devastated and degraded to be put in the lowest level group, I recall the short books we read were half actual words and half pictures so if it said “the cat” for example it would have the word the and a tiny picture of a cat. I felt extremely envious to see so many kids my age who were light years beyond me with reading and writing. Despite my struggles I kept reading, I so desperately desired to read a book by myself without help. As I continued to read with the help of my teachers and my grandparents. I slowly continued to improve, and was able to read increasingly difficult books.
...d myself having in high school. I still tend to be a little too wordy at times, I misplace commas, and I still forget how to properly cite my research sources every now and them. I think I have become a little more meticulous about looking over my papers, however. I make fewer careless mistakes and take more time writing my papers than I did in high school. My points of view are clearer, and I have not been using commas incorrectly quite as often. I hope to continue to improve in the next few years of college as well. I haven?t received an ?A? on a paper yet, so my goal for the next few years of college is to eventually be able to consistently produce papers worthy of ?As.? Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school… right? Well I had to go to summer school, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Everything was going fine, I had a job after summer school, and that was going fine as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up blood. My father usually doesn’t make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn’t feel good.
During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really understood the significance of MAP. For this reason, my writing lacked clarity, organization, and my writings appeared less focused on the topics. As a result my research papers and essays did not flow as smoothly from one passage to the next. Furthermore, I was unaccustomed with the precise procedures used when writing an essay. For instance, my previous classes before college, although requiring a reference page, did not require me to include proper citations in my writings. After evaluating the quality of my writing toward the end of the semester, I recognized vast improvements in several areas of my writing. By concentrating on the beginning stages of my writings, I could distinguish ahead of time my audience and my message. As a result, my essays are clear, and I remain on topic. In addition to that using transition phrases efficiently also helps my writing to flow smoothly. The proper use of transitions makes my writings easy to follow from one topic to the next. Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
As I look back on my schooling I can’t believe how many papers I’ve written throughout my life. Naturally as I’ve grown up, my writing has developed from learning how to write sentences all the way up to the pages of essays that consist of deeper criteria. I know for a fact that I’m a better writer now than I was before. College writing is more challenging and I’ve had to learn how to adjust to it.
Many of my fellow classmates have had previews experience with teaching in foreign countries and within the United States. That was not the case with me, I had never taught before and I had limited experience when it comes to teaching. At first I have to admit that I was nervous and scared about teaching, especially because I have a foreign accent. I thought that my foreign accent was going to be an impediment and that my tutee would not understand my teaching. Whenever you first start teaching or tutoring there are many things that might go into someone’s head but things were not as I thought they were going to be.
Looking back to the beginning of 7th grade English class I now realized of all the great things I have accomplished this year for English class. I am proud of how hard I worked this year and how my English has gotten better. I am proud to have been part of Ms D's English class and she is a phenomenal teacher. I think that one day I will be able to work as a English teacher like Ms D or I will become a journalist. Although I must say that when I first entered English class I had so many different thoughts. The first thought was about the teacher. I didn?t know if I would have been able to get along with Ms. D because she had looked like a professional person in which doesn?t play around. I was nervous but I knew I would have to try my best to get along with her. When class began I saw how Ms D loved to make her students write essays and that is what I knew I was good at. I saw how she was organized and she wasn?t strict nor she wasn?t mean. Ms. D was actually pretty great and funny. When class had first began I felt strong about my reading because my father used to make me read the newspaper about the age of 5 years old and at home I would have to speak loudly and clearly in front of her or else the things in which I wanted wouldn?t be granted in front of me. I knew that I wasn?t perfect but I knew that I would have to work on my vocabulary because in my country we usually didn?t speak proper English and I knew that the way that you talk is the way you would normally read and it?s the way you would write.
