One goal that I have clearly established is to learn Spanish properly. I have always struggled with learning languages, but I also never put special effort into improving my abilities until recently. More recently I have been attempting to take more steps that would lead me to be more likely to learn Spanish. The first step I took was paying more attention in class. I work hard when I am working, but I get distracted fairly easily. I decided to work at overcoming that as to make myself more likely to succeed in the classroom. Secondly, I had a very bad habit of not doing my homework in my language classes. Using just those two steps I was able to greatly improve my scores and abilities in my Spanish class. Therefore, creating goals helps establish what direction I am trying to go in, and also allows me to figure out how to solve a problem. Another example is if I fail a test, I will try to examine the errors within my work; however, I will then create a goal for myself to make sure I do better on the test the next time. Finding the errors and creating goals to fix the errors makes me an independent learner. I am taking the charge that I want to do better; therefore, I am going to create a goal that helps me succeed. By fixing the errors, I then challenge myself, inside and outside the classroom.
Although, I have been a good student at school, I always have struggles doing my homework like any other student. Sometimes, it is difficult to me to understand my assignments; however, I always try to obtain a knowledge from my courses. In this case English 111, like any other course left a mark on my academic and personal life.
My achievement of becoming literate in both English and Spanish, after overcoming a myriad of obstacles distinguishes my literacy history. Writing was one of the things I didn’t like to do as a child. I always thought writing was a waste of time and that I wasn’t going to need it in life. Even though I didn’t invest much time writing, I was one of the best writers in all my classes, probably because I was very dedicated in the other subjects and I loved reading adventure books. The air hung around them, tensed and quiet. The fragility of her emotion was threatening to shatter. It is as if that time stood still for her. She fingered the brim of her notebook, nervously and took notice of the cup of coffee on her side. One goal is I want to see what I am capable of. I have a terrible habit where I doubt myself, and that doubt sometimes leads me missing out on life changing opportunities. There’s a saying that goes, “Doubt kills more dreams than future ever will” which really emphasizes how doubt is what makes us runs away from our hopes, goals, and dreams. It is something that makes us terribly afraid to try something new or make an effort with things. However, I truly want to not run away from that doubt, but to be able to overcome it. Even though I may be doubtful at times, I am full of determination to pursue excellence and strive to do my best in everything. For example, I want to see how great I can make my education be in high school. I have a strong connection and commitment when it comes to learning because it’s always a joy and experience when it comes to knowing new things. I believe that knowledge is one great element in life where it leads to the highest success, and it can only be acquired one way through diligence and effort. When it comes to my education, I make sure to not take it for granted and to never give up, even if it may feel brutal at times. In my opinion, I care what I learn and put towards my education rather than the grade given since with all the effort and work I put towards to what I am told, the grade follows. However, that does not mean that I am careless about my grades. I greatly cherish school and can be an example towards others at Rocky Mountain when it comes to setting academic goals and aspiring all the knowledge I want in my education. I want to influence others to make an effort when it comes to their education and see what they’re capable of. That’s why whenever I look at teachers, I see that they are sharing the gift of new traits for our education, for our futures in life. When I went to bed last night unusual thoughts and inquiries vexed my mind. My language teacher telling the class the tale of Babel kept approaching on my mind. It was astonishing how people had started to build a tower to challenge god therefore god cursed men and then began different languages in the world.
Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school… right? Well I had to go to summer school, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Everything was going fine, I had a job after summer school, and that was going fine as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up blood. My father usually doesn’t make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn’t feel good.
I made it a priority to expand my Spanish vocabulary by reading books and communicating with my family in Spanish more often. I was ecstatic in going back to school because I knew that they had a Spanish elective that was mandatory for all kids going to elementary school. In taking the class, I felt that it was too easy, we were learning the alphabets and words that infants would know. My parents took me to the library and we checked out books that were only in Spanish. When I was a child my dad, and my grandparents taught me how to speak Spanish before I could learn how to speak English. As I continued to learn more and more words, Spanish became my first language, I spoke it fluently, and English came second. My first goal, which is reaching my AR goal, can be accomplished by reading more. By reading everyday, I can finish books faster and absorb the details more effectively which will lead to passing my tests. I understand the concern about my current degree plan, focused the BAAS.ED, in Secondary Education, and it will require 51 hours to complete. You said 14 additional hours were necessary in order to complete a degree where I can instruct Spanish courses. I would like to develop a plan where I follow the guidelines within the current plan, but will easily transition to an Educator in Spanish, with the 14 hours that we previously discussed. I spoke with Financial Aid and they told me I could stay within the maximum time frame, as I pursue this plan. My second goal was to help my co-workers cleaning a room without having to ask questions about the cleaning procedures My second goal was successfully completed by visually learning and writing down the procedures of how to clean the rooms. This was a harder goal to complete, while working along side my co-workers it was hard to communicate, many spoke little to no English so it became a challenge when looking for clarification., I relied mostly on visually watching what they did to lean myself. then I would write down what in saw in my notebook to remember the correct procedures.
