A significant educational opportunity that I took advantage of was an internship opportunity I landed last year. My school is one of the only schools in San Diego County that offers the internship program as a high school student. I used this as my chance to see what it was like to be a professional in the real world. I landed an internship at a large real estate company based out of Los Angeles. I worked under a full time real estate agent for about 8 weeks and learned about his trade. I learned so much about of the housing market works, how to create business relationships with customers, and how to function in an office setting. Sadly, this internship showed me problems with being a realtor and made me realize that this was not the right
...ing of myself and open my eyes to an environment where I may be in just couple of year. Ultimately, this experience has shown me which direction I should take after I graduate in June. I know for sure that even though this kind of filed has lot of room to move up and also make tons of money, this is not something that I would be satisfied with as my career. I would like to go into the automotive industry and search what they have to offer me.
A pre-practicum internship can be an extremely beneficial off campus endeavor that one can experience prior to the actual internship. The central rationale of pre-practicum is to add meaning to the educational undertakings of the student. Consequently, it facilitates tangible practices that embolden the association of theory and method. Pre-practicum affords an experiential gathering opportunity for students to relate ideas, information, and services gained in real situations to classroom discussion. It also allows students to assess the personal suitability of a prospective career choice and to develop an awareness of community services, economic underpinnings,
Maybe it’s the fact that I tend to stay in my room all weekend, which leads to people thinking I’m studying when in reality I am probably binge watching a TV show or maybe it’s my glasses, but most people who don’t know me too well assume that I am smart. Now that is a great thing for me because I don’t have to try as hard to impress them, but I end up finding myself in a bit of a problem. The problem is that everyone thinks I enjoy admiring school textbooks. But the truth is I’m usually admiring my Justin Bieber poster on my bedroom wall. Ever since I was in sixth grade I’ve been a huge fan of Bieber. His music always brought a feeling of calmness and back in the day his “never say never” motto, was what I lived by. I might still be living by that motto because I’ve decided to write this essay
For instance, learning how a professional office runs on a daily basis. I worked in the main administrative offices, meaning I was surrounded by the day-to-day operations of the Historical Society. From helping scan documents, to assisting in event preparation, I gained valuable hands on experience that could serve me in jobs not related to history; this wasn’t solely an academic experience. Experiences like attending the morning meeting or writing business related emails will no doubt serve me well in future
Economic and demographic changes are concerned with high school dropout and academic achievement, high college incompletion rates and a achievement gaps in the labor market have caused policy makers, educators and employers to seek solutions to the education and training of students that enhance their skills to make them college and career ready. Internships are resurfacing as an educational approach that can possible bridge the gap between education and work when aligned with the values and expectations of the major key players, scholars, employers and educators, with the substantive support of policy makers.
I have learned many things from participating in my internship. Before my junior year at college, I was shy and had insecurities about my abilities to work in the accounting industry. My internship experience can be divided into three sections. First, is the practice and experience that I have obtained which helped me towards my careers goals. Secondly, is the exposure to the basic structural organization of companies. Finally, is the opportunity to participate in solving real-world problems.
This past summer I engaged in my first job, on which I was working on a fishing charter. They taught me to master new skills for not just fishing, but also great general strategies. Not only did I learn skills that are necessary anywhere I go, but
In 2012, eighty-four percent of Santa Clara University graduates who responded to a survey from the Santa Clara University School of Engineering obtained one or more internships during their undergraduate studies. Of those who responded, eighty-two percent were employed full-time after graduation earning a median salary of $62,500 (Santa Clara University). This research exhibits that internships can be an important strategy in the efforts toward job search for both students, as well as for employers looking to hire valuable employees. As defined by InternNE.com, an internship is any carefully monitored service or work experience that may be evaluated for educational credit in which an intern or student establishes learning goals and reflects on his or her learning experience in relation to achievement of the stated goals. Internships should first be examined that, when implemented at fullest potential, these opportunities can provide companies and students with a competitive edge in today’s business world. Subsequently, it can be shown that internships assist organizations and companies with temporary or seasonal project and task completion. Lastly, internships will be clarified as to how they allow students to gain valuable experience before entering the workforce. From reviewing an ample amount of research, internships are beneficial and advantageous to the success of a young student, as well as companies.
My internship though brief has taught me a lot about time management and people skills. It is during the internship that i realized how much i love to work with data and
Many individuals struggle to find jobs after finishing their degree. With many job only considering applicants with prior experience, students are faced with a difficult situation. The solution for many is to complete an internship. Completing an internship is a task that some college students have completed or will encounter while completing credits towards their degree. Internships are a great experience for students because it can “help show them that the careers they were leaning toward were not what they wanted.”
A barrier that I am currently facing is the barrier of procrastination, in which is where oneself is avoiding a task that needs to be accomplished or carrying out less urgent tasks instead of more urgent ones, thus putting off impending tasks to a later time. Sometimes, procrastination takes place until the "last minute" before a deadline. It is said that procrastination is because someone has the feelings of guilt, inadequacy, depression and self-doubt that makes them unable to complete a task. The reason I sometimes procrastinate is because sometimes I see the task as unimportant until the last minute or until the day of a deadline, or I get distracted by the items around me.
I started as an absolute beginner and when I learned more about the job I started thoroughly enjoying it. The work was aimed at identifying threats and assessing the damage they were likely to cause, tagging and eliminating them. To execute my job responsibilities well, I started learning fundamentals of Linux. Within a week, I developed a strong grasp on the basic commands that could be used on the terminal. I started using another Linux distribution, Kali Linux. Thus, I learned a lot about cyber security and ethical hacking. Deeply intrigued with these fields, I undertook in-depth research on them. The internship was useful to learn how real
The challenge I took was exercising twenty minutes every day but it was more like forty minutes. When I learned about the list of challenges we could do I thought the best would be exercising so I could get more healthy and I also thought that a good way to do that would be cross country because then I would be exercising and meeting new people. My first run in cross country was at Niles West and then straight down the street. I was not alone though. The rest of the freshman cross country team was there ready to practice. One of my friends who is doing cross country, Matt, said, “You’re gonna regret joining.” I thought that he was just acting lazy or just making a joke but I knew what he meant later on. When we started the run outside of Niles
My internship experience this semester was interesting. I interned at ESH/MESH with Bridgeway. My Supervisor was Emilie Banz. I didn’t do much but I did learn a lot from this experience. I met a lot of great people and watch PsyR in action. I met a couple of individuals who were really cool. My experience this semester has prepared me for the next.
A couple of friends advised me to apply for an internship with the MTA and I got accepted. This was my first job experience, and it was the best first job I could have possibly got. It gave me a lot of experience and taught me a lot about all the behind the scenes of the transportation system that I use to get around on a daily basis. It’s a great thing to have on my resume and best of all it was a paid position. I also started a small sort of business with a friend of mine that made me some good money heading into college. Along with the money, it also taught me a lot. I learned how to get a point across to someone and communicating with people better. I also found out about almost every scam people try to play in the business side of things. I never had my eyes on any of this stuff and never really wanted to do it but it was an opportunity that passed by me and I took advantage of
