Faisal N Aldossary Mr. Williams GEN-140 Personal Leadership Philosophy My vision is to lead a family into a very successfully integrated life with the community and to help others in the community as an occupational safety officer. In order to best serve the community and my family as their servant-leader, I need to implement several areas of leadership development. First of all, I must have a good guide for decision-making. Taking in mind my vision, my decision-making should be most importantly focused on safety. All my decisions should take the physical safety of my family and co-workers into account. As an occupational safety officer, it is my responsibility to keep the company employees safe, as well as my family. I believe that is the most important aspect of my decision-making. Servant leadership is the most important part of my leadership philosophy. It encompasses all of the other parts. My vision is to serve my family and people in the community. My decision-making philosophy is focused on servant leadership because I would be serving their interest of being safe. One of the most important aspects of being a servant leader is to be a good listener and understand …show more content…
A good leader should know how to deal with conflict. My philosophy regarding conflict resolution is to focus on communication. I think almost all problems can be solved. The best way is to think about possible solutions and to calculate the benefits and costs of each solution. That is my view about conflict resolution, keeping in mind the goals of the community and my followers. Change could be related to conflict. Sometimes a leader has to change a situation and guide followers to make the change or to change themselves. That can be very difficult. My philosophy about change is to really believe in the reason for the change and to motivate others about it. If they can see and understand why the change is so important, they can get on board
They acknowledge people’s perspectives, and give them the support needed to meet their goals. Servant leaders involve members when decisions are appropriate helping build a stronger commitment within the team. Strong qualities of servant leadership are trust, appreciation for others, and empowerment. Honesty and integrity form the moral foundation of effective leadership through the four values of truth telling, promise
...ion and decision is going to be black and white. When things do not seem clear it is important to be flexible. In times of change not everything is going to be clear cut. The leader needs to work with the team to keep open communication so everybody can be on the same page and work through the hard times together.
Primary service is the key. Many view this as a contradiction because the leader is leading and serving. How can a person do both? Good servant leaders are good listeners. The communication between the leader and the follower being served allows the leader to listen to the follower first, in order to understand what the other person has to say and to understand their needs. These leaders practice empathy as well. Understanding what the follower is facing or feeling is comforting to the follower because it validates their importance to another person. The ability to heal a person through care and the concern for a person’s well being is another quality of a servant leader. These are only a few of the characteristics that generate a strong servant leader. Mother Teresa said, “The miracle is not that we do this work, but that we are happy to do it.” Her words describe exactly what servant leaders do. Servant leaders serve others willingly because they find joy and pleasure in doing so. The outcome of serving others in this manner is growth and social impacts for a greater good. When there is an improvement in self-actualization, followers improve in their goal reaching or task completion by understanding their full potential to do
The word leadership can mean many things if you were to ask individual people to define it. Some may say, “Oh that’s the person in charge”, others may argue that leadership is a “position of power”. I define leadership as the person that others look to in times of crisis and need that they aspire to follow. A leader is always looking for meaningful ways to take care of those around them, sometimes with discipline and others with a calm voice of reason. Throughout my career I have had many different levels of leadership from junior people that would lend a helping hand to senior leaders that always had my back and the answers to tough questions. The most influential person in my career was a First Class Petty Officer when I was fresh out of school and new to the ship. I had never been to sea and was excited to learn. The next three years were some of the best years of my career. Each day we would do nearly everything together when it came to our equipment, we would troubleshoot complex equipment problems sometimes late
Servant leaders are servants first, have a genuine want to serve others, and ultimately make a conscious decision to lead others (Greenleaf, Senge, Covey, & Spears, 2002)Click and drag to move. Servant leadership is based upon twelve unique principles that ultimately improve the wellbeing of the followers and the community (Greenleaf et al., 2002)Click and drag to move. Many great leaders utilize a multitude of these principles to help motivate, influence, and lead others. Individuals that exhibit servant leadership qualities, such as Martin Luther King, Jr., possess skills and qualities that help motivate others and driven by a sense of a higher calling (Northouse, 2016)Click and drag to move.
Everything in leadership will be determined by the competency of the leader. John C Maxwell is credited with saying “everything rises and falls on leadership. The leaders are often the ones making the decisions influencing success or failure. When I think of competency, I believe it is important to acknowledge the difference between competency and confidence. Confidence is the belief that I can lead; competence requires results of successful leadership. Confidence is the place people get the idea a person is a “good guy.” Being a good guy or even being confident is not a qualification of competency; it merely means one has the right to have dinner. Being a good guy allows
Servant leadership is both a leadership philosophy and set of leadership practices. Traditional leadership generally involves the
The principles of leadership and management are helps to understand the management style and make the effective decision. An effective decision helps to gain the success of an organization. Lots of way to manage and collect information/question for leadership and management which are describing in the below:
These principles apply to my lifestyle in so many ways. The first three principles of servant leadership apply to my approach on how I interact with people every day. I listen to everyone I mentor or even come in contact to, because you never know what could be happening in someone’s life that could be affecting their demeanor. In turn with listening, I try to empathize with everyone on my team or in my group. Their intentions may not always shine through what has happened but to assume the worst would be the worst of me. After I understand everyone I am leading I try to soothe them individually, so that the renewed person they become will be as powerful as possible. Persuasion and conceptualization are two concepts that I hold very closely to my heart. I am a true dreamer and I wish to persuade everyone I mentor to dream to because dreams are only dreams because no one believes enough to strive for it. I believe that the past is a lesson, the present is being taught, and the future is just a lesson to be learned, so every moment should be seen as an opportunity to seize and learn from. Finally, every person has the innate ability to grow into the most important piece to a successful
Leadership is not defined by position. Leadership is an extraordinary responsibility given only to those willing to exude selflessness, decisiveness, and wisdom. CSM William R. Hambrick, Jr is an accomplished leader that embodies the values, attributes, and competencies that I aspire to convey to my subordinates. The impact that CSM Hambrick has had on my career and leadership philosophy is immeasurable. His far-reaching legacy is one of confidence, sound judgment, and empathy.
On projects I have taken the lead on, I have always valued input from other employees. This assumes the fact that the employee is competent in their area, and have a willingness to share ideas with management. I encourage active participation, and I am often surprised at some of the answers that have come out of collaborative meetings. When employees feel at ease to share their ideas, genuinely good things
Self-leadership is a concept that can be addressed in regards to the degree of which the processes that influence the self are characterized by responsibility, authenticity, and the increase of capacity. The importance and significance of higher-level standards is encompassed through authenticity (e.g., pondering the why, what, and how of self-influence). Corporate social responsibility shares the commonly understood elements of self-responsibility. Capacity is the growth and expansions of ones self-leadership potential. This can enhance results and create authentic as well as responsible ends (Manz, 2015).
When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
There are a few different types of well known leadership styles, authoritarian, delegative, and democratic. To assess my leadership style I used two online tests to help me determine my style. I felt the results were accurate and I fall into a democratic style/participative style. If I am leading I prefer to include the group and get their feedback on solving issues. However, I still make the final decision after listening to the thoughts of the group on a particular topic. This is considered to be a positive style of leadership that is inspiring to the group involved. The leaders decision making tends to be more accurate due to the input of other experts. (Cite)
Leadership, without doubt, is a significantly important function of management. It helps to aggrandize efficiency and to fulfil an organization’s goals. Leadership is the ability of a manager to induce the subordinates to work with confidence, determination, courage and zeal. It is also defined as ability to influence a group towards the realization of a goal. Leaders should have the capability of developing future visions, and to drive the organizational members to want to attain the visions. This paper states my points in which I duly believe, justifies the importance of an outstanding leader in any organization.
