Personal Leadership Development Plan
Leadership is the key element for engineers to become successful in their professional life. Having creative ideas and high technical skills are not enough to succeed in an engineering profession because it is difficult to convert the skills and ideas into deeds without working with talented people. Leadership traits enable engineers to mobilize people to achieve challenging goals. To have the power to influence people, engineers should create a plan to develop their leadership skills. As a result, I follow many steps to develop my personal leadership skills. Conducting self -assessment tests, and evaluating strengths and weaknesses are a key defining component to make a leader. Having a written vision

A vision is the power that moves the follower through obstacles. To improve my leadership development plan, I set a vision which is a world with sustainable buildings that contribute economic and environmental benefits for future generations. In addition, my mission is to help the designer and project managers balance between human needs and natural resources on our planets. To know oneself is to know what guides you. I value integrity and honesty in my relationships. Creativity is another core value to assist in finding smart and unique solutions for complicated problems. Respect is also an important value; to deal with people in fairness and justice is essential to satisfy them. Collaboration and working together is another value to help achieve challenging …show more content…
In fact, recognizing emotions is essential to build and keep a strong relationship with others. Empathy can be improved by trying to see things from another’s point of view and accepting their opinion. Also, being a careful listener will aid in understanding people’s messages and emotions. It would be of interest to take a course geared in learning about nonverbal behaviors and cues to help communicate empathy. Lastly, to understand better, the needs and emotions of a variety of different people, I will work on expanding the number of people I make connections with on a daily basis. Working and associating with people who have strong leadership traits will contribute to acquiring more non- technical skills to achieve my
In this life it is essential to base your work around your beliefs and to feel passionate about what you do. Then spreading your passion for your work onto others is how you grow as an individual and as a company. Which is what I felt after reading the #1 core value.
There are several core values I appreciate most. The first one that stood out is an adventure, which is defined as “new and challenging opportunities, excitement, risk”. For some people, adventure always represents tough challenges and high risk with low return. They prefer a stable job because they can earn guaranteed wages without
Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
The role of leadership has become increasing valuable for organizations to be successful. According to Huber (2014), Leadership can best be defined as method utilized to ensure that an objective is completed. There are many different types of leaderships that can be found within each organization. In this paper I will highlight an example of a specific leadership style that we come across in healthcare settings. I will review my leadership self-assessment results and discuss the impact of leadership on staff and groups.
The assignment for week four is to assess and review results from the Authentic Leadership Self Assessment Questionnaire. The ALQ was created to provide a means to assess the parameters of authentic leadership and to allow for opinion on the behaviors that encompass Authentic Leadership Style (Northouse, 2013). Basically, the questionnaire and the model allows and individual to understand how followers or people perceive leadership authenticity.
Introduction Through identification and ongoing assessment of her leadership style and ability, this leader is able to develop and understand her own strengths and limitations in order to grow and develop into a more effective leader. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of servant leadership, contingency, and path-goal styles of leadership to gain an understanding of current leadership models, identify this author’s style of leadership, and explore why leadership is important to organizations, society, and this author. A Personal Model of Leadership Servant leadership was a term that was first used by Keifner Greenleaf (1970) in his first essay, The Servant as Leader (as cited by Crippen, C., 2005). Greenleaf based his essay on his belief that a servant leader is a servant first, and explained that it would begin with the natural urge to serve and then the leader would make a conscious choice to become a leader, in doing so he makes the choice to ensure that others needs are met first (2005 ). As a servant leader develops he should always keep aware of those who he serves and strive to ensure that they are becoming healthier, wiser, freer, have an increase in autonomy, and become more like servants themselves (2005).
Firstly, I will begin by identifying my core values. These values can be put into two separate groups. Firstly, there are instrumental values: courageousness, intellectualism, and helpfulness. When considering the myriad of ideals, many others were eliminated
My vision is to have a plan for where my life is heading, to be able to adapt to the inevitable changes that arise, and keep my values in tact that help me to live a meaningful and valued life.
My biggest personal leadership failure occurred earlier this year when I worked at Einstein Bros Bagels at Coffman Union. I stayed there from January until April making and serving bagels to customers. However, I had the morning shift, the busiest period of the day. Long lines would form every time I was there, and sometimes I couldn’t catch up. One day in April, my co-worker, a veteran making bagels, was absent, and someone who didn’t have as much experience replaced her. What followed was a mess. My team chemistry with the replacement was dreadful, and a ton of people had to wait a while for their orders. My manager saw the incident, and after my shift was over, he gave me the option of leaving my job. I accepted, but my self-confidence was in a state that was beyond repair. It was one of the first times that I felt I let others down with my work performance. I learned that I shouldn’t expect to be great at everything and that I should analyze my weaknesses before taking on something challenging.
Leaders will no matter what have an influence on our world. They have missions, dreams and ambition, and with these things they are bound to go far. For leaders, what makes these dreams come true is having strong qualities such as leadership practices, values and strengths. If developed and learned how to use correctly, these are what take leaders to the next level and accomplish great things. In the following paper I will talk about leadership in our ever-changing world, explore my leadership practices, values and strengths as well as elaborate on the goals I have made to challenge myself as a leader.
The personal leadership development plan is to capture the self-awareness of an individual. People in general have a difficult time trying to figure out who they are and how they view themselves plus how others may see them. This plan will touch on my personal strengths, areas of improvement, and also identify me as a person more in-depth. The Personal Profile System and the Team Dimensions Profile will be used to provide an understanding.
2. I will learn more about state geography. I will learn more about the towns and regions of Oklahoma.

Some people were born to be great leaders and some were born to be great learners. I ask myself this question, “How was I created?” Was I born a leader or was I molded to lead. As I explain my philosophy on how I want to lead, I will first dive into my past to recognize and pin point my creator. October 27th 2004 I raise my right hand in order to serve and protect the United State against all enemies, foreign and domestic. At this moment in my young personal leadership journey, I get my first glimpse of a leadership style, “shut up and listen.”
