Leadership is an integral part of a productive society. There are leaders everywhere, for nearly anything and everything. Because there is so much breadth and depth to leadership, it is nearly impossible to pin it down as one thing. Put simply, leadership is a “relational and ethical process of people together attempting to accomplish positive change,” (Komives, 2013, p. 33). However, true leadership goes so much farther than any definition it can be given; there are countless goals, styles, strengths, and even weaknesses. MY personal view of leadership is perfectly summarized by Katie Christy, the young CEO of Activate Your Talent:
Leadership is the ability to not only understand and utilize your innate talents, but to also effectively leverage

For me, I hope to achieve greatness by continuing with UBWA, and by doing my absolute best, attain a leadership role. I hope to one day be able to use the leadership skills I learn to bring young, ambitious women with a passion for business closer together at Ohio State. Furthering my interests in business, I hope to become a member of the co-ed business fraternity, Phi Chi Theta. I attended many of their events and informational sessions this fall, and I fell in love with their mission. I hope to one day be a representative of their professionalism and devotion, not only on campus, but as a future alumni. A more immediate goal of mine is to become more involved with residence life within my dorm. Unfortunately, due to late classes, I was unable to become a council member within Drackett Tower, as I had originally hoped. This, however, hasn’t stopped me from being interested in how to get involved! Over the next few weeks I hope to attend more of the general body meetings within my residence hall, to become a more active and leading member within my community. I want to be able to communicate with others that live around me to create ideas for service, fun, and overall community building. Being involved, is not only important to my values, but it is even recommended by professionals to improve a student’s performance in school. Even the Ohio State website states, “In addition to building lasting friendships, student organizations provide many benefits including serving as a medium for academic discourse, personal growth, leadership development, intercultural understanding and community service,” (Student Organizations, 2016). However, I hope to go beyond basic involvement. In the coming years, I hope to use my leadership skills to more deeply immerse myself within the Ohio State community; I want to truly leave a Buckeye’s
Leadership is about taking personal and social responsibility for working with others to achieve common goals.
Leadership can be defined as the ability of a superior to influence the behavior of a minor or group and persuade them to follow a particular course of action. A leader sets a course of action and ensures that everyone follows the action. Leading can apply to leading oneself, other individuals, groups, organizations and societies. The nature of how leading is done depends on the framework of the situation, one's point of view, and on the nature and needs of those involved. While leadership is learned, the skills and knowledge processed by the leader are influenced by their traits, such as beliefs, values, ethics, and most importantly character.
How do you define leadership? To me, leadership is leading a person, persons, or an organization; usually done with selflessness and the desire to achieve. Being a leader should be an honor and it should be something that somebody should have to earn. Throughout Animal Farm, by George Orwell, the qualities for leadership were both shown, and not shown, by Napoleon and Snowball. Both Snowball and Napoleon displayed some pros and cons of their leadership style.
Leadership is the ability that someone has to motivate, guide and empower a group of people, in the particular case the personnel of an organization, in order to achieve specific goals.
According to Business Dictionary.com, leadership is defined as the individuals who are the leaders in an organization, regarded collectively. It also can be define as the activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves the establishing of a clear vision, sharing the vision with other so that they will follow willingly, providing the needed information, knowledge, and methods to realize the vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicts interests of all members and stakeholders.
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
What Leadership Means Leadership is 'the behaviour of an individual when he is directing the activities of a group towards a shared goal'. (Hemphill and Coons, 1957, p.7) A leader is interpreted as someone who sets direction in an effort and influences people to follow that direction. How they set that direction and influence people depends on a variety of factors. To really comprehend the 'territory' of leadership, one should briefly scan some of the major theories, notice various styles of leadership and review some of the suggested traits and characteristics that leaders should have. There are many leadership theories.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines leadership as the quality of a person who guides or directs a group. Personally, leadership is giving up selfishness of oneself to guide others for the purpose of benefiting another. Leaders throughout time have been powerful individuals that help others for the greater good. Unfortunately, so-called leaders can commit actions that show they are not determined leaders, but rather selfish humans. Leadership, good and bad, has been demonstrated from the 17th century to the 21st century, and the modern nation can take these lessons and grow as leaders themselves.
There is no one-way to define or describe leadership, as it is multidimensional and ever changing. A leader is not necessarily a person in a position of authority, but rather someone that helps guide others, in order to work towards a mutually decided upon goal. Leaders operate by “sharing fundamental lessons learned and providing guidance from past experience and expertise…that spurs personal and professional development and drives people to take the necessary initiative to create change and enjoy the benefits of effecting improvement” (Batara & Woolgar, 2017, p. 155). Grossman and Valiga (2017) expand on this when they describe that in order to be a leader one must be able to have a vision, have good communication skills, know how to lead and work with change, be a steward, and be able to motivate their followers (p. 23-27). A leader is a person who is willing to explore new opportunities for change, knowing that there is a possibility that those new opportunities may fail.
Leadership is something that is heavily prevalent in the workforce and in the world today. Being a leader, in my opinion, takes someone (or a group of people) who is willing and able to lead a few or many people. Not every leader though is successful or leads in a positive way. There definitely exists both good and bad leadership. Many leaders fail while many achieve extraordinary milestones. But everyone, not just leaders, have their pitfalls and rough patches in life. I know that I myself have some weaknesses as a leader, and that is what I want to take some time to reflect on.
What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
According to Shockley and Zalabak (2009) "Leadership is a process of guiding individuals, groups, and entire organization in establishing goals and sustaining action to support goals.Leadership is like mapping out where you need to go to win". A Leader is a person who has a strong personality and who has an ability to manage people and work. He is also the person who is able to direct people .Usually a leaders has a lot of attributes that
I am not a leader and I feel no desire to become one but I can recognize one when I see it. I will try to describe the manager I wish to meet. Actually, this will require a great deal of effort. Thinking about the ideal leader is hard.
