INTRODUCTION According to Business Dictionary.com, leadership is defined as the individuals who are the leaders in an organization, regarded collectively. It also can be define as the activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves the establishing of a clear vision, sharing the vision with other so that they will follow willingly, providing the needed information, knowledge, and methods to realize the vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicts interests of all members and stakeholders. On the other hand, a leader is a person who influences a group of people in order to achieve certain goal. According to Oliver, (2006), leader is an individual who has an ability to demonstrate a specific set of role of behaviours in order to influence the others behaviours and attitudes. There three factor or keys that necessary to obtain a goal, which are the person, people, and purpose. Figure 1 below shows the relationship between the three factors needed to achieve the goal. The leader by its meaning is one who goes first and leads by example and then the other will followed him after being motivated. The above diagram can be explain as; with the three combinations, the person or the leader will influence the other people or the follower to achieve the purpose or goal. In order to achieve the goal, the leader must have a deep rooted commitment to the goal that he will strive to achieve even if nobody follows him (Wong, 2007). The follower also can influence the leader in order to achieve the goal. ‘A leader steps up in times of crisis, and is able to think and act creatively in difficult situations’ (Business Dictionary.com). However, the main stakeholder is the patients. It is important for the healthcare professionals to treats the patient. Therefore, it is important to give best services to the patients since the main interest of the healthcare organization is to provide healthcare services to the community. Conclusion The purpose of leadership in healthcare is to work with the other to improve or change the situation into the best condition. The challenges facing the healthcare professional requires a strong leadership since the situation is varying and not consistent. Healthcare is about people caring toward each other, therefore the healthcare professional must align together with one goal, so that patients will receive a high level service with professionalism.
