Personal Development Planning (PDP) can be defined as a process that helps you to think about your own learning, performance and/or achievements and to plan for your personal, educational and career development (Lboro.ac.uk, 2016). There are five primary methods used to assess the outcomes of a personal development plan such as, Reflection, Recording, Action planning, Exceuting and Evaluating (Lboro.ac.uk, 2016). Furthermore, a SWOT Analysis and a Skills Audit were carried out to identify gaps in order to develop a personal development plan to achieve leadership developments. Writing the personal development plan allowed me to use reflection, Recording and action planning. PDP, makes one aware of how they are progressing, which institutes …show more content…
It is this focus on reflection that of strengths and weaknesses that perhaps typifies the holistic aspirations behind PDP. Kolb’s (1984) cycle of experiential learning is perhaps the one concept with which many of us will be familiar. Often times, I reflect on my personal and professional life to ascertain my future goals and how to achieve same. I am cognizant that advance studies will permit me to achieve my career goals. Evaluating the outcomes of the SWOT Analysis demonstrates that self confidence and determination is my strong point. I will be able to use my determination to overcome my weakness as an effective communicator as highlighted in the skills …show more content…
Contentextra.com (n.d.) supports this position and added that evaluation helps to conclude a critical analysis of what went well and not so well. Executing and evaluating the goals set out in my personal development plan will allow me to execute a description of the development work undertaken, to know if the outcome was achieved in terms of yes or no and map the date the goal achieved against the time frames of the PDP. This creates an opportunity for me to ascertain if I am tracked in accomplishing my goals and implement remedial action to obtain my targets. Utilising training opportunities, feedback from colleagues and my manager assures me that I will be able to accomplish my short – term, medium term and long – term goals. Moreover, the process of developing, executing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on personal development goal involves conversations about learning between the employee and the manager. As such, planning for conversations to occur creates a productive and purposeful manner at the core of the process (Education.vic.gov,
Evaluation can be crucial part of employee development, it let employee know where they are currently and where they can improve and it outlines what is expected. This can give a sense of purpose. Some of the cons are they that if they are not done appropriately or too generalized it can make the employee feel lost an unfulfilled. You can make it so the goals are basically unachievable giving a sense of powerlessness. I don’t believe this statement is completely true, I believe
Finally, human skill was my lowest result. In the future I should take measures to improve my communication and ability. With a competent range between technical, human and conceptual skill, I should be able to become a middle manager to advance within my career in human resources.
...e and quality scenarios I have been exposed to and learned from. I am cognizant of my weaknesses and will continue to focus on these as I am always looking for opportunities to continue my professional growth.
Knowing what I can do well is just important as knowing what needs improvement. My strongest attributes are being able to perform under pressure and multitasking. This is necessary to sell products and perform services that benefit the customer. The value of getting the job done correctly and on time correlates to returning customers and repeat business. My competitive advantage over others in the same industry is the high level of service we offer. I don’t just push a product on a client. I listen to what they want and need, make suggestions for the best available solutions; and I also help them with cost savings and environmentally friendly alternatives. One weakness I have and need to work on is public speaking. As I grow in my career and move into managerial leader positions, I will have a lot more opportunities to give speeches. I plan to work on my public speaking skills by practicing and making incremental changes to constantly improve. It’s not a matter of being shy in front of a group. It’s more of a point to be well prepared for the occasion and motivated to do a good job. To stay prepared for opportunities and change, I plan on continuing my education in the business field, and learning as much as possible about my job. I will also need to stay up-to-date with current issues in my external and internal
The author has designed the personal learning plan around the diagnosis of his learning needs, statement of specific learning objectives, learning resources and strategies, evidence of accomplishment, how the evidence will be validated, and how the learning will be evaluated. I will concentrate on the five disciplines: Systems Thinking, Personal Mastery, Mental Models, Shared Visions, and Team Learning introduced by Peter M. Senge. This will allow me to expand my leadership abilities at my current job as well as jobs that I may hold in the future. What distinguishes leaders is the clarity and persuasiveness of their ideas, the depth of their commitment, and the extent of their openness to continually learning more. They do not "have the answer," but they seem to instill confidence in those around them that, together, "we can learn whatever we need to learn in order to achieve the results we truly desire" (Senge, 2006). Senge is explaining to us the importance of being open and to expand our knowledge. That is why every leader and employee should create a learning plan, so that they can understand as much about themselves. This allows them not only to believe in themselves, but others to believe in them as well.
The development planning process “refers to a system to retain and motivate employees by identifying and helping to meet their development needs” (Noe, 2013). This process can be used in the internal hiring process. When brining internal employees into the supervisor training program this process will motivate the employees so they will continue to grow within the company. The morale of the overall company will improve when employees are chosen internally for the supervisor training program. This process has four steps to it; they are self-assessment, reality check, goal setting, and action planning. Self-assessment identifies the improvement that is needed from the employee. The company can provide testing that shows the strengths, weaknesses, interest, and values of the employee. Reality check is when the employee determines which of the needs can be developed realistically. The company can create a performanc...
The personal leadership development plan is to capture the self-awareness of an individual. People in general have a difficult time trying to figure out who they are and how they view themselves plus how others may see them. This plan will touch on my personal strengths, areas of improvement, and also identify me as a person more in-depth. The Personal Profile System and the Team Dimensions Profile will be used to provide an understanding.
Leadership Presentations and Leadership Development Plan One of the major aspects of the Personal Leadership Development Plan is to engage in self-reflection for the betterment of self. The Personal Leadership Development Plan is an ongoing plan that is dynamic. For instance, if I would have written this plan without taking the class or reading this book- it might have looked completely different. A reoccurring theme in my leadership development plan was developing stronger self-awareness with every chance that I can get. Self-awareness is extremely important in leadership because as a leader, people need to have awareness of those that they lead.

Developing a PDP is a major method to allow individuals to understand and reflect their own performance and accomplishment and to create a plan for their personal training and career development (Personal development planning, 2009. Consequently, I decide to develop my PDP in early 2015. After one year and six months, I decide to reflect what
Personal and professional development plans (PDP) are the course of actions created on the basis of our values and our reflections on our skills which help us learn and develop ourselves and prepare us for the future. They are our estimations on how to and when to accomplish the tasks. Both personal and professional lives are benefitted with the development plan.
Although individuals might find the internal drive to seek and achieve personal development, more often they look to their workplace for development opportunities. Manning and Curtis (2015) refer to Peter Senge’s book The Fifth Discipline to help frame the fundamental pieces that foster others to “discover, create, and transfer knowledge and skills” (Manning and Curtis, 2015, p. 402). Belief and respect, high self-esteem, learning style, coaching, timing, purpose, and repeated practice are intrinsic factors in successful learning (Manning and Curtis,
The personal plan has enabled me to track myself on my developmental changes that are important for my achievement of set goals. Planning has also allowed me to keep track of all the steps that I will need to acquire skills and knowledge. I have also been able to see that if I continue in my current method I will not achieve all of my goals and through techniques such as SWOT analysis I have identified these areas and begun to create methods to fix this problem. The basic purpose of this essay is to point out my personal and professional skill development because these two areas are interwoven.
