I took five personality assessments to see what personalities seem to define who I am. I agree with some of the results, but some I don’t agree with at all. These assessments tend to mostly be accurate, however, some aren't who I am. The first personality assessment I took is called The Big Five Personality Test. The test is said to help me understand why I act the way I do and how my personality is structured. The results that I got showed me that my personality was high in agreeable ness and also high in extraversion. Agreeableness is a personality trait in people who show kindness, empathy, cooperation, warmness, and those who are considerate. People who get high in agreeableness will tend to change their behaviors to fit in with those …show more content…
Having an internal locus of control means that our successes and failures come from the amount of effort we put forth. People who are internals will hard for what they think they need in life. They won't blame their failures on anything else, but their own mistakes and not trying hard enough. Those who have an external locus of control will tend to believe that their success and failures come from luck or fate. They don't think they have to work for what they need in life, because the world will provide for …show more content…
I like to work hard for what I get in life. I don’t believe that what we get comes from luck or fate. The third personality assessment test I took is called the Short Dark Triad. The Short Dark Triad will determine if I am higher in narcissism, Machiavellianism, or psychopathy. I scored highest in Machiavellianism. The three types of personality this test asserts are narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. Machiavellianism is said to be a person who has a tendency to be so focused on themselves and their own interests that they manipulate, deceive, and treat others unfairly to achieve their goals. The Machiavellianism can be a score up to 100. Those who score above 60 are said to be high in Machiavellianism. Machiavellianism has been found to be more common in men than in women, it can even be found in children down to the age of two years old. Those who have the trait of Machiavellianism will tend to only focus on themselves before anyone else. These people will put money and power over relationships, but come across as charming and confident. They will struggle to identify their own emotions and rarely reveal their intentions. This type of personality does not believe that humans were made to be good by
I took the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test. This test is based on Carl Jung’s and Isabel Briggs Myers’ typological method to assist in understanding personality type. What a person receives from this test is a 4 letter formula which helps them learn about their personality type. The test also helps them understand what career or occupation they might be interested in and what jobs would use their personality traits. I was surprised at my results and it helped me understand myself a little better.
This week I chose to take the long version of the IPIP-NEO personality test. I feel that the results described me perfectly, even though I already knew. The descriptions of the different categories were described thoroughly. The test is based on the five personality traits that are believed to be the basic dimensions of personalities. These traits are extraversion, agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, I will share the information provided from these categories. This was a long test, with three hundred questions, I felt like it was very informative.
In the article The Dark Triad and An Expanded Framework of Personality the authors Livia Veselka, Julie Aitken Schermer, Philip A. Vernon look at the Five-Factor Model and how it has received criticism for not being able to capture the full range of traits, particularly those of antisocial behavior. They compare the Five-Factor Model with others such the Dark Triad.
McCrae, R.R. & Costa Jr, P.T., 1997. Personality trait structure as a human universal. American psychologist, 52(5), p.509.
Manfred talks specifically about four of these pathologies. The first type is the narcissistic. The narcissistic personality thinks too much about himself and pursues power and prestige while disregarding other people’s needs. These people are sensitive to confrontation and need to be instructed with caution. They will usually prefer to follow a father figure. I had business partner that fits this description.
To date, psychologists do not have a cohesive/single definition for personality. Robinson (1999) holds a common view that; personality is a set of characteristics, behavioural and emotional traits that are consistently stable and enduring. Million’s (1969) perspective is that personality is a ‘characteristic and predictable pattern of deeply embedded and broadly exhibited cognitive, affect and overt behavioural traits that once developed tend to persist over the curse of a life time’(p. 229) while Alport (cited Everly & Lating 2004) definition explains that personality is an ever changing, pattern within an individual’s psychophysical systems which is structured by the past, and influences future behaviour. For the purpose of this essay personality will be definite using Alport’s definition.
For this assignment, I was able to use the Big Five Personality Test. The Big Five Personality Test uses a statistical skill which is referred as factor analysis to find the result of the personality. The Big Five Test uses a model called OCEAN which is the acronym for personalities such as; openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism.
After taking the Big Five Personality Test I’ve concluded that it is a fairly accurate assessment of my personality. 1) On Openness to Experience/Intellect I ranked at the 53 percentile, with the description that I don’t typically seek out new experiences. I would agree with this assessment. While I am somewhat creative, I am no artist. It takes me more time to do something creative than something analytical, but I do still like to be creative on occasion.
I think this assessment was very useful in better understanding myself and possible career routes. My personality type ranks in the following order; Social (35), enterprising (24), artistic (13), investigative (11), realistic (6), and conventional (6). My highest-ranking type was social which does not surprise me because I love working with other people. On the website, they describe social as people who really like working with others in order to help them grow and learn. Some occupations for someone with this personality type include giving advice, teaching, and being of service to people. A second personality type I received was enterprising. With this personality type
Personality can and has been defined in a myriad of ways. In preparation for delving into the topic of personality assessment address the following questions:
Personalities are measured in two ways primarily, self-reporting inventories and projective techniques. Self-reporting inventories allow the applicant to alter their answers because they are responding to a series of questions. Projective techniques of measuring personalities use different items and ask the applicant to respond to what they are seeing. (DeNisi/Griffin, pg 156)
2. Take the Personality test based on Jung’s theory and the Myers-Briggs assessment device at this web site: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp. Discuss the personality type that it identified for you. Do you feel that it accurately portrays you?
Personality is the combination of characteristics and qualities that forms an individual 's character. It 's the way individuals interact and react with each other. Theories suggest that personalities can be the results of heredity (biological, physiological, or inherent) or environmental (culture, society, or media). Over the years, personality and assessment frameworks have been developed to shade some light on how our behavior is linked to our personalities. Because personality is a set of individual differences that are effect the behavior of an individual, Briggs Type Indicator and the Big Five Personality Model has been designed to help provide a better understanding personality traits. By understanding our own personalities and those of others, we can establish why we think, feel, and act the way we do. This self-assessment is beneficial on the personal and business level. It’s favorable for
This didn’t really surprise me at all either because being an introvert, I don’t like a conflict with the people I do associate with. My agreeableness on things is why I chose my profession as a teacher. I’m extremely kindhearted person who always wants to make other people around me happy. I generally put others before myself in situations to make sure I am helping them the best of my abilities. I find that being a teacher, you have to have a soft heart and be willing to teach children no matter where they come from or how they act. Children sometimes can be pests and it can be difficult to get through to them. I think it’s important to indulge a helping hand to those who need it the most. I have always had this attitude on life and I tend to keep holding my hand out for those who need me the most. I find that being agreeable in situations helps avoid difficult people. Everybody needs that one person who is willing to hear them out and help them no matter what. So, I’m not a bit surprised that I had the highest score on my agreeableness, I’m softhearted, trusting, and
Those five traits make individual personality. People who fall in the openness category are very adventure, curiosity, and appreciate new things. An individual who is “conscientious are organized and have a strong sense of duty. They're dependable, disciplined and achievement-focused “(Gray, 2001). People with extraversion personality tend to be talkative, sociability, energetic, and stay positive. Agreeableness “is a personality trait manifesting itself in individual behavioral characteristics that are perceived as a kind, sympathetic, cooperative, warm, and considerate” (Gray, 2001. Sociable is the main goal for those who are high in the agreement. Moreover, a person who is high on the agreeable level are more care because they are willing to put everything to focus. Agreeableness these “individuals are helpful, friendly, considerate, and generous. Their basic belief is that people are usually decent, honest, and trustworthy” (Gray, 2001). Their biggest advantage matinée harmony in the at work place. Introverts sometimes avoid large groups of people, feeling more energized by time alone. Lastly, is introversion/extroversion personality. People who have introversion/extroversion personality seem to find their energy on interacting with other people. Further, “extraverts are more interested in engaging the environment
