When I think of the word "Peak Performer", I often like to break down words to discover the essence of the word. The word peak, is a high point or most important point or level (dictionary.com), the greatest level of anything. A performer, is someone who is doing something, putting in action. So putting those two definitions together seems to suggest a person that is performing on a high level. Peak performers, in my opinion, are those who strive to do their very best, those who give their all to a specific task. Peak performers are creative and innovative people who easily adapt and adjust to evolving change rather it be at work, in school or the community. Peak performers are ambitious in every pursuit. To asses your self means to mentally process and get beneath the surface to understand who you are and what makes you “tick”. I have found that utilizing strengths and weakness charts to evaluate yourself is extremely helpful. After defining your strengths and weaknesses, you then will be able to effectively work towards goals, both short term and long terms. Self-evaluations are helpful to me both personal and professional. In my personal life, knowing how to make decisions for my family is important. For example, financially, I recently evaluated my personal spending and realized that it was not beneficial to the overall well-being of our financial success. Upon that evaluation I was able to cut back on a lot of unnecessary spending and put my family in a better position. In my professional career, I recently switched careers. I realized that my passion and willingness to help was not being utilized at FedEx as a project manager. I wanted to really make a direct, life changing difference. I recently began working for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as a Sr. Advisor for Philanthropic Giving. It's always great to "get to know" yourself again. From the Learning Style Inventory I have discovered that I am a visual learner. When planning my week, or an event or even a project, it is mandatory that I write it all out on a whiteboard. If I don't visually see it, chances are there are some pieces to the project that may not be completed. It's the same with our online classes, I enjoy the actual lectures. My wife is completing her MBA with Bethel and often listens to her lectures while doing other things. I have to sit down, listen and watch the lecture to better understand. Knowing that I am a visual learner will helps me in every aspect of my life.
