When I think of the word "Peak Performer", I often like to break down words to discover the essence of the word. The word peak, is a high point or most important point or level (dictionary.com), the greatest level of anything. A performer, is someone who is doing something, putting in action. So putting those two definitions together seems to suggest a person that is performing on a high level. Peak performers, in my opinion, are those who strive to do their very best, those who give their all to a specific task. Peak performers are creative and innovative people who easily adapt and adjust to evolving change rather it be at work, in school or the community. Peak performers are ambitious in every pursuit. To asses your self means to mentally process and get beneath the surface to understand who you are and what makes you “tick”. I have found that utilizing strengths and weakness charts to evaluate yourself is extremely helpful. After defining your strengths and weaknesses, you then will be able to effectively work towards goals, both short term and long terms. Self-evaluations are helpful to me both personal and professional. In my personal life, knowing how to make decisions for my family is important. For example, financially, I recently evaluated my personal spending and realized that it was not beneficial to the overall well-being of our financial success. Upon that evaluation I was able to cut back on a lot of unnecessary spending and put my family in a better position. In my professional career, I recently switched careers. I realized that my passion and willingness to help was not being utilized at FedEx as a project manager. I wanted to really make a direct, life changing difference. I recently began working for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as a Sr. Advisor for Philanthropic Giving. This affords me to not only work and support my family, but everyday I commit myself to the mission of St. …show more content…
It's always great to "get to know" yourself again. From the Learning Style Inventory I have discovered that I am a visual learner. When planning my week, or an event or even a project, it is mandatory that I write it all out on a whiteboard. If I don't visually see it, chances are there are some pieces to the project that may not be completed. It's the same with our online classes, I enjoy the actual lectures. My wife is completing her MBA with Bethel and often listens to her lectures while doing other things. I have to sit down, listen and watch the lecture to better understand. Knowing that I am a visual learner will helps me in every aspect of my life. Even when my family members give me directions to a location, they know not to tell me streets or highways, but rather give me actual
Learning, like religion, is a social experience.” Currently, I have a class that I am enrolled in, often I find myself asking “Why I am in this class?” I learn nothing from this lady, her notes are continuously blurry, and every single student is unable to read them. She talks in circles and expects everyone to be able to follow. Personally, I wish I would have taken an online course for this particular class. Everything I have learned in this class has been solely self-taught. To be prepared for the class, I pre-read the chapter we will be having a discussion about in addition to study the curriculum, still I cannot keep up or understand what is coming out of her mouth. I also feel that I am not the only one in class that is completely lost, which makes me feel better about the whole situation. Whereas I am also enrolled in another class, which I adore and value every single minute. This particular class requires an hour and forty-five minutes a day for four days a week. To think this class I feared the most when I enrolled at the beginning of school. Surprisingly now, it is by far my favorite! I have learned so much information in such a little span of time. It is truly remarkable, the change of mind I have had towards this subject! Credit is due to my professor, she is outstanding! Then, of course, I have this class! Comp 1, which as you know is online. There has been struggles, as I think I would have learned better with face to face encounters with my peers and involved discussion with other students and a professor, although I think I have managed to keep my head above the water so far. All- together, with only my brief personal experience given, you cannot say online courses are worse than an in class
I have often wondered what it would be like to experience the freedom of choosing my own class schedule. This has to be infinitely more stimulating and enjoyable. I am also aware that college will be significantly more challenging, but I have always found it easier to study for a class that interests me. I am willing to accept the fact that as long as I am in school, there will be required courses which may not engender excitement or enthusiasm; however, success should not be as difficult to achieve due to the maturity that is developing during this last year of high school. In addition, I have gained an understanding of the benefit of being well rounded. There is value in all classes taken. It helps to know that even my least favorite subject will contribute to the ultimate goal of personal and career development.
Kaslow, Grus, Campbell, & Fouad, et al. (2009) thought that character – evaluation is self-examination of personal and ethical issues that need to be focused upon. Self-care is taking care of your mental and physical health by regular health screenings. Also, psychotherapy is not just for clients; it is not shameful to admit that you need help. A therapist must be psychologically stable.
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
Two strengths I learned during my Self Awareness assessment were being a good listener and showing loyalty. I really try to be a good listener in all situations. I like to hear the whole story or complete process in whatever it may be. I am cautious about making decisions without having all the details. I don't mind taking the time out to get the details. Yes, it may take some time up front and may not lead to a quick decision but in the long run it prevents mistakes and errors as well as misjudging which can lead to more heartache and pain down the road. Loyalty is also very important to me in the work center. Knowing that you are devoted and committed to the success of the organization will motivate your people to do the same. They also need to know that they can come to you with a problem whether it is personal or work related. This will allow them to be more open to bringing problems to your attention that could later have a disastrous effect on the organization in the future. Both pers...
In the beginning of the semester, I thought it would be enjoyable to take Anatomy and Physiology since I had already taken it in high school and actually received a high grade. I had heard from many students that this class is much harder in college and will often have a big lecture setting with more than three-hundred students, but I brushed this off and went into the classroom with a positive attitude. I quickly learned that big lectures were not the classes that I would succeed in, instead I preferred a small classroom setting where I am able to ask questions whenever needed. Throughout the semester, I also learned that I prefer online classes when it comes to mathematics and social sciences because they can be self-taught and I found myself often uninterested during the
I understand my styles and behaviors better now. Too bad I didn’t take this course earlier in life. Understanding myself will help me understand other people better I believe. That will be helpful concidering the profession I intend to have.
read, it is amazing, I focus in the lecture, and it is like make a traveling. I am no physically there,
Peak performers come from many different lifestyles and backgrounds. A peak performer sets long-term goals to achieve and takes small steps to achieve those goals. People are not perfect, they make mistakes every single day. Peak performers do not dwell on those mistakes, they overcome those obstacles to achieve their goals. “They are masters, not victims, of life’s situations.” According to an article by Bethel University, to become a peak performer a person must be able to push themselves past their comfort zone. They should think creatively and make sound judgments in order to make effective decisions. They need to become lifelong learners, and surround themselves with people that have the same aspirations. Surrounding oneself with like-minded
I realised that self-awareness is important in achieving self-improvement. The more an individual understands themselves, the better he or she is at adapting life changes that is according to their needs. The more self-aware we are, it improves the level of confidence we have on oneselves. This can be achieved through greater exposure, thus widens one’s experiences and will be more likely be more accepting of others. Self-awareness will also benefit us to be more accurate in accessing
Over the course of the semester, I have learned a few things about myself. I have learned that I can be independent, I always knew myself as someone who could do mostly everything on their own. This semester really made me realize how independent I could actually be. Not only have I learned how independent I am I have also realized the importance of time management. With not having a strict class schedule it was a lot different than what I was originally used to. After a few weeks, I learned ways that would work best for me, for example writing down that I needed to get done. I learned that I need to focus on what 's ahead of me to accomplish what I want to succeed in, to manage what needs to be done ahead of time to stay caught up.
Over the last semester I have learned many things about myself. I have learned that no matter what anyone says I am a strong young woman that can take anything life throws at me. I have also learned a lot about myself as a person and that there is a lot more to the world then just where I grew up. I have also learned that going to a smaller school in high school was a blessing but also was bad for me in many different ways. Through this semester I have learned what my strengths and weaknesses are and how to deal with them. I have learned that some of my strengths are also weaknesses in some way and that to deal with them I must first know what they are. I have also learned what my values are and that sometimes your values change with the things you do. You should also not just settle for things that go against you values. Along with learning what my values are I learned how my personality affects my values. I so the fact that I have more of an internal happy personality affects my values because one of the top values that I have is that I have friends. This relates to the fact that my work interests are more because where I work after college must be a place where I am able to work with people. I am a very socially active person so where ever I work ...
I have enjoyed many things about this class. One of the things that I have enjoyed was finding out about my learning patterns. I enjoyed finding out about my learning patterns because it has helped me so much in my life. I can have a conversation with someone and will try and figure out how they learn. I also enjoyed how everything was explained about what our instructor was expecting from us. I enjoyed this because it saves a lot of questions I may have needed to ask my instructor. Interacting with my peers is something that I enjoy as well. When I interact with my peers I feel like I am really in a classroom. Things that I would like to change about this class would be the responses from emails; I wish the responses would be quicker when there are questions. I feel that my expectations of online learning were met plus more. I feel this way because I am actually learning things and I am not just getting a grade because I turned information in. I thought online learning wasn’t serious; I was scared I wouldn’t get the correct knowledge as I would on

Personal Development is a lifelong process that involves the assessment of current skills and talents and the enhancement of oneself based on that assessment which then leads to the realization of goals and an improved quality of life. To be able to assess yourself, you need to be able to reflect on your past which helps you to understand the attitudes you have developed and the foundation that you will be building your life on. Also, you have to reflect on your present to see if there’s room for improvement and reflect on your future so that you can achieve your aspirations.
