Peak performers come from many different lifestyles and backgrounds. A peak performer sets long-term goals to achieve and takes small steps to achieve those goals. People are not perfect, they make mistakes every single day. Peak performers do not dwell on those mistakes, they overcome those obstacles to achieve their goals. “They are masters, not victims, of life’s situations.” According to an article by Bethel University, to become a peak performer a person must be able to push themselves past their comfort zone. They should think creatively and make sound judgments in order to make effective decisions. They need to become lifelong learners, and surround themselves with people that have the same aspirations. I do not have have any that have a 5 because I feel like there is always room for improvement. I believe that my strengths are positive visualization, knowing how I learn, honesty and integrity, responsibility, flexibility/ability to adapt to change, self-esteem, confidence, time-management, and ability to work with diverse groups. I have had to develop those traits when I was in the United States Marine Corps and in my current profession with the Tennessee Department of Correction. Even though that I have some strengths there are some things that I need to work on. The areas that I need to work on include listening, note taking, self-management, emotional control, money management, and interpersonal communication skills. One of the areas that I need to work on the most is emotional control. I am a very passionate person and committed to task that I get assigned. If there is a reason beyond my control that may set the task behind I get emotional, the emotion is mainly anger. I have been working on this by understanding that I cannot predict every problem that may occur and I cannot physically make other people finish certain tasks. I was excited to take the Gallup Strengths Finder assessment. Although I am more reserved and shy, I typically find myself placed in leadership positions. I am always surprised when people refer to me as a leader but family members and close friends have made me more aware of this personality characteristic. I really enjoyed taking the Gallup Strength Finder assessment and I can see why this would be an assessment growing in popularity across the globe. When I finished the assessment, my results showed that my strengths, from first to last, are developer, empathy, input, connectedness, and restorative.
After completing the Clifton strength finders test, I learned my dominant strengths and it gave me a sense on what areas I am strong in. It allows you to work in the areas that you are good in and not in the ones you might not be as strong in. My top five strengths were learner, connectedness, belief, positivity, and includer. A lot of these I figured I would have because I am an athlete and I love to be positive. That is good because I practice these strengths every day which in turn will make me better at them and will allow me to use them in my career.
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. As Roth states in Strengths Finder 2.0, we as a present day world tend to focus on and try to overcome our weaknesses rather that building up our strengths. Using our natural talents can help us do the best we can and help us be a better asset. After taking the strengths assessment, I found that my top five strengths themes ended up being: relator, discipline, competition, responsibility, and significance.
My five strengths according to the strength finder include; balance, this helps me be aware of treating all people equally regardless of the situation. I am neither in anyone 's favor or against anyone as this to me is selfishness and individualism. This would result in a situation where some people scale heights due to connections while others are lagging behind. I believe that a consistent environment where the rules apply to everyone is the best for individuals to function best (Rath, 2007). Flexibility is my next strength. Reaching any success will not be easy to achieve. Academic success, in that matter, to me, is meeting or exceeding the University's expectations, learning to the best ability, standing out, and building knowledge towards ones own vocational calling and degree. Personal strengths reflect and devote those aspirations; contributing to finding and accomplishing life goals and academic success. After finalizing the Gallup “StrengthsFinder” valuation, my top five strengths were determined to be competition, adaptability, harmony, ideation, and futuristic, in that order. As an Internation Business Major, yet to find my vocational calling; my goal is to habit those strengths, set academic ambitions, be extrusive, and have a willingness to learn new things of my desired profession while seeking for my calling in life.

Through the self-assessment instruments utilized in this program, I have gained wealth of knowledge about my strengths, and weaknesses and how they affect my personal and professional life. By using different exercises, I recognized new strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, I identified ways to develop my strengths and overcome my weaknesses. The Kolb Learning Style Inventory (LSI) identified some of my strengths as the ability to get things done, initiating, and taking risks (Kolb, 2007). In the Strongest Self Feedback Exercise, some of the feedback listed my strengths as having excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being self-confident, a fast learner, determined, hardworking, and an awesome listener (Drucker, 2005).
As I stated earlier, loyalty is one of my top values, and I believe that if I am a loyal leader many people will trust me and develop their leadership attributes. Along with loyalty comes relationships. To me, the two go hand in hand. It is nearly impossible to have a healthy relationship when someone is not being loyal. I believe my greatest opportunity to be loyal and successful is to utilize my leadership ability to fulfill my potential. I plan to use the strengths I discovered from StrengthsFinder 2.0 to navigate my values down whichever path I decide to choose for the remainder of my college career, and any post-graduation occupation. I believe that my top strength, harmony, will continue to affect the way I make relationships. Harmony has been an extremely large part of my life and I intend to rely on it throughout my life. I know that my second strength, adaptability, will give me the tools to encounter anything that life throws at me. I understand that things are not always going to go the way you intend. Having the ability to adjust my thought processes is just one way adaptability will make a difference in my life. I believe that my third strength, WOO, will help me to build relationships and expand my network no matter how old I am. My strengths include an uncanny open-mindedness and an unrelenting kindness and gratitude towards my fellow humans. If I was to ever have any true weaknesses trying to hard is the first one. My need to be a perfectionist sometimes gets the best of me; I strive for excess in all areas of my life. I think it is of the most importance to understand your strengths and weakness. I’ve improved my strengths through exposure and emphasis. From the beginning I always found a passion in my school’s Gay-Straight Alliance, I went on to lead them for the last two years. I am an exceptional member of my school’s National Honor’s Society, and I have done more than what is expected of me at my job at Hy-Vee and have been proud to do so. My abilities and performances have taught me a lot throughout life and I have discovered who I am and what I can be. I have found that I am a leader. I have found that I am in control of the situations I find myself in. I’ve grown throughout my trials by finding the lesson in every circumstance. I am adaptable and continually grow from my misgivings. I choose to see the glass half full and see in the positive. Every weakness that I have is a strength waiting to be built upon. (Schermerhorn, 2014, p.264). By never being a performer, leaders are able to focus more of their time on and delegate employees. They use the power they have to influence change and motivate others to carry out their visions. Each one has a strength that sets them apart from all the rest.
Part I. Strengths Personal Profile System Two strengths I learned during my Self Awareness assessment were being a good listener and showing loyalty. I really try to be a good listener in all situations. I like to hear the whole story or complete process, whatever it may be. I am cautious about making decisions without having all the details.
Other strengths include being self-confident, conscientious, diligent and determined. It was interesting to see my lower scores as well; the lowest average score was sensitivity (3.2), followed closely by self-assuredness and perception and empathy. Although I consider myself sensitive, I believe the sense of sensitivity does not apply as often towards others I interact with. For example, I often speak my mind and voice my opinion with little thought of the consequence or impact it might have on those around me. Thus, sensitivity is not one of my existing strengths, but rather an opportunity for growth. I also found it interesting to note how I scored significantly lower in the human skill, and higher in technical, which I did not expect. Through module four and five I have completed five self -assessments: people skills, anger management, team effectiveness, leadership skills, and management skills. These tests have taught me even more information about myself, and ways to improve my skills to be completely effective. I am working towards a business management degree so getting feedback and tips on topics and situations pertaining to my major, such as negotiations and conflicts, has been a huge gain for me that I use and keep with me throughout my academic and personal life.
