Organizing my lab notebook was crucial in keeping me organized this semester. I have a simple 3 ring binder with several dividers in it. In the very front and first part of my binder I had a copy of the syllabus, schedule, the FAQ's for BIOL 227L and 228L that was provided, as well as the Biology Laboratory Safety Rules and Procedure Agreement paper, the Lab Dress Code Policy, and finally, the Microscope Checklist and Microscope Usage and Handling outline. Basically all of the papers that we received in the beginning of the semester, I made copies and kept them in my binder so they were available at all times. This way, anytime I had a question about what was going to happen or how something would be graded, I knew I had it in my binder …show more content…
I was not always able to sit and do all of my pre-lab activities as well as my entry ticket at one time so having my notebook sectioned off helped me keep it all straight. It took me a few weeks to realize that I should put the current week in the very front of my notebook, until I had completed that lab. That way, when I had to work on my assignments at different points throughout the week, I opened up to the beginning of my lab notebook and was able to work quick and not waste time. With time being so important to me this semester, I made keeping my notebook organized a priority. Because over these 16 weeks I was able to keep my notebook so organized, it really felt organized in other areas of my life. When taking 16 credits, things can get overwhelming and it is very easy to get cluttered and unorganized with school stuff as well as life in …show more content…
It showed me that if I take the time each week to place the papers in the right place, in the end it is so much easier in the end. For example, when it was time to do this assignment and write this paper, I was prepared. All I had to do was grab my lab notebook and my computer and sit down and organized my thoughts. In the past I may have been scrambling to find all the right papers, printing ones that are missing or torn and redoing assignments that are either lost or at least unaccounted for. In the future I will reflect back on this class and use these organization tools and skills that I acquired over this semester. One of the main valuable, yet simple, lessons I learned is to not put anything off and do it now, rather then later. If I would have waited, even one day, to put my weekly assignment in my lab notebook, the room for error grows. I could have misplaced the paper I finished, therefore would lose time having to do it again. I could have showed up to lab not prepared and had to, once again, waste more time by finding or redoing the assignment, and then finding time to attend another
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
... the value of organization and planning. The structure provided by the instructor truly helped me break down very large projects into smaller, more approachable assignments. For example, for each essay due, there were smaller deadlines that needed to be met. As I kept up with those smaller assignments, the actual large due date was not intimidating and I was able to handle the stress better. I will definitely use this approach in my future academic writing assignments.
Throughout this course, we had multiple assignments that were aimed at improving us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning. Our weekly craft lessons have introduced us to multiple writing strategies. These strategies have helped turn my papers from elementary papers that were written below my expected grade level to papers more on par with my peers.
I learned from my peers that I am a better writer than I thought I was and that increased my confidence in my writing ability. This didn’t just teach me about myself; I learned how to write several different types of papers. I improved throughout the semester as I learned how to analyze for rhetorical appeals, research an issue, and evaluate a topic. I am glad that I was able to learn a lot from this class, as well as read my peers work. It was intriguing to see how others write and what topic are important to them. Lastly, I was proud of all my work that I accomplished in this

Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
These three lessons were the most significant things I’ve learned while attending school. From kindergarten rules all the way to beginning the road to finding myself. Spending more than half of my life in school I’ve dealt with failure, achievement, and everything in between. I’ve learned great life-lessons that have impacted me greatly not just for the time being, but
I’ve come to learn that is really crucial to have a notepad and writing utensil with me at all times. Sometimes I’m asked to do multiple tasks at a time and by writing them down I know I won’t forget information. Also, during my daily meetings, there are crucial dates and other important information that must be written down.
It helps me stay focused and keep things organized by wrapping things up and reviewing all things that we learned throughout that particular week. In all, this assignment has helped me a lot by enforcing the need to research before making great decisions. One great decision in my life at this moment is trying to decide on a major and trying to reveal and find out what I really want to be. This assignment has helped me discover what it is like to get into a good law school, what the work load is like, what types of law there is to pursue a career in, and what the salary is.
I am not the kind of person who talks or writes much. Putting my thoughts on papers is something I have always struggled with doing. I believe this class will help me improve on transferring my thoughts to paper, in an organized fashion. I look forward to becoming a better writer because of this class.
Keeping things in place will get rid of clutter and things that you do not need. A well-organized individual should always know where to find things, have a filing system in place, keep the work area neat and tidy, and get rid of unnecessary things that take up space. If you de-clutter your area, you will find that you are more organized and know where things are stored when you need it. A good way of getting organized is, therefore, to keep things in place and de-clutter your area. You will find that by doing this you will feel more organized and goal
Documentation in a lab notebook is very important for multiple reasons. When using documentation in a lab notebook it is important to write every single thing down. Writing every detail down is a big deal because of how many different things that those details are needed for. When doing a lab it is important to right every step down. When observing changes or going back over the lab you must know every step you did to make sure you know what happened during the lab. If all measurements are not recorded and something were to go wrong, then there would be no help as to knowing why the lab went wrong. There also needs to be record of everything that happens in a lab for legal reasons. If the lab is important and is a test for a company or government,
Without a doubt the lessons and exercises on time management were the most meaningful to me. They brought insight into why I seemed to be constantly working yet still never really got anything I wanted to accomplish throughout the day finished. I realized the majority of the activities I had been spending the most time on didn’t reflect my values of hard work and self discipline and long term academic goals to be successful in college. This motivated to completely change the way I managed my time by effectively striking a balance between my maintenance, committed, and free time.
Professor Stuart used a lot of discussions in the class. Everyone in class offered their opinion on all the material we encountered during the course. The class discussions contributed to helping me learn because it provided me with extra information and different viewpoints of how others interpreted the material. Also, we ended up going to the library and taking a tour. This experience added to my learning in this course because it taught me how to find the proper materials in the library and how to accurately benefit from the sources available in the library. Another contributing factor was the individual conferences scheduled by the professor. The conference contributed because the teacher discussed the current grade I had in that class and helped me understand what I needed to do to improve my academic writing along with my grade. The Prezi PowerPoints encouraging my learning by providing me with accurate information, further helping me understand the underlying material. Peer review also played a role in my learning because it allowed us to get outside ideas or criticism for our paper, allowing us to fix the mistakes, before turning it in. In addition to all these contributing factors, the hupomnemata really benefited me the most. The hupomnemata is a journal used for writing down notes on the material and some things the professor said in
I have personally gained a wealth of knowledge and experience from all of my own little mishaps, and a few major ones. One instance of a failure that taught me well was when I tried to find a quick solution to boiling eggs. I was so tired of what I considered the long process of boiling eggs that I formulated a more imaginative way to cook them. I gathered my eggs in a large glass mixing bowl, poured water on top of them, and popped the bowl in the microwave. I set the appliance on for about 10 minutes, and then left the kitchen so the eggs could be nuked while I finished my other chores.
