This was the happiest I had been since my dads death. My mom was extremely proud of me and we had a party. We invited Jamal and some other neighbors around. That summer I started talking to Jamal more and I was at a great spot in my life. A few days after the party I started thinking about what I wanted to do with my life and the first thing that came into my mind was being an entrepreneur and owning my own business. I started thinking of things that I could make into a business that would make a difference. I decided that I would try and create an app that would put all of the jobs around you that have an open spot into one place. I thought that this would be good because there is a ton of people that don’t have jobs in Compton and in
It was my senior year of high school, I was sixteen, getting ready to turn seventeen. It was my senior year of high school. I was not your typical girl wearing makeup everyday and worrying about getting dolled up for school. I did not play sports. Don’t get me wrong, I would get all dolled up if I had something special to do like go to a school dance. I had a part time job at Olive garden because my parents motto was “if you do not play a sport you need to work!” My mom used to say to me “you know Alana back in my time I was not able to work so you are very lucky you're able to work.
We lived way out in the sticks in a trailer park community it was a nice community my uncle had lived there for many years. Its 2007 and I already took and passed my GED with flying colors I needed to find a job and I really didn’t know much so I asked a friend of mine who worked for this guy named frank. Frank had a business where he would install granite counter tops and tile floors he was looking for someone to help remove and install the counter tops and tile. I was nervous I had never done anything like this before I was only use to either cutting grass or construction jobs with my dad that only pertained to nailing wood and sheets of plywood up. I had worked for frank for about a year and a half before I had to quit I missed California too much I wanted to move back I missed the warm air and the smell of the dairies and that breeze from the ocean air when it hits you I missed all of that so I moved back and I moved in with my dad. I have had a few jobs in my life that didn’t last very long either the time wasn’t right or whatever but I ended up getting hired at the Walmart distribution center and it was a blessing in disguise because now we can get by. Even though we still have to live paycheck to paycheck we can now not stress as much as how we were going to make it work, how we were
It was the day of April 13, 2000. I woke up at exactly 12 o’clock because my boyfriend was to pick me up at 1 like we planned the night before. The day looked quite nice, but I was in a fowl mood. I got into a car accident the night before and had a huge argument with my parents about the car. I finally dragged myself into the shower and got ready in half an hour. Then I went downstairs, sat on my couch, and repeatedly told myself the day would hopefully turn out better than last night. At around 1:15, my boyfriend came to pick me up. We took the 5 freeway to the 57 since it was the only way I knew how to get there. As we approached the 134 freeway, my girlfriend veered to the right, taking the 210 which was wrong way and got us lost. So, we exited the freeway and got back on the right track. Then finally, before long, we reached Norton Simon.

On the night of October 1, 1910 at 1:07 a.m., the Los Angeles Times building in Los Angeles, California was attacked by two brothers, James B. McNamara (“J.B.”) and John J. McNamara (“J.J.”). J.B. left a suitcase of dynamite next to barrels of flammable printer ink in the “Ink Alley”, a narrow alley in between the main Times building and the Times annex. The dynamite had a detonator connected to a windup clock, which was set to explode at 1 a.m. He also left bombs, similar to those in the “Ink Alley”, that were also set to explode ay 1 a.m. next to Times publisher Harrison Gray Otis’ home and the secretary of MMA Felix Zeehandelaar’s home. The bomb went off at 1:07 a.m. outside the three-story Los Angeles Times Building, causing the side of
In the beginning of 2012, I lost my job and have been searching for a job for several months. At that time I was very stressed because I could not find anything that was suitable for me. One weekend, I decided to go to the shopping mall for some window shopping because i...
No matter where you go, there is a high chance that you will meet an illegal resident of that country. Even with today's high security, many people still cross America’s border without the correct paperwork. When they come over, they face similar obstacles that former Okies had to deal with. “Okie” is a term used to describe the people from Oklahoma, and usually has a negative connotation. These obstacles include: being persecuted and struggling with daily life, but with these come some minor differences.

It was the summer of my sophomore year in high school, and I was sitting down getting ready to select classes for the upcoming school year with my mom. We were sitting at the kitchen table one night that summer tossing around ideas on what I wanted to be and do with my life, and what classes fit what we were talking about. I thought it was the stupidest thing ever and I just wanted to take the easiest classes that good ole Rhinelander High School had to offer, but not with my mom right there. So we got to talking about what I wanted to be. "It was always a dream of mine to be a doctor" I replied to my mom. "Yes I know but with you slouffing off the way you did last year in high school, then you better get your act together, cause grades are very important." she added. I thought to myself "she is just babbling, that’s what she always tells me, but what do I really want to do with my life?" I questioned myself. I then added "I can't see myself being a doctor, and going through all of those hard classes in college, I want to get in and get out with a degree" I added, "Maybe I'll be an accoutant, I did really good in that class, I didn't even get a B on one test or assignment" I replied. Oh did my mom love that idea, "Are you sure?" "Yeah why not, I can give it a shot" I answered in excitement. "Ya know what I really don't know mom, I get confused on what I want to do, I feel like I'm rushing my life so fast that I'm not going to get anything done that I want to get done in my life" I told her.
Recently the school board has decided to make HVHS a closed campus. I believe this is a good idea. Many reasons why i believe this is a good idea. For one the school cafeteria food is delicious and nutritious. Second reason why, so students can make friends and socialize. Lastly staying on campus will keep the students safe.
I now knew what I was meant to do with my life. I was meant to teach. I was meant to be there for those kids like Trey who don’t have anyone else. They need some person in their life to be their protector and someone to look out for them. I can teach them more than just their ABC’s. Trey didn’t have someone at home to care for him so it made it really hard for him to learn. If I can meet the basic need of caring for the kids as a teacher, then it will be so much easier for them to learn. One five year-old little boy changed my life and shaped my future. It wasn’t a big extreme moment, but just something small that opened my eyes. Isn’t it crazy that something so small as a little boy could make me realize what I was meant to do? I will never forget Trey and the impact he made on my
When Adam was first created he was in the Garden of Eden with all the animals, but he was still alone. He was surrounded by animals and life, but he was still missing something. He was not able to have conversation, or relate to the animals because they were completely different than he was. Adam longed for a partner, someone he could connect with. His first experience with the animals and loneliness is called original solitude. Theology of the Body defines original solitude as “the original state when Adam realized he was alone because he was without a true companion; it also refers to the human experience of being alone in the world as a person, as someone fundamentally different that the animals,” (Theology of the Body 49). What Adam truly
That summer after school I just wanted to find a job and start making some money. Going to college for anther four year was something I thought I could not handle. I final got a job at UPS unloading trucks. At first I thought how hard could it be? But every day I would come home exhausted from working in the heat. And then when I got tiny pay check, it hit me. From then on I decided that manual labor was something that I could not do the rest of my life and I could definitely not support a family on that income. A job behind a desk in the air conditioning was what I wanted.
These past eight years could only be described as a marvelous journey filled with unexpected experiences and rewarding life lessons. More so, my life is not even remotely similar to the way I had imagined it in the beginning of summer of 2008, my high school’s graduation.
It was December 4, 2014 and it was snowing outside. I was sitting at the kitchen table doing homework. All my family was downstairs, so I was all alone. My English teacher told us to write a paper about how I am different from my classmates. I was thinking about what in my life makes me different and slowly my whole life was playing like a movie in my head. The first memory that popped into my head was my fourth birthday party. It was supposed to be the best birthday ever. My dad was going to come. It was February 24, 2002 at my birthday party. There were so many people there, but I was so focused on my dad coming, no one else seemed to matter. My cake was pink and yellow with a bicycle on it. I had a red and blue inflatable that kids were
