The area surrounding the Cuyahoga River is notorious for being extremely polluted and industrialized. An exception to this is Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This area has a rich history and has been used as a source of livelihood, industrialization, and recreation for centuries. This rural oasis takes up nearly thirty two square miles in northeastern Ohio and is the only National Park in the state. It became recognized as an official National Park in 2000 and before was known as the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area. Cuyahoga Valley National Park preserves a rural landscape along the Cuyahoga River and serves as a contrast to the otherwise metropolitan setting.
The Okipa is a four-day ceremony that is held annually in spring or summer. According to George Catlin, a painter, who spent time with the Mandan tribe in 1832, because the Mandan tribe had no official record or way to mark specific days, once the Willow leaves reached full size it was time for the ceremony.
The article “Leaving Omelas: Questions of Faith and Understanding,” by Jerre Collins, draws attention to the fact that the short story “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas,” by Ursula Le Guin, has not impacted Western thought despite its literary merit. Collins breaks his article down into three parts, the first explaining that he will “take this story as seriously as we are meant to take it” (525). Collins then goes over several highly descriptive sections of the story, which invite the reader to become part of the utopia that is Omelas. Collins states that when it comes to the state of the child and how it affects the citizens of Omelas the descriptions “may seem to be excessive and facetious” (527). But this is because Le Guin is using a

The Denver March Pow Wow event was fun, educational, and interesting. The Pow Wow consisted of many diverse Native American tribes from all over the United States, who have come to perform cultural dances, and educate others about their beliefs. The Pow Wow had many booths on the outside that sold many different but relevant goods, such as: natural medicines, jewelry, animal skin, instruments, art and music. I found it fascinating that some Native Americans still lived in their tribes within their home village on the reservation.
Although there is not an official date of when the first rodeo was held, most people believe it was the Prescott Frontier Days. On July 4th, 1888 in Prescott, Arizona the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association held a competition, called a rodeo. The winner of this cowboy tournament was given a small amount of prize money and a trophy. Admission was charged at the gate to watch the contestants compete in bronc riding, steer roping, and cow horse racing. At the end of the day the first ever professional title was given away (Anderson). The fourth of July is now considered as “Cowboy Christmas” for all rodeo contestants, and is one of the busiest times of the year in the sport.
Alvin C. York who was an American war hero during WWI, was born on December 13, 1887, in Pall Mall, Tennessee. York was third out of eleven kids , he grew up in a small cabin and didn’t receive a lot of schooling as a child. When his father died in 1911, York, was forced to help his mother raise his younger siblings. Because of all the pressure he was under, of trying to fill his father’s shoes. York became a heavy drinker and was frequently involved in bar fights. York stayed a heavy drinker until 1914, when his friend Everett Delk was beaten to death during brawl in Static, KY. After that, he became a member of a Church. This is where York met his wife, Gracie Williams, through the church's Sunday school and singing in the choir. York then

People inhabiting the Aleutian Islands, other Islands in Bering Sea, and parts of western Alaska were called Aleuts. Many Aleut men departed their homes for lands beyond the horizon. They began their journey on June 1, 1775, they all got on the St. Paul and returned to Siberia. Two Aleut men wanted to travel home instead of going to the Russia cities, but their determination to get to the land was at high. They traveled for months across mountains, through forests, and across icy fields. A treaty in 1727 ensured that trade go through Kyakhta or Tsurkhaitu first. Kyakhta had some houses from wealthy merchants. The Russians had valuable medicinal properties. In exchange, the Russian vessels visited the archipelago to gather furs. A year later,
Over the years, many scientists and archeologists have traveled the world in search of more clues about our past. Among those found was the preserved mummy of a Neolithic man buried in ice. Otzi, a name the mummy earned from the Otztal Alps where he was unearthed, was dated to have lived over 5300 years ago. From the moment of discovery, the Iceman served as a subject of study that pushed back much of what we predicted the human timeline to be. This included the copper age, agriculture, as well as complex crafting of clothing and utilities. Until more recent studies were done it was assumed that Otzi had died at the hands of natural causes such as freezing in a storm. This, however, was proven wrong when further investigation shows that Otzi had died of a more aggressive cause of death. So why was Otzi killed on the high mountain tops of the Otztal Alps? My goal in this paper is to prove why the Iceman was murdered all those years ago.
Imagine living in a dark and scary world. People are frequently trying to hurt you. Demons speak to you from the shadows. You fear you may kill people with your thoughts. Then imagine you had to step out of the house every day and function like everyone else. How would you accomplish such a thing? Is it even possible? Indeed, while it seems improbable, Elyn Saks shows us that it is not impossible. Saks holds multiple degrees from prestigious universities and has a satisfying career in higher education. She has a close group of friends who cherish her and a husband who accepts her for who she is. Not only is Elyn Saks a woman with schizophrenia functioning in the world, she is functioning perhaps better than most.

However, after a period of continued loss-making, the company wound up its operations in the
Atman is the core within a person, it is the ultimate thing or soul inside an individual and this Atman goes from lifetime to lifetime, meaning it will be reborn, in another life, as something else. Brahman is above everything; it is the ultimate essence. The reason Atman equals Brahman is because they both connect to become one when an individual achieves Moksha (liberation). The goal is for the Atman to return to the Brahman, which means the soul reaches liberation. The individual reaches liberation when its karma is balanced off. Atman equaling Brahman is distinct from the Buddha’s understanding of Anatman because in Buddhism, Anatman has no self or soul. Every individual is made up of five skandhas and Anatman is the result of the skandhas.
