The English language has been around for a long time, it first originated from what we call Old English, the original name of Old English is Anglo-Saxon. The language Anglo-Saxon was spoken along the coast of Frisia. The old country Frisia went from the south coast of Denmark down to the north coast of The Netherlands. Around the fifth century the Anglo-Saxons traveled to Britain and dominated the country. Later Old English was divided into four dialects and around the ninth century, one of the four dialects, the saxon dialect, became the official written variety. Before the Anglo-Saxons had traveled to Britain, Old Norse was the dominant language in Britain. ‘’Foxas habbað holu and heofonan fuglas nest’’ Is a sentence written in Old English. …show more content…

The most commonly used language to communicate with other countries is English, that is because everyone knows English and know how to both read and write it. English is also used in most fields of work today. An example is engineers. They need English to be able to work. English is the most used language in both business and media. Kids these day are always on their phones and are using the internet, that means that they always around English. Movies and TV-series is a huge part of our youths’ life. Because of English we have come closer to countries on the other side of the world. English will continue to have a big role in todays society because it is a lingua franca. In smaller languages like Norwegian, Swedish and Danish the language is constantly changing, they take in slang words and English words that they just put a Norwegian, Swedish or Danish twist. Some languages are almost completely gone because of English. Most of these languages are only spoken and not written and are therefor more vulnerable to being lost. Other languages take in English and use both languages an example is Spanglish where both English and Spanish is used. Some examples of how that is used is: Aplicación” in place of "solicitud (application), Remover" in place of "quitar" (to remove). Another one is Hinglish which is a mix between English and Hindu. It is the same as in Spanglish where they take a word from Hindu and mix it with English. Many countries around the world have English as there second language, in Norway we have EFL (English as a forging language), because we learn it in school.
The future of English is unknown, but we can indicate that English will remain a lingua franca for a long time. Why that is, is because it is to hard to suddenly change a world language. If it so happens, what language will be the next ruler of the world? In my opinion It is Spanish, not only because it is spoken in many countries around the world,
