My junior year at Kansas State University has been nothing short of monumental. This year has been considerably tougher than the two previously. Mitigating through the minefield that is life can be stressful at times. Fortunately, I have a great network of support and I am indebted to The O’Brate Foundation for being an exceptionally critical guide and resource through my last three years here at Kansas State University. The continued goodwill that The O’Brate Scholarship has financially provided has allowed me to continue my pursuit of higher education and further my career goals. Most importantly, the values and support provided through The O’Brate Scholarship has made a difference in my life that is incalculable! The O’Brate Scholarship has made this positive impact not only through the continual promotion for grade accountability, but also the continual emphasis on financial accountability. Therefore, with great consideration, I have taken the leap next year into renting my own apartment here in Manhattan! Making this next step was in due part …show more content…
Mandi Bunnell, has not only been concerned about making sure I am doing well in school, but has given great advice even when it came to more far-reaching topics such as the cost of housing, my well-being, and even my relationship. I have also continually kept in touch with the network of other O’Brate Scholarship receipts that I have met through the events The O’Brate Foundation holds. This has strengthened me by providing outside knowledge, support, and encouragement from the peer that I have met and networked with! This year has been challenging at time when attempting to balance between college, work, friends, and my relationship. Fortunately, the financial support and resource provided by The O’Brate Foundation has had a tremendous impact in alleviating the stresses and weight that attending a university can
William C. Friday, former President of the University of North Carolina system and a dedicated educator, said of Roy H. Park ‘31, distinguished NC State graduate and namesake of the Park Scholarships: "Always of good humor and with a generous heart, he… [shared] of himself gladly in the service of others." How and why have you shared of yourself in the service of others?
In the beginning of my senior year I was eager to expand my understanding of how it would be to work in a hospital. An opportunity arose allowing me to volunteer in the hospital at the University of Chicago. I was able to volunteer at the children's playroom, which consisted of a weekly commitment. The daily tasks I had to perform where to enlighten the spirits of children and reduce the amount of anxiety that developed within them when they approached a hospital visit. I would play games, read books, or just company the patients at their bedside. I especially love to interact with the younger patients because their laughter and innocence warms my heart up.
I know that through my hard work and dedication I can make my goals a reality. However, it may not be possible without these Scholarships. While my parents will help me in any way they can, I am hoping that my hard work and dedication to my studies pays off. I am a very self-driven individual who will accomplish any goal I set my mind on achieving. I am also aware of how without scholarships I may face a financial setback. I am hoping that through the help of scholarships I will be able to achieve all my goals in a timely
Right now, most of you reading this are twenty somethings with extremely bright futures ahead of you. Many of you were the stars of your high school, if not area, if not state, if not country. Then you got here and things changed. All of a sudden, everything was challenging. From the first moment you got here you were in competition with all the other freshmen for spots in a fraternity, sorority, independent living group, or dorm. You compared SAT scores, compared achievements, and found that they, like you, were amazingly accomplished. Many were National Merit Scholars, AP Scholars, Governor’s School participants, Math Olympiad winners, Science Fair winners, and Scholarship recipients.
Aristotle once said, “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet”. Two thousand years forward, Aristotle’s words has transcended its meaning into this new age. A college education to an incoming freshman is an exorbitant amount of money, but in this day and age, a degree is almost a requisite to be successful. Especially in my situation, since I will need two degrees in order to fulfill my career goals. The Virginia Endly Memorial Scholarship will help me in my first year at Emporia State University by allowing myself not to start adulthood in debt and giving me the ability to focus solely on my education.
As a student that attends UNC Wilmington I understand the monetary factors that must be met in order to attend. Unlike other schools I didn’t receive a merit scholarship to attend and soon realized I didn’t have twenty grand lying around either. Great lengths were met in order for me to even be able to register for class. The first step I ha...
As I sit in Strozier Library at Florida State University putting the finish touches on this paper, I realize all of the events that have brought me up to this point. I’m thankful for my family’s constant catechizing of FSU because I realize I made the right choice; this is where I’m meant to be. From the football games to my cousin’s graduation I’m glad to be a part of a family legacy and look forward to continuing it with my own children.
It was during my second year of high school that I first heard of the Pruitt Memorial Scholarship. I suddenly felt hope for my future. Hope that I would be able to attend college, and hope that I would be given the chance to fight for my very large dreams. My passion is theatre and my goal is that someday I will be able to teach others about my passion and spread the magic of theatre around the world, but to be able to do that requires lots of education. The Pruitt Memorial Scholarship opened the door for me to pursue this dream. Now, I just had to acquire the scholarship, and that meant performing volunteer community-service.

Being a first generation student, my parents always emphasized the importance of school and the many opportunities I have, that they never had growing up. I remember looking at some universities’ tuitions my sophomore year and wondered, “how can anyone afford to pay this much?” Although at first just the thought of college scared me, I knew I couldn’t accomplish anything, much less pay for college, being scared. Listening to my parents’ advice, I decided to embrace the opportunities I was given, including this scholarship. Even though, applying does not guarantee me this scholarship or any for that matter, it is a risk I am willing to take and an opportunity I am not willing to
Additionally, I will be graduating Summa Cum Laude as I currently have a 4.18 GPA. I have also been recognized on the Dean’s List for fall 2016, spring 2017, and fall 2017, and I am a member of the Alpha Iota Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, and Golden Key Honor Societies. In January I was nominated for membership to the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society by the faculty of the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts. In addition to my honor society memberships, I am the humble recipient of the William D. Kavan Political Science Scholarship ($575 – March, 2017), ASU Retirees Association Scholarship ($5,000 - April, 2017), and the American Indian Graduate Center Wells Fargo Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship ($5,000 – August, 2017). With this in mind, I owe a debt of gratitude for the incredible generosity of these donors, and I intend to become a donor for future ASU students upon graduating and settling into my teaching career.
I will pursue finance because I can’t imagine doing anything else. I deserve this scholarship because I’ve devoted the past three and a half years of my life to serving this school. Earning the top of my class and staying there for seven semesters speaks to my work ethic, and I extend that commitment to my extracurriculars. Between my involvement in MCJROTC and my time writing and editing for the Rocket Times, I’ve never known what it’s like to leave school at 3:05. Whether I’m waking up at 5 a.m. for battalion formation or I’m coming to school on Saturday to finish the newspaper, I’ve put in the hours.
I owe my life to Jesus Christ and the ministers of faith that he placed in my path. Their light led me from the darkness of depression into the light of God’s will. Through this transition, I was instilled with a determination to give my life in service to others out of compassion for the silent cries of the oppressed. I thank you for this opportunity to present myself as a candidate for a loan forgiveness scholarship, as it would prove conducive to completing my education in a timely manner. Celebrate with me as I share three miracles that have shaped my future in ministry.
The advancement of information and communication technologies over the past decade, particularly the growth of the Internet, the World Wide Web (Web), and email, have had an impact on how scholarship is conducted and are re-defining many aspects of scholarly communication. Interdisciplinarity, collaboration, and disintermediation are three aspects of scholarly communication that are on the increase as a result of the advancement of information and communication technology. The trend towards increased interdisciplinary and collaborative scholarship, combined with the disintermediation of traditional journal publishers and publishing as more scholarship is made directly available electronically, make the evaluation of scholarship more difficult. This paper will briefly examine these trends, the advancement of new technology, and how they may effect the evaluation of scholarship.
