Why I Deserve This Scholarship

Applying to colleges has reignited my desire to reach Little Rock’s escape velocity. I’m ready to trade green trees and hiking trails for skyscrapers and digital billboards. Adjusting won’t be easy at first, but I trust that I’ll adapt quickly. Manhattan is where I belong. I am determined to find myself working on Wall Street one way or another. I will pursue finance because I can’t imagine doing anything else.
I deserve this scholarship because I’ve devoted the past three and a half years of my life to serving this school. Earning the top of my class and staying there for seven semesters speaks to my work ethic, and I extend that commitment to my extracurriculars. Between my involvement in MCJROTC and my time writing and editing for the Rocket Times, I’ve never known what it’s like to leave school at 3:05. Whether I’m waking up at 5 a.m. for battalion formation or I’m coming to school on Saturday to finish the newspaper, I’ve put in the hours. This …show more content…

During the second semester of my sophomore year, I’ll apply to Virginia's undergraduate business program at the McIntire School of Commerce. At McIntire, I’ll take an accounting concentration and earn my B.S. in commerce. I want to leverage my degree and the networking opportunities at McIntire so that I can secure a front office role at a bulge bracket bank, preferably in mergers and acquisitions. My ultimate goal is to work in private equity. Buying companies in order to improve and sell them at a profit excites me. Private equity would expose me to a variety of different industries, and I’d play a part as a long-term investor in assisting other companies’ growth. Achieving this scholarship could act as the catalyst for my goals. Instead of worrying about paying for books, I could worry about converting a summer internship into a full-time employment offer.
