One thing that might make me a unique nursing school candidate is the fact that I already work in the healthcare system. For over two years, I have been a member of the Rehabilitation Services department at Loyola University Medical Center (LUMC). Although this is only my first job in healthcare, it has been such a great experience that I am convinced that this is the right career for me. Going forward, my goal is to help as many patients and provide the best care I can muster as a healthcare professional. I see the Loyola ABSN program not as a career change, but rather as an opportunity to increase my knowledge, skills, and responsibility in the healthcare system. As a nurse, I would be eager to serve my patients, organization, and profession as an advocate and leader.
I first became interested in nursing through my experience as a rehabilitation technician for LUMC’s main hospital. Although I am part of the therapy department, I also work with nursing staff on a daily basis. As a result, I have grown to admire the nurse’s active role in patient care. One the most satisfying parts of my career is meeting patients and guiding them along their journey. As a nurse, I will be able to continue to work closely with patients and families. Another thing that draws me to the profession is its varied and challenging work. I welcome a career

Whether it’s in the hospital, nursing home, emergency department, clinic, or operating room, the nursing profession provides for every type of personality and skill set. After earning my RN licensure, I may be interested in working in the acute care setting first because it closely mimics what I do in healthcare now. However, I would be eager to explore the other avenues of nursing as well. Wherever I land, my main priority would be to develop the skills and knowledge that can apply to all nursing

With this goal in mind, the University of Pennsylvania is the ideal school for me to explore and master this field of knowledge.
Advanced practice registered nurses play a significant part in extending access to health care by providing primary care and specialty care services to clients. I am compelled to put other people’s needs before my own. I can contribute my personal qualities to this course of being dedicated and determined into committing myself to this 3 year course and excelling academically. Personally, caring for my mother with high blood pressure made me interested in the world of medicine. This long term sickness inspired me to gain more experience outside of the home and volunteer which confirmed that this was the right course for me. I am fascinated by the practical aspect that the course involves as well as the theoretical
In 6th grade, I was diagnosed with a thyroid issue. I went through multiple procedures to find the origin of this issue and see if it was cancer. Although it was not cancer, I still was in and out of the hospital. It was the scariest moment of my ten year old self. I dreaded being in a hospital.
My intended goal after graduating from high school in just a couple of months is to be enrolled at Santa Ana community college where I will be taking my general education classes, and enlisting into a nursing program in order to obtain my associates degree in nursing. The intensity of the care and challenges presented at the job excite and motivate me. However, I’m willing to start on a general floor such as medical-surgical to better prepare myself. I plan to obtain the certificate in the specialty of my choosing as soon as I fulfill the clinical hour requirement for application. After acquiring enough nursing experience, I would like to complete my Doctorate of Nursing degree to become a nurse practitioner with a specialty in Critical Care. I plan to stay current on education by taking courses, attending conferences, obtaining certifications, as well as joining meaningful nursing organizations. I have a strong background in research as evident in working as a research assistant in graduate school and my current involvement in a research project with Dr. Lisa Bradzke for Honor’s Program. My research skills will facilitate my learning process by providing the best evidence based strategies and practices for nursing issues. Completing this goal will not only advance my career, but also expand my effectiveness as a competent
