For me, there was no divine intervention, no following in the footsteps of an admired family member, but actually a growing passion for nursing and realizing it would be the perfect career for me. I believe that my main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from an instinctive desire to help and care for people in their time of need. I am the type of person who loves to be challenged and I always need a new goal to achieve, so nursing and its growing field will always give me new challenges and the ability to care for people. I have been blessed with meeting a few nurses that have become close friends of mine and inspired me to continue my pursuit in the nursing field.

But there is so much more to nursing than the simple definition given to us. Nursing is an especially rewarding career. Nurses not only care for people through illness but also promote health, prevent disease, and educate people on safe ways to live. “All nurses have at least one thing in common – they want to help people. Nursing isn’t the career to have just to earn a paycheck because there are plenty of other jobs out there with bigger paychecks. Nurses take on the role of caretaker, friend, confidante, and even trusted advisor. The July 26th encounter leading to Alex Wubbels’ arrest began when she refused to allow Salt Lake City Detective, Jeff Payne, to draw blood from an unconscious patient who had been involved in an intense car crash in Cache County earlier that day. Nurse Wubbels pointed out that the victim was not under arrest, the detective had no warrant, and it was against hospital policy to draw the blood of an unconscious person who had not given any sort of consent. Detective Payne then arrested Wubbels for protecting her patient and following hospital policy. No charges were filed against her. I remember watching this video for the first time and thinking “Wow, do I really want to be a nurse? That’s absolutely terrifying. I would never want this to happen to me.” Everyone wants to feel safe and secure in their job and that goodness there was a good outcome for Alex Wubbels. Another major issue in the nursing field in the pay gap between male and female nurses. It is estimated that male nurses are paid about $5,000 more than female nurses, annually. This is one field I’d expect women to be paid more in, and they’re not. The last issues that is concerning for me is consistent short staffing and long hours. I can see why that would be a controversy for many nurses. Always being short staffed and adding long hours to that could cause major issues such as nurses going on strike or
