Karl Marx once said, “History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.” As a member of Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, I would like to establish a young scholars league, in the elementary schools, where I can assign small portions of Bayonne histories to each chapter for them to promote it to their schools by having small assemblies. In addition, I can advertise Bayonne High School’s history department by explaining the advantages of participating in the various programs available in this district, such as explaining student accomplishments such as students winning numerous awards in history competitions, and getting scholarships from different universities, and encourage to take the rigorous courses offered within this school. I have also communicates with …show more content…
By appealing to younger generations, I can attract numerous students to a field that they might have not perceived as an interesting. In committing to such tasks, I can help create a great community that is accepting to all people and non prejudice to others. Most of the tasks stated above were discussed with Mr. Ward, Dr. Wanko, Dr. Degnan and 3 of my colleagues. The more knowledge and leave we leave in our community, the more likely, future generations will help advance our grand history and make this community a stronger and more accepting community. The one major thing, I would like to do is creating elementary school chapters, possibly by using the National Junior Honor Society Students, and having them do a presentation on a little aspect of Bayonne History, and then present it at a community event, where they will be judged and the best schools get awards. This will encourage them to do better and the competition will help bring awareness to Bayonne history. They can also discuss about social issues that are present today, and bring instances in history where such things occurred and how it was
Thank you for considering me for induction into the James Monahan Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. I have been looking to join this society ever since I heard about it and have been trying my best so I can. I believe that I demonstrate the qualities of service, leadership, and character and would be a great addition to the National Junior Honor Society.
I was very excited when I heard that I had been invited into National Junior Honors Society. The first time I heard of NJHS, it instantly became a goal of mine. When my older sister left for college I was very sad, so I think that this is a way for me to keep a part of her. I have always been that little girl no one understood, because I’m always very excited to learn and get back to school after summer break. I’m very happy to see that I’ve been invited, but this is why I should be accepted.
For my Cultural Plunge, I participated with Project Excell (Extending College Education for Lifelong Learning). This is a group that meets on campus, in the union, every Saturday morning from 9:00-11:00 AM. Each participant has a developmental disability and they come from various places around Manhattan. Project Excell offers around 4 different classes for the participants to choose from, which range from dancing/theatre to the history of Nigeria. After completing a “session,” the participants go through a graduation ceremony and then begin a different type of class for the next few weeks. I joined this group as a student ambassador, who assists the classroom teachers while building relationships with and tending to the needs of the participants.
In January of 2018, the Franklin County 4-H Teen Council transpired for the first time in nearly 5 years. The overall mission of the club is simple: 4-Hers working together for the betterment of 4-H, the members, and the community. Some may question, "How will the club accomplish these goals?"
Entering high school with little knowledge of seemed impossible to reach the level of National Honor Society but I set my mind the right way, move from regular classes to Advance Placement classes had lots of sleepless nights but I came out successful in the end, to reach my dreams of becoming a member of the National Honor Society and make them a reality. By reaching the National Honor Society I can show my family how strong I am, that I will be someone successful in the future. The best part of achieving the requirements for the National Honor Society was to accomplish the amount of community service hours. I attended the Relay For Life event, an American Cancer Society, on the behalf of the Amnesty International Laredo Branch. I experienced
Through help and guidance from caring adult volunteers, youth learn not only about their 4-H project areas but also about citizenship, healthy living and leadership.
Tyler arrives at home from school on a Monday morning. Tyler goes to the kitchen to finish his math homework. Tyler’s mom calls him to her room. Dana asks Tyler to go and get her drugs. Tyler refuses to help his mom buy drugs. After Tyler finishes his math homework, he calls up his friends to hang out. Tyler’s friends are Jim, Tom and Layla. Tyler and his friends go to the park to hang out. Tyler tells his friends about his mom. Tyler’s friends think his mom is insane because she does drugs. They have the right to have the interpretation of Tyler’s mom.
I strongly believe that it is important to train up our youth within our communities because the youth will one day be our future leaders. I have made it a personal mission of mine to become heavily involved both on campus and back in my community with leadership positions so I can hone my skills and began to develop leaders and mentor those under me. At Shippensburg University I have participated in numerous programs such as new student panels, I served as the Multi-Cultural & Diversity student senator, and held workshops at four leadership conferences through Shippensburg University. Back in my community I have been working with the Boys & Girls Club of America for the past seven years, two as a volunteer and five as a worker. Through all these positions of leadership I have found that a vast majority of youth or first year students have never thought about college or once getting accepted and upon their arrival have no idea what to expect. This is one problem that I have
The principal believes this will be a rewarding experience for the students. This will give them the opportunity to help the community. Also, they will be helping the less fortunate citizens. He believes it will make them feel good that they are helping.
I have realized through packing backpacks filled with school supplies, collecting non-perishable items, making food for Teacher Appreciation Day, organizing dinners for Thanksgiving, and holding clothes drives for children in the midst of winter creates experiences that can enrich people's lives. These endless situations make me want to invite my whole dorm and as many others as possible to make benevolent impacts on the Villanova campus and
It took me eighteen years to realize what an extraordinary influence my mother has been on my life. She' s the kind of person who has thoughtful discussions about which artist she would most want to have her portrait painted by (Sargent), the kind of mother who always has time for her four children, and the kind of community leader who has a seat on the board of every major project to assist Washington' s impoverished citizens. Growing up with such a strong role model, I developed many of her enthusiasms. I not only came to love the excitement of learning simply for the sake of knowing something new, but I also came to understand the idea of giving back to the community in exchange for a new sense of life, love, and spirit.
Extracurricular activities have been essential in my life as a high school student. One of the numerous activities that I have been involved in throughout high school has been the Student Ambassador Club. In this club, students are chosen for outstanding grades and are recommended by the school’s staff. Beginning in freshman year when I was first nominated, I served at many events such as open houses and school assemblies. For instance, every year the Student Ambassador Club administers grandparents’ day for the elementary students at my school. My job was to lead the grandparents to their designated grandchild’s classroom. In addition, every year in February my school hosts the largest open house of the year. My responsibility is to give each
In the summer of my junior year of high school, I attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards conference held at Westminster college. To this date, the time I spent at this conference was the most explementary time I have ever had. When I arrived at the conference, I honestly had no idea what to expect and really only went for the scholarship opportunities available. On the car ride to Westminster, I had the sickest feeling of nausea in my stomach, dreading to arrive. I assumed it would just be another lecture filled week of boredom. However, I soon learned, I could not have been more wrong. From the moment I stepped out of the car, I was showered with kindness and a real feeling of peace. At RYLA, as it’s often abbreviated, there was not a
This is something that we try to do after every Friday night sporting event that is played at home in Sedgwick, KS. We named these events “Overtime”. The leadership that I have with this group includes coming up with ideas for activities at the event, planning and asking others to help to provide tasty food for students and writing a positive message that is discussed for a few minutes at the beginning of each Overtime. I do my best to promote and encourage other students to participate in these. It is something that I try and encourage more student participation by explaining to students in all high school grades about it so they understand what LEGIT stands for. It is a group where you can feel comfortable about yourself and can be with others who want to live above the influence as well. This is something that has been progressively growing in my home town for many years. I have been in this group for four years and have put forth my best effort to make LEGIT something even
So, I began to volunteer my time with the young, the old, and those with special needs as well as supporting events varying from Wheelchair Basketball competitions to senior homes to environmental initiatives.. During my volunteer with the REaDY Summit, I was also a student mentor for two years udner the CHIMO Community Services Stepping Out Program. For two years, I helped educate four 30 student grade 7 classes about anti-bullying and helped them cultivate practical coping techniques in five weekly sessions. Big Brothers Big Sister’s in school meeting program. My mentee and I engaged in with each other through boardgames, crafts and group activities with other mentees and mentors. As a mentor, I helped students recognize their own potential and the importance of giving and giving back. It is
