My Writing Skills Essay

How are you Mrs. Griffin? I was just sitting and reading the old assignments that I did a year ago. I couldn't stop thinking about how much I hated writing until you taught me the basic skill of plotting everything down on a piece of paper before I start writing. I have finally adopted a habit that helps me write and think over my topic before I even pick up the pen. Whenever I get an assignment, I always have to read over the assignment a couple of times before I even understand it. For example, our class midterm portfolio assignment -I had no idea on how would I start my letter and to whom I would write. I grabbed the assignment paper and walked around the house a couple of times reading it over and over again so I would not miss anything …show more content…

I have always loved to write, but I do have some writing deficiencies. My weakness has always been my grammar and punctuation in every piece of writing that I have done, from1st grade to high school, and now in college. Whenever I get my graded paper back and see that I have lost 3 to 5 points on the rubric, most of the time it is over the smallest mistakes. I get really upset afterwards, but I always acknowledge my mistakes and am willing to seek help, so that I can improve my weaknesses. I have seen a huge improvement in my grammar and punctuation ever since I started to fix my graded papers. I am understanding why a sentence may have needed a comma or is missing a coordinating conjunction, which have been my common mistakes. Some of my other writing weaknesses that I have had in the past are now my strengths. For example, including details was one of the hardest things in writing for me, also not understanding what I should put in my writing and what not to put. Every time I would write, I could never explain my wording on a paper or even express my feelings. After a few years of improvement, I have grown out of that weakness, and it has become one of my strengths that everyone loves in my writing. I really feel proud of how much I have grown and seeing the improvements. Soon I’ll start seeing 100% A+ on my papers and look back at my grammar and
