Nowadays there are many people who are going back to study, whether it be improving career possibilities or to change career paths. Therefore, people need to develop different types of study skills to help throughout their learning. In this essay I will be describing a few study skills that could be useful in the path to success during my own studies. I will also be explaining how I will be implementing them into my studies. Also, I will be identify two challenges that I may face during my studies and explaining a few steps that I will use to address them. Being motivated is an important to being successful in studying. Cottrell (2003) suggests that, you would need to have a high level of motivation to help you stay focused and find ways to help you through any problems that may occur during studying. For instance, I will be using many steps to help me implement this skill into my studies. Sometimes you will just have to use the mind frame of just do it to motivate or you may need to create a strategy to help you. A strategy that I will use to help increase my motivation is by rewarding myself for studying, for example, once I have finished the required goals for my day I can go watch an episode of my favourite show. Another strategy to help me with my studies would be to create a motivational poster. This would be a poster placed in my study area that includes positive words, quotes and pictures that will help motivate me to be successful. Finally, reminding myself of the long term goal and what I want to achieve will help with my motivation. NZTC (2015) states that stress is one of the biggest factor that can affect a student’s study this is due to the pressure of the high demand of their time. Being stressed affects you mentally, socially and physically and have many negative side effects a few of these are exhaustion, headaches, sleeplessness and loss of appetite. Stress isn’t good for your health or well-being, this is why it is important to identify any causes of stress and to have strategies that will help manage stress. Going to the doctor for advice, searching the internet and seeking help from student support are some of the strategies that can help you deal with stress. (NZTC, 2015) There are many different steps that you can use to help reduce stress the only problem is finding the right ones for you. One of those steps that I will be using, is to break down your work load into smaller tasks that are manageable and can be prioritized easily. Another of the steps could be to use physical activities to help work off stress, or I could use yoga and breathing exercises to help control stress and helps you to relax. Most importantly, I should talk to someone, whether it be a family member or a friend, I can even talk to the Student Support Team if stress is affecting your
