My Writing Experience

Writing can be frustrating also challenging for many people; When given the task, some may become frustrated. The reason for their frustration may be due to not being able to communicate the words that are in their mind on paper. It is believed that writing can be challenging for some people because of its sequential and concurrent components such as idea generation, encoding text, and editing (Dunn, 2011). There was a time when I thought that I was a “good enough writer”. After all, it would only count when I am taking English and Literature classes and then I would not have to use it in my chosen career. I was in for a rude awakening when I discovered that I write daily and it does count.
When I took my first College level writing course, I completed my assignment with ease. I believed that I had pretty good writing skills and will do well. When I received my grade after I completed my assignment, I went into “panic mode”. I was scared to even attempt to do the next assignment. I became anxious in a bad way about writing. That is when I realized that there were more to writing than just putting simple words on paper. I had a hard time expressing myself. I knew what was in my mind and what I wanted to say, but I had a hard time expressing myself and putting it down where it would make sense to the reader. I read about free writing and begin practicing it. Free writing is writing without a purpose. In free writing, you can write whatever ideas that comes to your mind (VanderMey, Meyer, Van Rys, and Sebranek, 2012). I like free writing because I can put my thoughts down without being penalized for it. Then I can go back and make sense out of what I wrote. I use free writing almost as my “rough
