The soft clay of my personality has slowly been shaped by the hands of events, challenges, and relationships. In the fourteen years of slow molding, one place and two relationships have shaped me drastically. As my home moved from place to place, my relationships with peers bent the clay of my character in many ways. Later, as I visited a remote island near Antarctica, a new passion was born. Every step of the way through hundreds of places and dozens of people, the relationship with my mom has been there, changing how thousands of other experiences affect me. After fourteen years, those three changing forces have surfaced as the most notable in my past. My relationships with peers were some of the parts of my life that changed me the most. …show more content…
There is one place that has had the most effect on me. It is called South Georgia. South Georgia is an island near Antarctica. At 56 degrees south, it is in the thick of the antarctic weather systems. It is a mountainous island covered in glaciers, tussock grass, and massive quantities of wildlife. Hundreds of thousands of penguins, seals, albatross, and other birds seek refuge there to raise young, molt, or just take a break. In order to get there, we had to sail through hurricane force winds, massive icebergs, and thirty foot waves. When we sailed into the comforting embrace of the first protective bay, I felt a surge of accomplishment. In the following month, I saw the real wild. I saw a place where animals were just as curious about me as I was about them. In that place, I developed a love for nature and challenge. Just being there was a challenge that made me feel like I was earning it. We were battered by powerful winds at night making us stay up through many nights. By day we were rewarded with gentle breezes and beautiful weather. We ate canned food that all tasted the same and were rewarded by picking a delicious local salad that tasted like heaven on a plate. We hiked steep mountains till our legs ached and our feet were blistered. At the top all we got was a good view, sometimes clouded over, and a sense of accomplishment. From that point forward, I have wanted to see amazing natural phenomenons that I earned through physical as well as mental challenges. A desire for earning through challenges fuels me
Daniel also provides extensive imagery during this paragraph to help the reader visualize themselves and build curiosity, leaving the reader wondering what they would see and feel if they were also to climb that rock face. Overall, the paragraph contributes a powerful personal experience to Daniel’s argument to experience nature actively.
Being in the wild is a great experience, it opens doors and bridges inside one’s mind. It allows people to be inspired, to find hope. It gives people a sense of direction and helps people conquer challenges that they never thought they would achieve. The example left behind by a young man named Christopher McCandless in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer demonstrates how living on the road and surviving off the land can prove to be a pilgrimage and help enlighten others to go out in search of their own philosophical ideals. Whether it is being away from home and travel all across America, not settling down in one place, but staying long enough in one place and have an affect on someone else, or being with your family hiking up a mountain and be able to look at the scenery that nature brought forth.
Outside of education, my hobbies have extended the experiences I have developed in Geography. On a recent fieldtrip I investigated the impact of skiing on the landscape at Mont Lozère Ski Resort in the Cévennes, Southern France. I found this research particularly interesting as I could consider my own impact at locations where I have skied. In addition to this, my keen interest in rock climbing has given me the chance to climb outdoors in locations such as the Honister Slate Mine Via Ferrata in the Lake District, reaffirming me of my love of the outdoors and desire to understand the

Throughout our lives we will always find in ourselves patterns of the men and women that raised us. Next, when we are finally able to branch our innocent eyes onto larger horizons, we meet our peers, who will become our precious friends. They will hold our hands on our first days of new adventures, and wipe our tears when our delicate worlds are rocked. Some will be our friends of the moment, and some will stand by our sides, on our sports teams, on our graduations, at our weddings, and during our retirements.

When I was a little girl my Grandfather, who we called Peepaw, had a beautiful log cabin nestled in the mountains of Ellijay, Georgia. It was the perfect ideal getaway, and this was where our family spent the majority of our time together. Even though it was not home it always felt like it when you were there. To me, it was such a beautiful and peaceful place. My Grandfather's cabin was filled with joy, serenity, love, and good memories, in an otherwise fast pace world.
There have been many influential people and events that have come into my life for the better, and changed me completely as a person. However, one experience that I believe was a turning point and a great influence in my life was when I changed schools in the third grade. Going to a new school with friendly people and a wide range of opportunities allowed me to become more confident in myself and in turn changed my life for the better. At the first school I attended, I was very shy and unsure of myself.
It was not just the place but the journey itself that was so amazing. In the three days on ship I met people from several cultures and was exposed to life in another
Everyone has a special place that people will never forget. Sometimes it is because there were places that people experienced great joy or comfort. A special place represents peoples’ special memories either good or bad. Memory will following people whole life, and store people’s heart deeper. Good memory will coming all time. My special place and my memory is my grandparent’s house; my grandparent’s house practically is my second home. I would never forget that special place because of things going on my grandparent’s house, which is symbolized by my grandparent’s love.
This place is meaningful to me because it is part of the county I loved, is part of the county where I grew up and is part of my childhood. This place is in the country in an old region named Appalachia, a small piece of the Appalachian Mountains, in a town named Pikeville.
