How many times have you seen people sitting on the road, looking longingly at the scrumptious food in restaurants? All these people are probably earning their living picking trash. These people were not given the same privileges as we were. Wouldn’t it be a ecstatic sight to see these people live their life the way they wanted? My role in the society is to bring these people equality by helping these people in whatever ways I can. I want to get rid of unreasonable discrimination in society. I can use certain methods to do this.
Being a student, my primary responsibility is towards my education and school community. Studies are not the predominant purpose of school. A school also develops a person’s moral compass that will help them navigate through the social pitfalls of life. The best place to start applying these morals is at school itself. To maintain a good community, we should accept others for who they are and leave no space for discrimination. My school community consists of a diverse range of nationalities and isolating myself with people of a specific culture is an unfavourable act. Without prejudice, mutual respect exists. It is the dominant aspect to forming a stable foundation for a peer relationship. Holding equal significance for each other keeps everyone’s mind free from insecurity. Take for example, there are students in school who excel academically and treat the mediocre students as inferior to themselves. This cold behavior will make them think lowly of themselves.These students will hesitate from attending school since they will be afraid of insult. I can start a social media campaign encouraging people to donate money to help erect career opportunities and training for the poor and disenfranchised. This may spark up some other spirits interested in social service and it will benefit the impoverished greatly.
A society is like a human body. All organs have to work in symbiosis for the body to function. If one of them is neglected, the whole body will suffer. My role in the society is to be the immune system and fight the disease of inequality that is strengthened by hatred and arrogance. It is because of ego why poor people are treated like fleas. If we have had an opportunity in our life to achieve our dreams, why not share it with others? If everybody plays their part in fighting this disease, we will defeat it.

I feel it is important to recognize one’s own heritage and race and values, but I also feel at times it is equally important to detach one’s self from such in order to allow for one to be exposed to new perspectives and alternative ways of life.
Family’s beliefs and values may be different for some and in other cultures they may not be accepted. As teachers, we have to learn about different cultures and expand our knowledge so families could feel more accepted. In the book, Anti- Bias Education for young children and ourselves by Louise Derman-Sparks & Julie Olsen Edwards, talks about how culture and fairness involves two dimensions, children’s development of a positive culture, identity, and their respectful interactions with other cultures. With these two dimensions, it will help the child to continue to express their home culture at school while learning the different cultures at school with their classmates. As Powell asserts, “a culturally responsive classroom climate is safe…characterized by respect and care. Teachers establish trusting relationships that allow students to take risks.” In addition, Richard claims, “When students are subjected to unfair discrimination…the result can be low achievement.” Therefore, a central task of teachers is to create a classroom environment in which all students feel fairly treated as respected.
Therefore, teachers teach the whole child since they maintain cultural identity of a student not only do they emphasize on the importance of academic achievement. Consequently, when promoting academic community for students, teachers play a role in responding effectively to the learners needs (Gay, 2000).
Social psychology, as defined by the Microsoft Bookshelf, is the branch of human psychology that deals with the behavior of groups and the influence of social factors on the individual. Social roles are one of the many sub - categories of social psychology. I believe social roles to be the way we, as individuals, act in certain situations; such as home life, educational and economic statue, peer groups, etc. The Prison Simulation by Haney, Banks & Zimbardo is just one of the vast studies in this area. In this study we will see how people take roles in life, and in simulated life situations. Social roles are not fictitious, it is in fact a very real occurrence that many people deal with ever day, whether it be with them selves or with other individuals.
Diversity in classrooms can open student’s minds to all the world has to offer. At times diversity and understanding of culture, deviant experiences and perspectives can be difficult to fulfill, but with appropriate strategies and resources, it can lead students gaining a high level of respect for those unlike them, preferably than a judgmental and prejudiced view.
I believe our responsibility begins the minute we feel our American pride for the first time. For some, it is watching the Olympics and seeing our country’s elite dominating all competition. For others, it is watching a tower crumble to the ground on American soil based an act of hatred. For me, it was in third grade at a Veteran’s Day assembly. We all had practiced our songs a million times and made sure we were on our best behavior. The assembly began, I do not recall anything up until the end when the lights went dark, The words, “The red is for the blood, The blue is for the bruise” began to be sung, followed by a video.I had heard the song hundreds of times, not truly paying attention to what the words meant, but this time when it was sung, I felt the pride that so many Americans feel for their country. No longer can we lack awareness that diversity issues exist within people, groups, and society in general. Lacking knowledge and understanding about what diversity issues mean to the Adult student can have possible consequences that may diminish ability to be competitive in today’s society. When we talk about diversity issues with respect to andragogy learners, I am referring to the kinds of things that influences, distort conditions, and sets of circumstances that adversely affect their ability to learn. Some facilitators refer to the extra burdens that learners carry as barriers to acquiring knowledge. Adults bring those barriers with them. The nature of these barriers and the level of impact it has on the learner has considerable influence on the ability to succeed in a class. Though it can be prevented, students at a primary school level are known to less likely to see race and gender as something inferior. Students also accept what is being taught without formulating personal opinions or political views. According to the Census Bureau, “by the year 2100, the U.S. minority population will become the majority with non-Hispanic whites making up only 40% of the U.S. population” (“How important is cultural diversity at your school?”). It is crucial for students to develop cultural awareness and are engaging in the acts of citizenship, not only within schools and surrounding areas but as active members of the global community. What is society and how did it help shape me into the person I am today? First, society is the state of living in organized groups of people. These organized groups of people are the ones that made me who I am today and will continue to shape me, as I grow older. My version of society is white middle class people who grow up going to catholic schools. These white middle class people are only associated with other white middle class people, and very seldom venture out of this little society. As stupid as that sounds to not associate with other people it is true. The reason this is true is because of where I live, where I go to school, and who my friends are. I guess it is just like Emerson said, “the virtue in most request is conformity.” So, the three social forces that have played the biggest impact on my life are my community, my friends (family) and my education.
Culture is a powerful influence plays a big role in our interactions. Culture may also impact parenting style and a developing child. Having a strong sense of their own cultural history and the traditions associated with it helps children build a positive cultural identity for themselves. This also supports children’s sense of belonging and, by extension, their mental health and wellbeing. This class is crucial in understanding and working well parents, staff, and children. An effective educator understands how students’ cultures affect their perceptions, self-esteem, values, classroom behavior, and learning.
