Over the past week, I have been given more responsibility assistant wise, I feel as if my teachers throughout this month have begun to trust me more. Three tasks I have accomplished was doing laundry for the first time at the center, one of my co-teachers tasked me with putting the sheets and blankets in the washer/dryer. Although it seems like a minimal task it felt good to learn how they do it. Another task is now doing afternoon circle in the Stingrays classroom. 9/10 times I spend my afternoons in the Stingrays room and the teacher has given me the responsibility of doing afternoon circle with the kids. The kids had done these cute art projects and with the experience, I have from Shop I managed to create two separate and creative boards just to help showcase what the kids can do. Overall these tasks helped me to become a better teacher and helped me creatively develop. One piece of constructive feedback I received this week was during a pick up of a child, I was on my way to a class and the parent asked me to let their child know that they were here. I told the child and since the infant room where his mom and little brother were was right across the hall I told him to go ahead. The teacher in that classroom informed that even though I had seen the mom before, and I knew who she was the teacher still needs to see the mom before he can pick her some up. She was very understanding about it and although I did feel bad she assured me that it was an innocent mistake and just to be more cautious in the
After I finished my observation I learned lot things I hadn’t realized by how they interacted with each other. I've been around children before but never analyzed their behavior or explained it using psychology. I have a newfound appreciation and sympathy for elementary school teachers, the kids still have a lot of cognitive developments growth to do and it takes a benevolent person to do such a work. Overall I found the experience fascinating and enlightening.
This week, I followed up with the girls who went to the activity the District offered last Friday. We talked about their goals and the things they are doing in order to meet them. I emailed the lady who did the speech and we are trying to set up a second meeting, so the girls can talk to her again. This week, I had to deal with a lot of drama with another group of girls. I believe since it is April and the school year is almost over, they are under a lot of stress and that is the reason they keep getting in trouble. Last week, the student got their grades report, so I went over their grade and we worked on the grades they need to improve. I then asked him if the youth center has ever considered asking for donations to go towards their funding, and if so what came as a result? He responded by stating that the youth center has indeed received donations in the past from various individuals, none of which though are large enough to have a lasting impact on the organization. Although “they did help ease some of the problems at the time being.”
1. I think the most common way I see the teachers helping the children is by being a role model. Showing the kids how to act towards peers and authrity figures. Kids are very intuative, they pick up on things very easy. So if you showing the children respect the kids will take that with them and show respect to others. I noticed anytime a child was having problems one of the teachers would always get down to their level and talk to them, making sure to make eye contact and not to talk above them but instead to talk to them. Asking the child if something was bothering them and just working on focusing on that child and respecting how they felt really seemed to help the kid to mellow out and realize that arguing and pushing to get what he wants isnt the best way to handle things. After the teacher talked to him I noticed he was being more polite to other children and even ofering to share his toys with other kids he was previously arguing with. I think it also helped that not only was the teacher respecting the child but she was doing it in a loving way. She wasnt acting like she was better than the child or knew more she was just listening and talking to him on his level. I think it helps to model acceptiable behavior but to also do it in a loving way. Watching the teachers respect each other and work with each other to better the classroom, listening and working off each other advice about certain problems, or changes they think might need to be made. Having the teachers work together and respect each others advice and imput shows the kids how to work with their peers.
I really liked hearing everyone different situations in daycares because they gave resources I could use if I was having the same problem as them. I also got a better understanding of how kids don’t like to play with each other, but more so play next to each other. I always knew that was going on, but I never noticed it or knew how important it was until this class. This class also gave me a better understanding of how important is to be an active teacher and keep my personal life separate from my work life. We are here for the kids, it is our job to be there for them and give them the attention that they require. I shouldn’t let something that happened in my personal life impact how I do my job. It is my responsibility to be presence with the kids and play with them. They are little, it is okay to act as silly and goofy as possible when it is appropriate. There is also nothing wrong with singing with them even if I am a terrible singer. The kids are going to join in, and once they see me doing it, they are going to want to join it. Knowing all this helped me understand that it is okay to be myself in front of the kids because they are going to accept

Aimee used small word cards and got each children to read the word of their card this was to help them with their reading as it says on the planning. After the observation the three of us sat down and spoke about what Aimee’s strengths and weaknesses are this will be put into her CPD to carry on during school time. Discussion points with Supervisor During the time of feedback I asked Aimee how she thought the observation went Aimee was able to give point of where she thought she did well but she was able to pick up on areas that she could develop.
After I told her she looked at me with a look of disappointment. I was already feeling bad because it tetchily was my fault and I did not need her to add to it but she still did.
I gave the kids activities, provided the children with crayons and blank papers to look at the list of food and draw a picture of the healthy foods choices. The class was provided a copy of my power point presentation and resources. I needed the class, adults as well as children, to have a copy of the presentation so they can follow along. Overall this was a great experience for me, even though I must admit that I was a little nervous because teaching in public is not really my area of expertise, but it was a great experience and this experience will really help me moving forward. At first I was a little nervous about what they would think of me and how would I help in their classroom. My favorite part of everyday was the recess with the students. I could play basketball, soccer, football, and more with all the children and I got to see the real side of them. All of the children seemed like they were having a amazing time there everyday. They were very respected by always calling me Mr. Whitehead, and they also looked very formal with their shirt tails always tucked in.
She didn’t know how to react to what I told her but my guy friend found out and he was very angry with me, I didn’t know why I did that but I had the feeling she needed to know, I was very sorry for what I did to my guy friend. They talked it over and it was a little awkward between them but they stayed friends and my guy friend forgave me.
Grading the activity up/down was crucial in order to meet the children where they are at (mentally and physically). Although keeping the students attention was difficult at times, interacting with them was not as challenging at all. They were open and eager to start any activities that we presented. Having to work with children from all ages was beneficial as I learned to adapt and expand my interpersonal skills.
This experience as a whole provided me with the opportunity to show my professional quality as an educator, a cooperative team member, and a lifelong learner. Also, in the beginning of the lesson I gave the students clear directions of what I expected of the students. I had the students repeat the expectations back to me which was a success since they understood and did what was expected. After the activity, the students were supposed to complete a word sort and then a writing prompt. During the writing and the sort, I did not give clear instructions which affected the students and how they completed the assessment. Personal Development is a lifelong process that involves the assessment of current skills and talents and the enhancement of oneself based on that assessment which then leads to the realization of goals and an improved quality of life. To be able to assess yourself, you need to be able to reflect on your past which helps you to understand the attitudes you have developed and the foundation that you will be building your life on.
