I went to Linwood Holton elementary school for my Community Engagement Week. I went there from Tuesday, February 7 to Thursday, February 9. The teacher I helped out in the classroom was Mr. Johnson who was a exceptionally nice guy that taught fourth grade. I enjoyed helping out the students there and bonding with each and every student. As the week went on I felt more and more connected with the children. At first I was a little nervous about what they would think of me and how would I help in their classroom. My favorite part of everyday was the recess with the students. I could play basketball, soccer, football, and more with all the children and I got to see the real side of them. All of the children seemed like they were having a amazing time there everyday. They were very respected by always calling me Mr. Whitehead, and they also looked very formal with their shirt tails always tucked in. A lot of these students had trouble with the material they were learning especially with Math. Almost every single kid had a question of some sort. I was focusing on helping one student the whole time. While I was helping her other kids were trying to also get help from me because Mr. Johnson could not help everyone else. Recess was extremely fun, but there was only two teachers monitoring about 70 kids. I did not go to the fourth grade recess because I had to go before then. Instead I went to the 5th grade recess. The fourth grade might have been different, but in the fifth grade recess some of the kids got into fights that had to broken up by me. They teachers did not really focus on the children during recess too. They just talked to each other while the children were roaming everywhere doing whatever they wanted.
