The Library of Hattiesburg, Petal and Forrest County is located in Forrest County, Mississippi. This public library system is headquartered in Hattiesburg, MS, and has an additional branch in Petal, MS. The library began serving the reading needs of the community with a circulating collection of books in 1916. Later that year it relocated to the lounge of the first floor of the Forrest County Courthouse. During World War I, the American Library Association established twelve branch libraries in Hattiesburg to serve citizens and soldiers at Camp Shelby. Then the first public library building was dedicated on Main Street Hattiesburg in May 1930. The current building was opened in March 1996 and is located at 329 Hardy Street. The library features tributes to the state in the Mississippi Tower, Mississippi Room, Genealogy and Observation Level and the Author’s Walk honoring great Mississippi authors. The centerpiece is The Spirit that Builds, a 10-foot-high, 167-foot-around mural which hangs 30 feet above the circulation desk. It shows Hattiesburg history in an artistic view painted by University of Southern Mississippi art professor, William Baggett.( Greiner, 2004, pp. 175-178 ) The library offers: 1) a large selection of fiction, non-fiction, reference, and children's materials; 2) a growing collection of MP3/Play-A-Way and books on CD; 3) DVDs & VHS tapes for circulation; 4) two computer labs for public use; 5) several specialized book clubs and story times; 6) a beautiful and welcoming building and ample seating; 7) Wi-Fi connections throughout the library, including the ever-popular Reading Room; 8) study rooms available for patron use for study sessions or meetings; 9) gallery space for rotating collections and exhibits; and 1...

This library system is utilizing all the technologies and materials available to them to serve the community in the best way. Despite certain social indicators and demographic statistics indicating that the library should not be overly utilized, it is thriving and is heavily in use. There are areas that the library can look to improve based on statistical evidence, such as reaching out to the low income population and the over 55 years age group. This library seems to be meeting numerous needs for a wide range of patrons, and doing it well.
John Warner s speech gave me demographic information, and allowed me give substance to my paper. This is a supplement resource. I used this information as part of my closing summary and support for my thesis.

My group’s aggregate is in East Side Community of Buffalo, NY. For this assignment, a windshield survey of East Side Community was completed. The windshield survey is an assessment of the community through my personal observations. This survey will include an assessment of four categories. These consist of the physical aspects, economical standings, services provided, and social aspects of the community. In addition to the windshield survey, local census data was collected. Below are east side community’s results and local census data findings.
Arist (2007) chose three outstanding examples of libraries—academic, special, and public---that demonstrate how to provide information, technology, programming, and services to their communities. Her purpose is to encourage every library to do the same.

Library managers should organize technology-based training for librarians in order to make them comfortable with new technologies and more aware of their dangers. Since technology skills are important part of most library and information jobs, librarians should make sure they acquire technological skills continuously. University libraries should employed qualified information and technology specialist and troubleshooters to maximize system accessibility and provide a level of comfort to the librarians.
Liaisons work in public, academic, and special libraries. In public libraries, they provide collection development policies to staff and patrons. They also target assessment and management to the special needs and interests of the patrons, which include recreational readers, civic groups, government agencies, businesses, senior citizens, the disabled, students, teachers, people in institutions, English language learners, and persons involved in literacy programs. In addition, they provide activities and outreach programs through adult and juvenile programs, Friends of the Library chapters, fo...

Greater use of the Library's Capitol Hill facilities by scholars for the kind of interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, multimedia, multilingual, and synthetic writing that is important to Congressional deliberation and national policy-making, but inadequately encouraged both by special interest groups and by advocacy-oriented think tanks; and C. Greater use by the general public through programs that stimulate interest, increase knowledge, and encourage more citizens to use the collections on-site and electronically.”The Library employees will add their position as information guides by “helping more people find appropriate materials in a swelling sea of unsorted information” and directing them to services and resources exclusive to the Library of Congress. This requires not only more growth of employees that the Library has formerly had, but also making it easier in new ways more wide-ranging and “systematic use by researchers of the distinctive materials that only the Library of Congress has.” Courses for the common public, such as displays or publications, must display the importance and value of the collections.
The Library Commons at Olathe Northwest is a natural extension of the secondary library’s traditional mission in a digital world. My library offers a wide range of elements to foster student learning in new and creative ways. My goal is that this space fits the need of every student. Students who need to complete an assigned task that calls for collaboration can meet in the library and plan, discuss and complete their assignment. At the same time other students can be searching for a great book or looking online for sports scores or prom dresses. The forty computers in the library offer access for any student who walks in the door. And just in case more computers are needed, a wireless laptop can be called into service.
