A time when I modeled good leadership and/or citizenship was in my senior year of high school. In my senior year I was in a class called the Health Occupation 2. In the Health Occupation 2 class, we would go to the Sikeston Convalescent Center nursing home every Thursday and Friday to get our training done. So, we can become Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA). In the nursing home, I learned that a lot of families left their parents in nursing home because they felt like their parents were burdened to them and they would never visit them. has sacrificed their need to take care of their kids. So, when a parent get older and are not able to take care of themselves then their kids should step up and take care of them. When I learned that I was shocked, so some of my friends and I decided to spend some time with them, because a lot of patients would have spent majority their day in their room without talking to a single person. We would usually go to them and paint their nail for them. Because it was great to spend time with them and it also made them feel good about themselves. In the beginning it was hard for them to open to a group of teenagers because they were not used to it, but slowing they start opening up to me. When they finally opened to me, I felt so good, because my mission was achieved, which was to make them feel like home. Choose a leadership role you hold/held and explain your vision for that organization. In high school, I was a member of the Operation Hope Mentor Program (OHMP). The Operation Hope Mentor Program was all about helping fifth and sixth who come from a lower-class family. Each person in the program would get at least kid to mentor year. We would meet them twice a month for about one and half hours. The mentors job was to encourage their kids to work hard and tell them that one day their hard work would pay off. Also, mentors would buy their kids things that they needed. For example, some families could not afford a jacket for their kids in winters time, so their kids would go everywhere without any jacket on snow days. As a mentor, it was our responsibility to buy jackets for our mentee. Being a mentor to my mentee was an amazing experiencing. To me, this organization was everything. When I moved to the Sikeston, my family struggling a lot that time. I wish someone would have created the same organization that time, because my parents could not afford any of things too. When I learned about this program I want to be in it. Because I knew how it is feel like not have anything. Being a lower-class family can be difficult a lot time, especially for kids, where everyone wants to fit in with everyone. So, giving these kids what they need and seeing the joy on their faces was everything to me. Also encouraging kids to not to give up was a such a good feeling too. Describe a scenario when you had to challenge your peers, an authority figure, or the status quo to do what you knew was right. In beginning of my sophomore year of high school, I was really worried about going to my English class. I always heard horrible things my English teacher, Mrs. Wilson, from my sibling and other students how was in the military before teaching and that made her not like any Muslims. So, I was really scared to go to her class on the first day of the school. In the first quarter of the sophomore year Mrs. Wilson made one or two racist comments towards my cousin and me about our national. So, I decided to stay away from her, because I was scared that she would say something racist to me again. Then one day in the middle of the first semester, I was having a little trouble in Mrs. Wilson class. So, I decided to go to her and ask her for help. She told me to meet her after school, so she can help me with homework. We would meet everyday after school for two weeks, because we were spending extra time together, we got to know each other better. I learned she was not as bad as other students describe her to be. When second semester started, we get really close. We develop a relationship of mentor and mentee. I feel I showed her not always Muslims are bad people. In the end, she saw me as a person who wanted to learn, so one day they can achieve their goal. Not as a person who forces their beliefs on other people. How do you motivate others to get involved in your leadership vision? For me, if you want to motivate others to get involved in your leadership vision, then you need to prove to them you are a good leader.
To become a good leader, you need to set your goals first. In high school, one of my teacher was all about being diversified and open minded. She would motivate her students to follow her leadership skills by making her students form “A United Circle”. “A United Circle” was all about clearly our differences and working together. One day everyone was arguing in the class, because no one was able to settle out their differences. Everyone in that class was so different from everyone else, so we were not able to get over our differences. So, the next day, my teacher made whole class form a circle. In the circle, everybody in it told the group their problem in order. After all the problems were solved, she told our class that everyone over here is capable doing anything and if we all beautiful people start working together then no one will be able to stop us ever.
I would probably motivate others to get involved in my leadership vision by using same method as my teacher. The first thing I would do is figure out what are most important leadership qualities to me. Then explain and show to group why following my vision of a leader can benefit all us. It is important to show to people developing any qualities of a leader can useful for them and people around them like my teacher did. problem. What is the most meaningful reward you’ve received as a result of your work as a leader (in any position)? I have a friend, Peyton, who was really shy in high school. Whenever she had to do present or had to give a speech she would always shake uncontrollably, and you would not hear anything that comes out of her mouth. So, basically, she had very little communication skills. In senior year of high she wanted to be the president of some club. The process of becoming the president was that she had to give a speech on why they should select her the president of a club. For speech practice, on the first I helped her organize the speech and helped her memorize the speech. I told her to stand outside of her bedroom, while I’m standing inside her bedroom. So, she can speak loud and clear. On the second day of her practicing’s, I took her in my car. I told while I drive around the town, you are going to practice your speech as loud as possible. After practicing for one hour, I told her to practice speech in medium pitch tone for one hour more. On the last day of her practice, I made Peyton practices by making her stand in front of a mirror. I asked her, when she is speaking does she look uncomfortable, because if she does then her audiences would be uncomfortable too. I told her by not being so monotone would make her audiences listen more. After her practicing done, I wished her good luck and she went home. One week later she texted me telling that she has become the president of the club. After reading the text I felt so prove of me for helping her get over her fear of public speaking.
Many definitions exist on what leadership is. Despite the many differences in definitions, they all describe the leader as someone who influences others. Leaders transform individuals around them allowing them to work to their full potential. In order for a leader to be successful they must be knowledgeable, self- confident, and effective communicators. These characteristics will create a positive workplace environment that results in an increase in productivity. Leadership is not defined by titles or salary. Leaders must acquire their skills and continue to improve on them through learning. Good leaders provide a vision and help motivate others to make that vision happen. The leader must be effective and successful in creating a strong institution.
Leadership is contagious throughout the world and most importantly in the Army. It is not just my view, but of all leaders, at all levels, that organizations are responsible for setting conditions that lead to long-term organizational success. As I reflect on my experiences, through experience and observation, I realize how my values, beliefs, and perspectives about leadership continuously evolve over time. Recognizing these changes over time helps me better understand that people in organizations have different perspectives in life. This leadership narrative serve as important guiding principles for how I will lead at the organizational level and represents my thought, values and beliefs.
Being a leader is no simple task. During my Eagle Scout project, I lead a range of people, from adults to youth. It was my job to make sure everyone was working and, that everyone was capable of doing their task. I had many issues doing this throughout my project because I am only one person and I can’t be everywhere at once. Thusly made being a leader a drudgery. Becoming a leader is never an easy task. It is complex with rational decision making and accepting responsibility for those decisions. Being the leader, does not mean that you always make the best choice, but it does mean you learn and grow from all you experiences. Sometimes becoming a leader is not a choice, but a responsibility that you inherit. Leaders are not born, but are created through trial and error. A true leader cares for his subordinate and will always respect, listen, and mentor them, but a true leader will also discipline correct subordinates when needed. Sometimes a leader needs to depend on his faith and look to a higher power, so that he can make choices with guidance.
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
Leaders do not just appear out of thin air and automatically start making great things happen in the world. A leader must learn from prior leaders or role models that they are surrounded by that they look up to. Not everyone can be a leader, only some people have the correct characteristics it takes to lead others in the right direction. Those who do great things, for example volunteering at a homeless shelter, are not leaders. Many people mistake a “great person” as being a leader, which is completely incorrect (Kouzes and Posner, p. 3). While playing an active role in your community is a positive thing it does not make someone a leader of that community. All leaders have a group of people they have inspiration too and that is a good way of determining who your personal leaders are. My mother, brother, and grandfather are my leaders because I have always looked up to them and tried to mimic some of the great things that I have seen them do. My mother has always been an independent women with goals and an action plan to accomplish those set goals. Stephen, my elder brother, is outgoing and tends to have a leveled head when it comes to evaluating stressful situations. My grandfather is the most caring person I know and he is amazing at keeping situations under control in order to please everyone. These are all the qualities I want to combine into my own leadership style. I know I am not a efficient leader of these actions yet, but I plan on growing into this as I more on into my career, fulfill my set goals, and adjust to the curve-balls that life throws at me.

I believe that leadership is not something that you are born with, but that has to be learned over time. You learn to become a leader from watching other leaders, and also from personal experience. People should become leaders; so that they can help others do their best. They should not become leaders for the title and power that may come with leadership. Being a leader does not mean you get to boss people around by telling them what to do. The purpose of a leader is to guide others by encouraging, showing them the way, and by challenging them to do the best that they can do. I learned leadership through personal experience. In high school I played sports and had many class projects to do. My senior year was the first time my school had a soccer program, and I along with two other girls was captains. As we all know, when a group of girls come together, the drama comes too. All three of the captains had to work together and show the girls that if we wanted this program to be a success and grow, they had to work together as well. It was hard at first, but when we encouraged everyone, it worked out better than expected in the end. Also, in my business class, we had a lot of projects that were mostly group projects. During the end of the year, we had a project where we had to make up a new product. My partner and I were both seniors and it was a stressful time with finals, SAT scores, graduation, and trying to become honor graduates. We were tired and just did not want to do another project, but our teacher, Mr. Brace, did not give up on us. He showed us what to do, and encouraged us constantly every day. In order for a leader to be a leader, he/she must begin with the assumption that you are the one who matters most. As a leader you have to possess that level of confidence in yourself that you are capable of leading yourself “before you can lead others”. And when you develop this belief then you are better able to affirmatively influence “on others”. A leader needs to “believe” in himself and have the confidence that whatever you say will excite and what you do can motivate others. You must be optimistic about what you do, to have some relevance to being in existence.
...eing a role model or a leader is such an important position. I have learned a lot of things about myself while writing this paper. I have learned that I am not very vocal and bossy towards others. I am the type of person that does not like to be in charge because I do not like the pressure of having to lead other people. However, throughout this paper and class I have learned that I can still be a leader even if I am not in your face about things. I can still make a change and make an impact on people through different ways. This paper taught me a lot about what leadership means to me.
As written in the book Student Leadership by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, he outlines many ways on how a student should lead their peers. Lautzenheiser believes that a student leader shouldn’t be chosen for how talented, popular, or how well their academic standing is. Instead the student leader should be chosen for how well they interact with others and how they are considerate of their peers. Being dedicated is a quality that every leader should obtain, but being cooperative and giving are the two levels of maturity that a student should be at before receiving a leadership position.
Throughout my life, my experiences and role models have shaped my understanding of leadership. I believe leadership is responsibly guiding and motivating others to use both my strengths and their own to obtain success. My personal leadership philosophy is guided by my core values of my family, relationships, loyalty, harmony, and responsibility. My ever-changing definition of philosophy helps my leadership and decision making routinely. New experience’s and external forces effect my translation of leadership daily which, in turn, helps shape me into a successful leader.

When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
