Public Relations or (PR) is an important field that businesses and companies use to connect with their consumers. This involves maintain relationships with the public to promote the business as well as communication between the public and business. My interview dealt with the world of exercise fitness. I interviewed Ricky Gross who is a personal fitness trainer. He is the Owner/Operator of RJG Fitness LLC, which is a personal training company out of metropolitan Atlanta Georgia. His company provides personal fitness sessions, one on one, or group sessions in clients’ own personal homes or fitness clubs. I conducted the interview over Skype to get further information on how his company deals with public relations.
Mr. Gross elaborated on his company’s main mission and values. He said RJG Fitness is a goal-oriented organization that is designed to help clients achieve their goals through exercise and athletic training. His company uses goals that may seem insurmountable and minimizes them into small achievable goals. This results in invoking confidence and inspiration towards reaching their ultimate goal. His company put clients first so that they see results both physically and mentally. Personal training involves determination and consistency and these are vital characteristics that his company works at with clients.
Mr. Gross told me dealing with values, his company values attention to detail and mistakes are not tolerated. If there is a lack of detail this can result in mistakes, injuries, loss income, and ultimately business losses. His company doesn’t tolerate the word “can’t”, which means, “I don’t want to”, which means he focuses more on developing confidence in clients so that they say “I can”. Most importantly RJG Fitne...

Lastly, PR effectiveness is an important quality that RJG Fitness holds. Mr. Gross said he bases his effectiveness on the amount of request his company receives for business, monthly/annual revenue, and SEO analytics from the company website. Dealing with the relationship with the media, Mr. Gross said his company currently doesn’t have a relationship but it is on the radar for the future. Mr. Gross also provided some information for future PR students. He said that people should always be willing to learn; when a person stops learning they will never grow. He said that people should operate in integrity at all times, develop their craft, identify the areas where they are weak, and work on getting better at weaknesses. Overall my interview with RJG Fitness went well and Mr. Gross provided very informing information for me about public relations.

"A value determines what a person thinks he ought to do, which may or may not be the same as he wants to do, or what is in his interest to, or what in fact he actually does. Values in this sense give rise to general standards and ideal by which we judge our own and others conduct; they also give rise to specific obligations” (CCETSW,
In an audit conducted with the global athletic apparel brand, Lululemon, it was found that multiple public relations theories could be applied to its communications with both internal and external publics. Two prominent theories found through analysis of the crises dealt with by the company were the agenda setting theory and the semiotics theory. As Lululemon has faced crisis in the media on multiple occasions, these theories suggest which public relations techniques worked, and alternatively which didn’t.

Values remind me of ethics and morals, necessary in any walk of life and imperative in the work place. These concepts are guidelines in which employees need to follow to be successful. “Values represent basic convictions that a specific mode of conduct or end-state of existence is personally or socially preferable to an opposite or converse mode of conduct or end-state of existence.” (Robbins, 136) Integrity, courage, service, wisdom, respect and goal setting are a few of the values that are most crucial to me and what I hope to achieve within any work place setting. Values should be lived every day in the work place and should exemplify the

When determining the best fit for the clients needs, the practitioner assesses the client in regards to the environment the client lives in or is associated with, family dynamics, and many others. The practitioner also relies on their own values and beliefs to help guide them in this decision (Micheson, 2011). Your values are your driving force, meaning that it outlines what influences you and what qualities are important (Micheson, 2011). Values are a consistent preference that affects one’s decisions and actions based on that person’s deepest beliefs and commitments. Values are the fundamental beliefs about how things should be and what is right and worthwhile (Bradford W. Sheafor, 2008, pp. 1).
Customer service is important for any business to succeed. Fitness centers main source of revenue are linked to it’s membership base. In order to ensure that the facility survives and remains competitive in the fitness industry, members must consistently have a high quality service. Members who are satisfied with the service being provided by a fitness business will automatically remain members and give word of mouth to the word to their family, friends, and co-workers, most importantly in the 21st century social media. One form to keep customers happy is to ensure that the members and staff are on a first name basis. It is important for employees to familiarize themselves with all the members who regularly visit the gym. This way the member feels comfortable while training and does not feel left out or alienated. Employees names and titles should be visible in the form of a tag or a badge on the

Public relations is everywhere today. It is a practice that has become an important aspect of any business venture. Whether an organization is not for profit, for profit, or governmental, they still need and desire to communicate their purpose within the community and public relations allows this to happen. There are several publics in which the PR practitioner must correspond with and each requires a different means of communication. Internal publics are inside the organizations such as clerks, managers, and stockholders. "External publics are those not directly connected to the organization: the press, government, educators, customers, suppliers, and the community" (Seitel, 2004). Each public plays a key role in the PR of the organization. The many functions of PR can also be categorized based on what purpose they serve the organization.
