As I nervously sat in the corner of the emergency room awaiting the doctor’s decision, I could feel my heart pounding rapidly. It felt like an explosive ticking down to zero. Fear began to take over my whole body and thoughts, and I became frightened. The thought of losing my grandma was like a dreadful nightmare. She was there for me whenever I needed here. Couldn’t the doctors find some super way of helping my grandma recover from her medical issues? Just then, Dr. Vittal, the chief surgeon, ran over to the bench where I and my cousin sat anxiously. He put his warm hands on my shoulders, and told me to stay stay strong and keep my hopes up. He told me that he planned to execute many operations to keep my grandma alive. As the surgeon’s words reverberated through my ears, my hope for my grandma living jumped through the roof but I still was not sure. After about 3 hours or so, I returned home because Dr. Vittal and the other doctors decided to run further diagnostics and I was extremely tired. I thought hard about my conversation with Dr. Vittal. His soothing words were not really ...
Waking up to the sound of the clapping of her hands making homemade tortillas was part of my daily life growing up in the ranch. Still with my eyes closed, I could smell a combination of the corn tortillas cooking slowly, and smoke of burning wood coming from the brick porch right outside my room. With my mouth watering for the taste of such appetizing meal, made by this woman whom I adore, was the beginning of my days as a child. "Everything has a solution, except death", words so powerful and meaningful she always implied to me. I have learned from experience that the attitude and way in which we see things before doing them, has a powerful impact on its outcome. For example, if I don’t want to cook dinner,
Now that the summary is out there for all who did not get to read the story let’s make some connections to everyday life. In the story is it said by the author that, “All the while I hated myself for having wept before the needle went in, convinced that the nurse and my mother we...
Almost doctors and physicians in the world have worked at a hospital, so they must know many patients’ circumstances. They have to do many medical treatments when the patients come to the emergency room. It looks like horror films with many torture scenes, and the patients have to pay for their pains. The doctors have to give the decisions for every circumstance, so they are very stressful. They just want to die instead of suffering those medical treatments. In that time, the patients’ family just believes in the doctors and tells them to do whatever they can, but the doctors just do something that 's possible. Almost patients have died after that expensive medical treatments, but the doctors still do those medical procedures. That doctors did not have enough confidence to tell the truth to the patients’ families. Other doctors have more confidence, so they explain the health condition to the patients’ families. One time, the author could not save his patient, and the patient had found another doctor to help her. That doctor decided to cut her legs, but the patient still died in fourteen days

“You could have died if we didn’t find this soon enough.” Swallowing hard, knowing a few weeks later I could have been gone. “You have a diaphragmatic hernia.” While the doctor was explaining to me what happened to my stomach, they were already getting a room set up for me. “You need to have surgery tonight.” Walking into that hospital that morning hoping they would find what was going on, I never thought I would have been having surgery that night. It felt like everything was going so fast. One minute I walked in and the next I was laying in a hospital bed with medicine going into my body, knowing I wouldn’t leave that hospital for at least another week.
It was a Monday night; I remember it like it was yesterday. I had just completed my review of Office Administration in preparation for my final exams. As part of my leisure time, I decided to watch my favorite reality television show, “I love New York,” when the telephone rang. I immediately felt my stomach dropped. The feeling was similar to watching a horror movie reaching its climax. The intensity was swirling in my stomach as if it were the home for the butterflies. My hands began to sweat and I got very nervous. I could not figure out for the life of me why these feelings came around. I lay there on the couch, confused and still, while the rings continued. My dearest mother decided to answer this eerie phone call. As she picked up, I sat straight up. I muted the television in hopes of hearing what the conversation. At approximately three minutes later, the telephone fell from my mother’s hands with her faced drowned in the waves of water coming from her eyes. She cried “Why?” My Grandmother had just died.

The person that I’ve described best fits my Grandma. She knows all the right things and is there whenever I need her. My grandma is one of the most important people in my life and I’m so happy that I have her.
I said, "goodbye" to the nurse and left that awful place. Outside, I took a deep breath of cool fresh air. I practically ran to get inside my safe car. When back inside i cried in excruciating pain, I couldn't even feel my face. I sat there for a while thinking of those three terrifying words, Dr. Rust's office. I inserted the key into my ignition, turned it and drove away. When I knew I was home safe, I looked into my rear-view mirror. When I saw that old rickety building filled with bad experiences, I realized that that had been the most uncomfortable place I had ever visited, and I surely wasn't going to return.
Saturday night was my high school graduation and my party was Sunday afternoon. That whole weekend my family was coming in to town to watch me walk across the stage. This made me feel happy and amazing. When I got my diploma I was so excited. It felt great to have a great achievement already finished. As my family came and supported me at my graduation was awesome, I felt really proud of myself for what I have accomplished. When Sunday came around I went to church that morning. When I came home we got ready for my party to show off my accomplishments, that I got through high school. As everyone came and left at their time. It felt great to have a weekend devoted to me. Once it was over I went through the gifts and cards that I got. Out of all the great gifts that I got there was only one that made a great impact on me.

In life many of us experience what it is like to be hurt by those we hold dear. As a young girl I saw this first hand that generally the people we hold the closest actually end up being the people that hurt us the most. You expect more from them and their actions affect you on a deeper level the people you hold to a different standard from your loved ones. My grandmother taught me through the hardships she experienced what it mean to be a genuinely selfless person. My grandmother showed me the best way to live is by ensuring the happiness of loved ones even when they have wronged you
I come from your typical average size family which includes two wonderful parents, a sister who looks like a Barbie doll and a half-brother who is as big as a whale. My parents would always wonder why I would be so selfish and not very talkative towards my Grandma. To be fair I never liked my Dad’s step mom. However, I had my reasons, but I just kept them to myself and acted like I liked her. Everyone is always telling me, you’re so lucky to have such a wonderful family and you should be very blessed to have them. People are always telling me that not everyone has a family or can be loved by so many caring people around them and have it so good. But then suddenly, one day I uncovered a long- hidden secret that would break my family apart.
Cracking my eyes open, I noticed that I was lying in a bed in a hospital room with an IV in each arm. It was about 2:00 in the afternoon and I saw the sunlight streaming through the window in my room. I had just gotten out of almost three hours of surgery. My mom was leaning over me, asking me if I was all right, but my mouth was so swollen and numb that I couldn’t talk. Dr. Keller came in to talk to us and explained that my surgery went very well. After that, I stayed at the hospital for about a week before finally going home.
Loving, friendly, and capable describe my Grandma perfectly. My Grandma is 65 years old. She grew up in New Bremen but now lives in Celina. She has four boys Greg, Alan, Eric, and Ben. My Grandma is special to me because she is loving, friendly, and capable.
Looking around the waiting room I saw a sea of faces, but not the types the I was so use to seeing. Everyone there showed either tormented expressions or were anxiously awaiting what could be the greatest moment in their lives. At that moment no one had their masks on, it seemed the hospital was the one place no one could hide their raw emotions. It seemed as though I was the only one with their mask still intact.
