My First Puppy
It was a nice winter day and my parents made me come home from a friend’s house. I had no clue what we were doing until we got to Chester, South Dakota. We were driving and listening to some country music and the one hour trip felt like a never ending adventure. Finally my dad turned down a gravel road. At this point all of us kids were wondering what was going on. Then we stopped at a farm house. That was when my parents told us that we were going in to look for a new black lab. I was so excited. I knew my dad was looking for a dog since our other lab passed away but I did not know we were going to get one that soon.
We had eight little doggies to choose from and they were two males and six female. One was a yellow lab and the other seven were black and they were one fourth German short hair

My parents liked the black puppies so I knew that the yellow lab was not even competition anymore. I said that the dog I wanted was the one that we needed and gave all of my points about how the black female with the little white toes and little cross looking white spot on her chest was the one that everyone would love and that we should take home. The points must have been really good because Kendra put down the yellow puppy and agreed with me because this was now Kendra and me debating over Jaiden and her reasons to get the puppy she wanted. It was not even a fair argument after Kendra started agreeing with me because it was the two older kid verse the youngest and us older kid were the ones that were going to be feeding, watering, walking and letting her out to the bathroom. While both of my parents talked it over, I talked with Jaiden and we decided as brother and sisters that we would go with my puppy. My parents thought that that was a good idea also so we got the cute little black female puppy that I picked out and we named her
Pit bulls, the most dangerous dog to ever live. People like to train Pit Bulls to fight other dogs until they are either hurt or dead. The owners that train the dogs are usually the ones that make the dog turn out to be vicious and dangerous. “Each year, 1.2 million dogs are euthanized, approximately 40% of whom are Pit Bulls”(Moore). Pit Bulls don’t know better to understand which is right from wrong since they’re being raised up to fight and protect. Pit Bulls aren’t good family dogs due to the power of their strength and that they could attack at any moment.
I really enjoyed "Puppies, Dogs, and Blue Northers" by Gary Paulsen, because it was a story about his life. In the book Paulsen shows the true outdoors. He explains that he lives in northern Minnesota in a small house with his wife, Ruth and son, Jim. They have electricity but they do not have a television. In their small house the only heat source they have is a woodstove. Paulsen explains, that he is usually the first one to wake up and is consequently the person who has to get the morning fire started. He explains about his dog kennel he has. It is composed of all of his sled dogs that he raises. Paulsen is a sled dog racer and has raced in the Iditarod a few times. The story shows true friendship between Paulsen and his dog Cookie. This
The media’s attack on pit bulls started when drug dealers were chaining them up using them as a weapon against police. In the media Pit Bulls and portrayed as vicious dogs that attack owners, strangers, and children without warning. There are several other breeds that bite and attack, however you only hear about the pit bulls. For example if on day one a Lab mix bites a child you will see it in the newspaper the following day; day two when a Great Dane bites two adults you will see it on the news the next day; day three a Rottweiler attacks an elderly woman in her backyard and it is aired on all network stations; day four a Pit Bull Terrier bites a mailman and you will hear and see it on every station in the country. This is a good example
I am a lover of dogs and what I chose my topic about was dogs. I have three dogs I love them to pieces. Dogs have so much history from all the different breeds to how they came to be. They are very interesting from their head to their feet. Today I will tell you fun facts to old ancient, let’s begin!
When you hear Pit Bulls; what is the first thing that comes into your mind? Maybe, mean or just flat out dangerous dogs. Many people have Pit Bulls and say they are great dogs and that they are great family pets. Many still think they are not safe to have as pets and some states are even trying to ban the ownership of Pit Bulls. I believe that Pits are good family dogs and that people have the wrong idea about these dogs.
Should people be allowed to keep Pit Bulls as a pet? I hear this being debated all the time. I hear on the news how states have banned this dog. Its sad, the dog has done nothing wrong. I think its the owners fault, the dogs were raised to fight. The dogs don't know any different, they had to fight to survive.
The American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) currently recognizes 48 unique rabbit breeds. Each breed requires specific care and needs to stay well maintained and at their best health. What most new rabbit owners do not realize is that owning a rabbit requires long-term commitment and major responsibility. A well cared for indoor rabbit can live up to 8-12 years. Rabbits are the 3rd most abandoned pets with dogs and cats being in 1st and 2nd. Especially near Easter day, many people impulsively purchase rabbits to later realize that they can’t nor do not want to care for them any longer. About 95% of Easter bunnies end up being abandoned at shelters. Many people believe that rabbits are a cheap and easy pet suitable for children. This is
Years ago, people would go just directly to the breeder and pick out the puppy they found most fitting ...
Everyone has a family member, friend, or beloved pet so sick you were not sure if they would live or die, and you find out about a new surgery procedure or medicine available to save them. Have you ever wondered where these new surgery procedures or medicines come from? When you think about all the major medical advancements over the last few decades and beyond, it has depended on animal research. As research moves into the future, we need to understand how the body works and how diseases progress. We need to find ways to treat, cure, or prevent disease and disability. The use of animal research is providing us with new technologies and medicines, which are benefiting both humans and animals in treating and extending lives.
I got back to my house and stayed there for a bit thinking about where my dog could be. My brother came out from the garage and said “Hey Chase where is Chico?” My heart was beating in my chest. I just said “He’s only a little down the street.”
Some people may say a dog is just a dog, but for me they are extremely desirable. Dogs are a person’s best friend. They make me cry, laugh, and I wish never adopted one because they do smell. Although, dogs smell, it should not be a justification to not obtain one. I mean what does not smell? I never realized how taking care of a dog could change my life; until I saw how they sleep throughout the day, they are always there to comfort me, and how they provide a responsible way of living.
As a kid, I fell in love with the idea of getting a puppy for Christmas. Wrapped in a small box with a bow on top sitting under the tree just like the movies and tv shows I had seen. I can remember making a Christmas list of all the things I wanted that year, and every year the same thing that I wanted had said “puppy” with it underlined so that my mother knew which was my favorite on the list. Every year no surprise, I didn’t find a dog. I never understood why I never received one. When the kids at school talked about the few dogs they had at home made me so jealous, but I hoped that one day it would be me to have my own best friend at home.
Driving up to the house, I saw all the little critters running around and having a ball of a time. I got into the pen with the pups, and finally decided on the shy runt, who spent the majority of his time hiding under a board. I loved his personality and instantly knew he was the dog for me. I named him Charlie, and from that point on our master/dog relationship began. At the time I lived in a small two bedroom house with a fenced yard near Wanamaker Road.
When I was nine years old my grandparents adopted a two year puppy named, maximilian. We, of course, called him Max. When we went to the kennel to pick out a new dog Max didn 't seem like an option. He was a scrawny little puppy tucked in the corner of the shelter. Max was a boisterous springer spaniel mix, and when we first got him he was black and white. Overtime his white fur was masked by black spots, similar to age spots, which made him uniquely mine. Max was suppose to my grandfathers new hunting dog when he was newly adopted. However, at the very first gunshot Max bolted and my grandfather spent a three hours looking for Max in the woods. After the hunting incident my grandfather wrote Max off and, he became my dog.
Six months ago I decided that I needed an animal companion. I did a lot of research about Maltese dogs. I looked through the internet to learn if that was the right dog for me. After I was done with my research about Maltese, I looked through newspaper ads and visited the animal shelter to see if I could find one. I came upon an ad in the newspaper for some six month old Maltese puppies, which a lady was selling.
