Owning a Pet
Having a pet is a wonderful idea. Pets bring companionship, personality, and gut wrenching humor to households across the world. Having previously owned both a cat and a dog, and currently being without a pet, I began to think about getting a new furry friend. Born a dog lover, and bred into a cat lover, I had the difficult decision of choosing one of the two.
When I was twenty-two years old, I answered an advertisement in the paper for free Labrador puppies. Driving up to the house, I saw all the little critters running around and having a ball of a time. I got into the pen with the pups, and finally decided on the shy runt who spent the majority of his time hiding under a board. I loved his personality and instantly knew he was the dog for me. I named him Charlie, and from that point on our master/dog relationship began.
At the time I lived in a small two bedroom house with a fenced yard near Wanamaker road. Once Charlie was a full grown dog, he was the hit of the block. Charlie hardly ever barked, and was always just as happy to see the large groups of children exiting the school bus, as he was for me to arrive at home after work. Charlie had a bag full of tricks. My favorite was the Bob Dole, in which Charlie would sit and shake with his right paw, then I would give him the "Bob Dole" command, and he would immediately shake with his left paw. It was a riot, and netted Charlie about thirty pounds of treats in his lifetime.
Vegas, on the other hand, was a full grown Persian cat that a friend was trying to find an adopted home for before she moved out of state. I had been around Vegas enough times to have a good idea of his personality, and I decided to help my friend out and give Vegas a try. Unlike C...

..., and none of it was as impressive or as interesting as the furry cat on the couch, not to mention the personal escort to and from the car to the door from the sweet, polite, black lab outside. But I can't really blame my guests, for Charlie and Vegas' cute faces and gestures worked their magic on me as well. And more times than naught, they got what they wanted in life.
After losing Charlie in a car accident, and Vegas being returned to his rightful owner, I decided to get a new cat. A new cat would be more affordable, and fit in with my apartment house lifestyle. The ability to maintain a cats responsibilities while attending school, and spending weekends at work, is far less of a job than it would be for a new dog. The decision has proved worthwhile. Flea is doing well adapting to her new surroundings, and doing her best to avoid the lava life throws her way.
Dogs make better pets then cats, because they are nice, loving, protective and playful. Cats on the other hand are mean, lazy, and not so playful with any other animals or humans. When it comes to dogs they do not like to be alone and they like to play with other animals and humans. When a dogs comes to love its owner they begin to make sure that it is safe at all times when the dog is around the human it will protect them. A dog will run and play with you for hours while a cat will just lay around and play with a ball of yarn or sleep. A dog would be a better pet, because they like to be more active then cats.
It was strange and quiet without the noise of their nails hitting the floor or the hair all over the place. In order to fill the void in our hearts we had adopted a German Shepherd mix named
He knew what Whataburger bags contained and would plant himself between the bearer of the bag and their front door, wagging his tail and giving his best impression of adorable 80 pound puppy. He quickly became a beloved neighborhood mascot. Only problem—he did not want to be touched. I take that back—he seemed to desperately want affection, but would shy away if you got too close. And he was deathly frightened of a collar, visibly quivering at the sight, and twisting away and snapping if you got too close with one. I don’t know what kind of abuse might create that reaction (and I really don’t want to know), but it made getting Trouble to the shelter a bit
Even though we have so many cats I still love dogs and other animals a lot.
As a kid, I fell in love with the idea of getting a puppy for Christmas. Wrapped in a small box with a bow on top sitting under the tree just like the movies and tv shows I had seen. I can remember making a Christmas list of all the things I wanted that year, and every year the same thing that I wanted had said “puppy” with it underlined so that my mother knew which was my favorite on the list. Every year no surprise, I didn’t find a dog. I never understood why I never received one. When the kids at school talked about the few dogs they had at home made me so jealous, but I hoped that one day it would be me to have my own best friend at home.
During my life, I have had different pets ranging from cats and dogs to hamsters and a lizard. Being in the United States Army, having cats as pets is much easier to take care of as opposed to having a dog as a pet. There are many reasons as to how I came to this decision, but the deciding factors were based upon bathroom use, feeding, and the amount of attention and time that both cats and dogs require. While these factors are not all inclusive they are just the ones that had the most impact on my decision when picking a type of a pet. I am currently watching my Soldiers dog while he and his wife are on leave in the United States and this is reinforcing how much easier military life is with a cat rather than a dog.
When I bought Katie to my apartment, she was so frightened. She meowed all night. I called Judy to say that I didn't think I could care for her, but Judy encouraged me to give the cat time to adjust, because she was in a new surrounding. I started feeding my new cat fresh Purina One Special Care dry food and Friskies moist food along with a fresh bowl of water each morning and evening. I also bougth a cat brush to stroke her long luxurious black and white hair, plus I took her to the Vet for an annual booster and rabie shot so I could give the records of the shots to my Manager.
We all are busy people who are out of the house most of the day. We need a companion to help us ease the stress from daily life. For example, if you are purr-catinating on essays or preparing for speeches late at night, you at least have a companion by your side. A great companion is the cat, you get to pet a fluffy thing and get free scratches. Why cats? Well, cats are purr-ty interesting creatures. According to Discovery News, in 1960s, the CIA tried to turn a cat into a spy, but un-fur-tunately, they failed when the cat was ran over by a cab. Another interesting fact according to Buzzfeed is female cats are typically right-pawed while male cats are typically left-pawed. There is also a cat island named Tashirojima that are terrorized by stray cats in Japan. The main problem is there are too many cats in the shelters that need a home, according to ASPCA, approximately 3.4 million cats enter the shelters every year. Well the solution to this is you can adopt a cat. There are a few things you need to do before adopting a cat.
With how easy it is to obtain all sorts of creatures to bring home, these are just a few thoughts that you should consider before welcoming anything into your home. Avoid giving in to your toddler's tears over a kitten or having your newly introduced eel munch on the rest of your fish, by making a responsible decision. Although finding the right pet for your lifestyle may be time consuming, keep in mind that pets are not toys, but living creatures. Considering all that has been mentioned, following this procedure also helps to not contribute to the number of pets waiting for a new owner at shelters or rescues. When proper research is done, a suitable environment is supplied, and a well cared for animal is chosen, the likelihood of having a great relationship with your new friend becomes greater.
Why cats make the perfect pet (Dogs are okay, too, I guess) Cats are great animals in general, and having them as a companion can actually help with your stress levels and health! There are tons of breeds to choose from, and there will certainly be one that you like. Here are a few of my favorites: the Exotic Shorthair, the Persian, the Ragdoll, and the Scottish Fold. Just to name a few.
'' I think cats make better pets than dogs. When I was growing up, my family had dogs and cats, and I always liked playing with the cats better. One day, I discovered that my favorite cat was pregnant, and we were all excited when she had a healthy litter of adorable kittens! It was so much fun to name them and play with them all.''
“A dog is a man’s best friend.” Is it a cat or a dog, is the question that most people deal with when they get their first pet. Due to being more desirable, dogs are better than cats, due to working hard and being smart. Although some people feel that cats are better than dogs because cats are more energetic.
When I got him, he was only ten months old and he was a very untrained dog that wanted to do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. After a few months of training he was an amazing dog that listened and he became a gentle giant. When I brought him home he bonded immediately with my other dog
There are many reasons to get a pet. You could choose to get a pet for a companion, or simply to add to your family. Many older folk choose to get a pet after they retire or lose their spouse so they do not feel lonely. Many young couples choose to get a pet before they opt to have children, and many families add a pet to their home for their children. The question is though, what type of pet to get? Do you get a cat, or a dog? Having a dog as a pet over a cat is much more enjoyable and beneficial to your life, specifically because of their behavior, convenience, and loyalty.
