Pluto was a very special dog. He was a large American Bulldog with thick brindle marked fur and a smooshed in bully face, he was also a big baby. When I got him, he was only ten months old and he was a very untrained dog that wanted to do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. After a few months of training he was an amazing dog that listened and he became a gentle giant. When I brought him home he bonded immediately with my other dog

Some of that included lymes disease. If not treated it can get really serious and cause muscles and tendons to weaken immensely and that is exactly what happened. He had two torn ACL's that the vet attributed to the lymes, along with arthritis in most of his joints. It gradually got worse and worse over time to the point to where he would cry and bark all night because of the pain he was in. He would always be limping, but even with all the pain he was still a really happy dog. More towards the end of his life he visited the vet a few times a week and they were watching him get worse with every visit. They suggested that we do put him down because he was only getting worse even with all the medication he was on. Starting about two days before we put him down he had the time of his life and was able to do everything a normal dog couldn’t do due to it would have negative long-term effects for dogs. We took him out for ice cream, he got cotton candy and chocolate flavored. He got to try all different types of candy and fast food; boy was he a happy dog while eating all that. He went swimming and running and so many other wonderful things that he enjoyed. When the time came it was a very quiet car ride there, he sat on my lap the whole was and was super excited because he loves car rides. We kept him outside the vet's office in the grass until it
They are very loyal and protective dogs. They are extremely intelligent and can learn both numerous and various tricks in a short and fast periods of time. Some can be found to be laid back, while others can be more temperamental. These dogs are always looking for something to do and should be put in a home where they can look forward to daily activity, exercise and training. Although these dogs can be mistaken for aggressive and even sometimes dangerous, these dogs will grow to be what they are brought up to be. If you want a loyal, smart, loving companionship these dogs will be there to the
In John Steinbeck’s novella, Of Mice and Men, a ranch hand named Carlson addresses a fellow ranch hand, Candy, regarding his old dog, “He’s [Candy’s dog] all stiff with rheumatism. He ain’t no good to you, Candy. And he ain’t no good to himself.” (Steinbeck 44). Candy’s dog is ancient and Candy and the dog live on a ranch during the Great Depression. It would be a hard life for anyone, especially for an old dog with an even older owner. The dog was falling apart at the seams; near blind, no teeth, and ached every time he stood. I’d imagine life loses meaning at that point, the dog wasn't enjoying life and probably hadn’t for years. Carlson, the ranch hand also states in regard to Candy’s dog, “Can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t walk without hurtin’.” (Steinbeck 47). Dogs are, by nature happy creatures and this dog was anything but happy. Naturally, this dog would have died long ago and honestly, it was the best option at this point for the dog. You know what people alway say, quality over quantity and at this point the quality of his life was
I have been around many different dogs from a young age and have grown to adore the Pit Bull over the years more than any other dog in my lifetime. I own one currently. Sjo is an 80 pound Pit Bull just over a year old. Ha...
People of different ages, young and old, will love having a dog or a pup around. They even treat them as their best friend. Nevertheless, you must also think of the possible consequences that come with owning one. Effective Dog Training is necessary for your dog and you should understand you have to make an effort to socialize your dog. You have to expose your dog to the outside world, so that it will not intimidate other people.
Dogs should be trained to be around people and other pets at an early age. Training a dog to listen and obey is the most important factor (Marketwire). A dog can simply be bored and want to play aggressively. No matter the breed a dog can always be trained not to be violent (“CAUSES OF DOG”). An improperly trained dog can turn out to be mean and aggressive. Also allowing your dog to practice these behaviors will cause them to adapt to them. Exposing a dog to new things will help it become comfortable with them and recognize them. Dogs use their bark as an alarming system (Marketwire). Knowing when and why a dog is aggressive is a key factor for changing this
All dogs, like humans, have the potential to either be nice or mean, respond well or poorly to the environment, and interact with others either up to par with social standards or not. The amount and type of socialization
Hip Dysplasia is a genetic attribute which is affected by environmental factors such as excessive growth, exercise, the dog’s weight and the dog’s nutrition intake. This chronic disease often arises while the dog is still young and physically underdeveloped around the five-month mark the symptoms will appear and it will deteriorate as they grow. This abnormality can eventually cause lameness and agonizing arthritis or even loss of function of the hip joint altogether. The larger breeds of dog such as Great Danes, Saint Bernards, Labrador Retriever and German Shepards are most likely to hold this genetic
The sad part is, it can be prevented. I am in hope that I have touched your heart in a special way today to make you more aware of the seriousness of this disease so your pet can live a long and healthy life. We have even gone through dog obedience and training with her and she still is aggressive and a little bit “too friendly” with some people. This dog could knock you down if you are not watching out! I know for a fact that most of the dog owners in this room have a large breed of dog either because you just love them or feel more safe with them around because they can be more aggressive if an intruder were to try to
Training your dog is the most important part of canine companionship. A happy dog is one who has structure and boundaries. Dogs are pack animals, and as such, they need guidance in the behavior that you expect from them. If you don't follow through in this leadership role, then the dog will naturally feel as if it is his place to do so. A dog that understands that you are the leader will naturally be easier to train.
I love when dogs enjoy training. Most dogs love to work. They will gladly sit, stay, shake, lie down, and roll over in exchange for giving them treats. They are easy to train because they respond quickly to commands. In addition, most dogs protect their owners and their territory. They either bark or
Roger Caras an Animal Welfare Advocate once said “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” Dogs are a man's best friend and they always have been and always will be. Losing a dog can suck and be heart breaking to many dog owners and if they don't find their dog then it really sucks. If you own a dog or just get a new dog it becomes part of you and part of your life. Dogs are an essential part of mankind. They are a man’s best friend, a loyal companion, and a fun and comforting play mate.
He claimed to have loved Pluto, which does not explain why he would kill it. “Pluto, this was the cat’s name—was my favorite pet and playmate. I alone fed him, and he attended me wherever I went about the house. It was even with
There are some people who think that a puppy automatically knows everything to do. For example they think that puppies know they shouldn't chew on shoes and furniture. But just as a child or toddler becomes bored and explores his surroundings, so puppies do the same. Young dogs have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of energy to run and play, and if not thoroughly exercised by playing appropriate games such as Fetch, they will become destructive inside the house. Another misconception related to being exercised is behavior. If a puppy is kept in a crate for eight hours a day and then let out only to go to the bathroom, then the puppy will have listening issues because the puppy has been confined and needs to run around and the owner refuses to oblige it. Also as young puppies, it is important to socialize them frequently with both multiple different animals and people. If not, the animal could act lovable to a family, but when a stranger comes into the yard, the animal could turn into a ferocious beast that could cause traumatic accidents to anyone. Dogs can be socialized simply by having friends come over to the house for a few minutes a day just to say hello. By taking a little time and energy and applying these simple rules, a new dog owner can have a wonderfully loving
The perfect dog sits, stays, rolls over and shakes .the very moment you decide to take on that puppy thats what most people think the puppy will be nothing but a cute playing little dog with good manners, “you must rely on the solid foundation of these seven things socialization, housetraining, sit, down, stay, come, and to walk nicely on leash. “ (De Vito 16)..From the beginning people have learned that a obedient dog brings upon many benefits for both dog and human. In reality when people get that puppy most realise that it was not born with the commands that most associate dogs with.
