My dream boss would be Paula Schneider, for a number of reasons. First, I would love to work under someone that must acknowledge, accept, and determine a solution for any given challenge. I say this because the way a person tackles a complicated situation shows the true character of the boss. Someone of good character and standing would be able to handle a challenging by realizing they aren 't always the smartest person in the room. It takes a village to raise a child, and similarly it takes a team to run a company. Another reason I would want Paula as a dream boss is because her experience as a leader. She has served on the executive team for Warnaco Group, Big Strike, and Kate Spade & Company. Paula has an impressive record in leadership …show more content…
Nevertheless, she didn’t start there. Just like every other CEO in America, they had to work their way up to the top, and she has done just that and more. Not only is she the current CEO of American Apparel but she was also the CEO of Big Strike LLC., a Gores Group portfolio company. Again, she has held many leadership positions in her life, so it is expected that she would have even created her own consulting firm. The Paula Schneider Consulting firm offers strategic consulting in Global Brand Development, creating institutionalized processes for best in class operations, acquisitions, and creating and executing brand strategies (Linkedin). As one can see, Paula has a lot of experience under her belt which explains why she was chosen to fill the American Apparel CEO position. In her past experiences serving on many executive boards, she has in all likelihood faced many difficult challenges that she had to overcome and/or solve. Her background proves that her position as CEO of American Apparel will provide her with communication opportunities and challenges for her to …show more content…
Her past in public speaking on these issues has given her the capabilities to handle the communication opportunities offered by American Apparel. As many advocates know, whether they are advocating for women’s rights or not, they face many oppositions and have learned overtime the best way to handle these situations. For the sake of the American Apparel brand, she needs to figure out the best possible method of communication for the brand. Paula must determine if public speaking, conferences, social media, or other forms of communication would work best for her company. Keeping this in mind, she has taken steps in all situations to communicate the value of the brand in question. Paula has been interviewed on numerous occasions with the purpose of pitching her ideas as CEO. She explains how she plans to improve American Apparel through redefining the focus of the clothing store. She plans to accomplish this by shifting the focus off of the scandal the brand holds, and zoom in on the quality and satisfaction of the brand as a whole. Paula’s interviews contained an extensive amount of information regarding her challenge as the new CEO and what she plans to do in order to tackle said challenges. Thankfully, in today’s world culture many if not all interviews are issued in writing and/or published to the internet. As a
The specialty retail and athletic apparel industry Lululemon is a part of is very competitive. The growth from competitors is increasing and Lululemon is in the midst of a global expansion and releasing a new product line in the hopes of gaining a competitive advantage. However, Lululemon has experienced hardships throughout the past year due to a lawsuit filed against the company in regards to their Luon yoga pant line and the fabric being see-through. This has caused many repercussions not only for the stock price, but also for consumers and management as a whole. As Christine Day has resigned, Laurent Potdevin has been announced as the new CEO of Lululemon. His past work experience, overall moral, and consumer approval demonstrate that he is the right fit for the position and someone who can turn Lululemon around.
As Teach For America continues to grow from an outside force for change into an army of soldiers of change to make systemic transformation possible, a closer look needs to be taken on how the organization puts itself forward to the general public. I strongly believe that the current public relations model is outdated and is in need of a refresh in order to truly reflect the diverse membership and to effectively counter biased misconceptions of the brand.
The idea of approaching leadership from the standpoint of values has been echoed in several studies. O’Toole (1995) compared and contrasted contingency and situational approach to leadership with value-based leadership. He stated that all leadership styles eventually enforces the individuals to follow what their leader commands them to do rather than focusing on what is the will of the followers – this he called as disrespect for the individuals. It is important for the leader to understand, why people are resistant to change in reality and must make a personal commitment to overcome this resistance to changing environment or culture. He suggested that if the company wants to initiate change that is constructive, focus must be placed on the
As the CEO of Abercrombie and Fitch, Mike Jeffries has turned the company into a multi-billion dollar brand by selling youth, sex and causal superiority, which gives way to the concept and emergence of an “imagined community.” The definit...
To fully appreciate the evolution of Columbia from “a corporation that was a niche manufacturer of outdoor clothing aimed at fishermen…into an international brand and publicly traded powerhouse,” (1) one must understand the level of perseverance, work ethic, dedication, and attitude of one Gertrude Boyle: now 87, but still “One Bad Mother.” (Exhibit1) Gert Boyle took over the family business in the 1970s after the sudden death of her husband. A candid and straight person, Boyle has often admitted that, having never worked a day in her life, she had no idea what to do when she first began running the company. (2) Despite her lack of experience, Boyle helped turn Columbia from a company near bankruptcy and collapse into a billion dollar publicly traded organization. Along the way she relied on her natural business savvy and perseverance, overcoming trials such as family tragedy and even an attempted kidnapping.
With God’s help the Biblical leaders Ezra and Nehemiah were able to fulfill their roles as leaders in the Jewish community. These men of God were chosen to be leaders to pray for the Israelites, relay Gods commands and encourage the people. As God’s leaders Ezra and Nehemiah carried out their respective duties even if fierce opposition awaited them.
Immanuel Kant was a moral philosopher. His theory, better known as deontological theory, holds that intent, reason, rationality, and good will are motivating factors in the ethical decision making process. The purpose of this paper is to describe and explain major elements of his theory, its essential points, how it is used in the decision making process, and how it intersects with the teams values.
The Book of Job The Book of Job Job was a righteous man who lived in Uz. He had seven sons and three daughters. He owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yokes of oxen, five hundred donkeys and many slaves. Each year, he held a banquet where Job would have each of his children purified.
On projects I have taken the lead on, I have always valued input from other employees. This assumes the fact that the employee is competent in their area, and have a willingness to share ideas with management. I encourage active participation, and I am often surprised at some of the answers that have come out of collaborative meetings. When employees feel at ease to share their ideas, genuinely good things
The term ‘leadership’ has no definition, for it is defined different ways in the minds of people. A leader will ingrain a sense of positivity and necessity towards the set goal using the power of written and spoken word. The qualities of a leader differentiate between between each society.
An authentic leader is someone who over the years has developed a unique vision; a person who is respected, not only because they are expert in their field, but is also respected because of their humility. An authentic leader is someone who is open to hear ideas other than their own ideas; someone who fosters creativity in a team. An authentic leader is someone who also sets clear expectations for the vision they have and along the way challenges their employees to achieve more than they even though was possible, but will those accountable who are not on board with the vision and expectations set forth. Lastly, an authentic leader is someone who will face and have to make difficult decisions without compromising core values.
Since August of 2015 I have had the privilege of working with an incredible leader in Andrea Williams, principal of Theresa Bunker Elementary School. She is the epitome of a well-rounded leader who exemplifies all of the qualities of a leader as described by House’s path-goal theory of leadership. Mrs. Williams works diligently each day to create a productive work environment. She is direct when she needs to be and is extremely respected by her faculty as a fair leader. As I have observed her over the past two years I have seen her leadership skills in action. I have been extremely impressed with her drive, passion, fairness, supportiveness and ability to create a positive climate and culture that makes work a positive
Successful leaders must be skilled in asking their team members questions that will provide useful answers. As stated “If people aren’t giving you helpful answers to your questions, maybe your asking the wrong questions” (Dennis, 2011, para. 1). Questions are essential in keeping a project on track, and are used to help identify any issues or constraints that could affect the outcome of the project. If a leader fails to ask questions they will not know if the project faces any challenges. If the project is facing a challenge, the number one question to ask is “Can we fix it” (Pink, 2010, para. 4). Leadership and management will be unable to help resolve issues if they don’t that they exist. The only way to know if their project is facing any challenges is simply by asking the right questions.
What makes a good leader? What makes a good leader is having the experience, knowledge, and skills to undertake the tasks and responsibilities.A leader would work toward their goals and succeed. There are many different characteristics to become a leader “Leadership is the art of leading others to deliberately create a result that wouldn’t have happened otherwise” (Search Inside Yourself). This is a great definition of being a leader and how they should rule. Some leaders can either have all or only some qualities to become a good leader.
In every work place you will find employees who are happy with what they do and employees who are just there to complain and collect a paycheck. My topic for this discussion will cover job dissatisfaction.
