Musical Autobiography

When he was little, all my youngest brother ever wanted was to play the piano. Each year when his birthday or Christmas rolled around he would ask our parents to buy him one. A piano is a big investment and my parents were unsure about buying one for their four year old. Finally they caved after he asked for the hundredth time and that year for Christmas he received a yamaha keyboard and lessons at Island Music. That day he started playing. As the months past, what was once just clanging on a keyboard became recognizable melodies. He’s a good learner and even though practicing isn’t always his favorite thing to do, my little brother loves to play the piano. Music is an important part of his life because it gives him something to pour his negativity into. This has taught me some very important lessons about the power of music. Number one, music rocks because it can be anything. I think for my siblings and I, our love of music started when we were born. When we were little our mother would wake us up with songs. During the day she sang songs while she worked on projects. Sometimes the songs had no meaningful lyrics or were just made up but I think this was the beginning of our love of music. Music rocks because it doesn’t have to be about anything, but sometimes it’s about everything. When my brother comes home after a bad day, he’ll just sit down at his piano and play. He justs goes from one song to another until he feels better. I find myself focusing on my music when things get bad. My friends can tell when I’m having a bad day because I’ll have my earbuds in and my ipod at max. volume. For a lot of teenagers, music is a great way to escape. It doesn’t matter the genre, you just plug yourself in and let it go. That’s another reason why music
