Recommended: Irony in poems

Literature connects people to the world around them with word play. This is meant to ignite the imagination, whether it is through poetry, short stories, or even drama. There are certain concepts one should understand in order to interrupt the various works. The idea is to read a story or poem and gain an understanding of what the author is stating. Reading material should move you in one way or another, whether it is to love or hate. One should experience some level of emotion through reading. The purpose of this essay is to survey a few different works of literature and compare the genres by the use of the elements of literature mainly symbolism and irony.

When one thinks of the pleasant encounters in life, there is usually a time, place, or object that makes the moment memorable. While examining a few short stories by Flannery O’Conner, one may be able to gain a better understanding of her use of settings and symbols. For example in the short story “Good Country People”, the setting takes place in a rural area. The setting in this story is almost like a character itself, without it, it changes the context of the story. Location, being in the right place at the right time; the setting of a story is a key element. The setting of a story, the place in which events happen, does more than provide site. The setting reveals details about the characters that may not have been known otherwise. The setting helps the reader understand the mind state of a character.

There is no exception in “Good Country People”. The atmosphere that is developed

In conclusion, Prose bond people to the world around them through the use of word play. This is meant to ignite the mind's eye, whether it is through poetry, short stories, or even drama. It’s the ability to draw a vivid picture while reading is one component that keeps a reader wanting more. Along with the various types of irony which give the story a twist. There are certain concepts one should understand in order to interrupt the various works. The idea is to read a story or poem and gain an understanding of what the author is stating. Reading material should move you in one way or another, whether it is to love or hate. One should experience some level of emotion through reading. The purpose of this essay is to survey a few different works of literature and compare the genres by the use of some elements of literature.
