Everyone has strong points and weak points in every aspect of life. Throughout this essay, I will be highlighting both my strengths and weaknesses working as an emergency medical technician. Among my strengths, people who know me would say that I am very hardworking, ambitious, and very down to earth in and out of the field. A downfall to my ambitious attitude is that I don’t take failure too well. To start off with, my strongest attribute would definitely be that I am very hardworking. With that being said, I like to be productive. I’m always on the move and will not stop until all of my responsibilities have been fulfilled. When shifts starts, I routinely check the ambulance, starting from the CDL and outside compartments, moving my …show more content…
way inside the rig and checking all of the equipment. Without the appropriate equipment and working order, safety and patient care would be compromised. In addition, I’m extremely ambitious and passionate about my job. I have an even greater connection with this profession than others out in the field being that I was directly impacted by EMS personnel as an infant. I was a “miracle baby”. I treat patients as if they were my own family and will perform to the best of my ability. Who knows, it might be you or someone you care highly for that I may have to save. Furthermore, people tend to say that I am a mellow, outgoing person. This works well in the EMS field as we interact with people on a daily basis, sometimes more than desired. Building good patient rapport greatly impacts the overall outcome of the call. They say, “communication is key to a well oiled machine”. With that being the case, good patient care is established, trust is gained, families are reassured, all resulting in a good patient experience. Communication skills determine the “smoothness” of the call, and I believe that is something that I certainly possess. Unfortunately, everyone has their nemesis. Mine, in particular, is that I tend to have too much pride in my work. I strive for greatness, which sometimes makes it hard for me to overcome failure. It is something that I have been working at by just letting go and focusing on the next task or goal. People make mistakes and have imperfections. Everyday is a learning process. “The more I fail, the less I will fail in the future as I will learn from past failures”. What have you done to prepare for MICT class? Working in the field as an EMT is an onging learning process.
Throughout this process, I have enrolled in college classes, studied the standing orders and formularies, practiced running calls as an MICT, and practicing BLS skills with family members at home. To further my medical knowledge, I have enrolled and successfully passed several college courses at Kapiolani Community College. First, I’ve taken pharmacology to grasp a general overview on the different classes of medications frequently used and the pathophysiology behind them. In addition, I am currently enrolled in Health 160, which highlights major human diseases and conditions. With this class, I hope to further understand the common illnesses dealt with in the field and the best treatment in these situations. Furthermore, I have acquired the standing orders and MICT formularies from fellow MICT’s that have recently graduated the class. Each day, these are being drilled into my head through flashcards and “hand made” signs being posted all over my house and in my daily vehicle. The more I see them around, the easier it is for me to remember the vital information. When it’s all said and done, I will have the standing orders memorized prior to the start of MICT …show more content…
class. In my opinion, BLS skills are the foundation of a good MICT. Practicing my BLS skills out in the field and at home have further prepared myself for medic class. At work, I run calls as if I were the medic and have gained valueable skills through many minor and critical incidents. Experience is priceless. When at home, I continue working at these skills by interacting with my family, especially my younger siblings. Pediatric patients are different from adult patients from size to presentation, and also decompensate very quickly. With that being said, I like to practice splinting, bandaging, and running pediatric calls at home with my younger siblings. I don’t treat as many pediatric patients as I do adult so I like to keep my skills up to par. BLS skills are the basis for a successful MICT career. Describe what you have done to build your strengths and improve your weaknesses.
Recognizing one’s strengths and weaknesses is vital for success in life. When identifying a strength and a weakness, one is able to build on and improve these attributes. Personally, I’ve done just that through repititon, goal setting, and research. Through repetition, my hardworking attitude kicks into play because I’m always on the move and looking for productive things to do. At work, I have a system in which I prioritize duties and almost always follow the same routine. To me, using repetition and building this systematic approach will help me in the near future as an MICT intern because the basic skills will all be muscle memory to me. This would in turn allow me to multitask and efficiently assess a patient while obtaining the necessary vital signs. In addition, working many overtime shifts throughout the past 2 years has definitely helped build my strong points and improve my weaker areas. Furthermore, both my strengths and weak points are highlighted by my goal setting attitude. I am a highly motivated individual who will keep striving for greatness and will set goals until they are fulfilled. In example, when dispatched to every call, I like to think about at least 5 possible diagnosis’ for the patient before arriving on scene. On these calls, I challenge myself to anticipate the next step or procedure to be carried out before my partner instructs me to do
so. Research plays a huge role with my success and toward my needed improvements. I am all about lifelong learning and am always willing to learn. With this career path, I’ve figured out that I will be learning something new, and have been learning new knowledge every day. I’ve implemented research in my daily life in work, and out of work. While at work, if I’m unsure of what a certain complication or symptom is, I will GOOGLE it or ask certain physicians a little more about the condition. With that being said, I will be prepared and more knowledgeable next time I am encountered with this problem. Medicine is an evolving subject and I feel that research is vital to keep up to par with present day knowledge and treatments.

Time management is key to being able to move quickly and be able to take care of things in a quick matter. Each individual gets to a point in life whereby they assess their internal qualities, people reflect their profession aspirations and attempt to see which careers will make them happy in their lives. It is also important for a person to consider whether they have the qualities needed for a particular profession and also consider the available resources that will help him or her reach their set goals (Chafey, Rhea, Shannon, & Spencer, (1998). Every human being has weaknesses and strengths in their personal or professional aspirations. Having strength means that someone has the physical and mental power to perform things in a successful manner. For personal and professional growth, given my personality traits, I need to embrace my strengths and weaknesses. I must use my strengths to my advantage, to be more effective academically and in the workplace, but I also need to identify and try to overcome my weaknesses, especially professionally.
This will ensure there is provision of education on medicines and their side effects hence fostering patient compliance. I will also set achievable goals by attending seminars and training workshops covering a range of topics concerning healthcare provision to patients.
Being able to know individual strengths and weaknesses is so crucial in our lives other than our careers. It is not only the positivity 's that matters, the negativities are very crucial too because they make us work harder to improving and getting better in what we do by helping us to achieve our goals after going through all those experiences. I have rated myself as a nurse by using the nurse manager inventory tool and saw a lot of competences on my experiences/skills. I also rated my strength and weaknesses. "According to Merriam-Webster 's collegiate(R) dictionary, Strength is defined as the quality or state of being strong" (Strength. 2012). "Weaknesses is defined as lack of strength" (Weakness. 1997). "Self-Understanding helps individual in his or her recognition of weaknesses assisting the person to overcoming any shortcomings in the nursing field" (Carson, 2005). To be a good leader, you must be empowered with the Knowledge on strengths and weaknesses. "Personal accountability hold us responsible for the work that we do followed by the quality of their actions by others (Basset, 2005). With this paper, I will be able to write after rating myself on strengths and weaknesses in connection to personal and professional accountability, career planning, personal journey discipline, and reflective practice reference /tenets. Again, I am going to discuss on how to use current leadership skill to advocate for change at workplace. Finally, I am going to recognize and implementation plan on achieving personal goal on leadership growth.
Coming into the nursing program, I was hopeful and looking forward to the new career. I have had issues, and it has taken me longer than expected to complete the program. I think because of this my strengths and areas of growth have changed. Per Strengths Quest my top strengths are ideation, connectedness, and individualization, strategic, and deliberative. I think the areas that will help me most as a nurse are ideation, individualization, and strategic. Ideation has helped me to learn ideas and concepts quickly. So, I can explain them to those around me including patients. Likewise, being able to focus on the individual means I can what people need by finding the best way to act that out. It particularly helps in the areas of educating, and advocating for the patient, as many procedures and protocols will be the same. Also, being strategic will help me get things done efficiently. As I get more experience as a nurse I can use this to consider new ways to improve the working environment for those around me as well.
To begin, I am going to write about my weaknesses and how they transitioned into strengths. First, I remember after each assignment in class was introduced I
My strengths were that I were active and did some patient teaching in the Cath lab. I also advocate for my patient when I talked to the nurse about the patient concerns. I worked together with my peer to give the best care that we can to the patient in the sim. I also priority the patient’s problem when I decided to give oxygen to the patient in the sim. My limitation were that I did not correlate with my peer enough to priority the patient’s problems. I should be more active and confident during sim time.
