Discussion Forum Unit 3 As a leader one of the strategies that I must follow to develop and improve my leadership is my social skills. According to my MBTI my personality is INTJ, which gave me a proportion of Introvert (19%), iNtuitive (27%), Thinking (31%), Judging (72%), these proportion of be introverted and intuitive correspond to a reality that many times makes that I look shy and litter communicative creating a barrier between me and my partners. My strategy to overcome this obstacle is try to interact more with my partners specially in our weekly meetings, arriving earlier in order to socialize before the meeting start, also I am planning to develop a list of birthday to at the end of each month make an activity to celebrate the
birthdays of the employees, that way I can build empathy and show that everybody of this team is important. Certainly communication is essential in leadership, and the way that others and myself can feel that I am communicating as a leader is when this communication take place in a respectful context no matter the problem or difficulty of the moment, the communication must be horizontal like in a team not vertical from superior to subordinate. Another important characteristic of a leader’s communication is show interest for what others are saying because this create a constructive critic which helps to eliminate weakness becoming a group in a team.
The anti-social behaviour act was made in 2003. The reason for why this was made was to make the rules of anti-social behaviour better and work more efficient also to do the same with the fixed penalty notices. However, in reflection of my past teamwork experiences in class, I am often one of the organizers and stronger voices, connecting me with being a natural leader. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) has recognized my profile as Introvert, Intuitive, Thinking and Judgment (INTJ). As an introvert, I can get nervous among other people. It does not pose a problem for an individual. On the other hand, in order to be an effective leader, it is important for me to keep a profound communicational relationship with my subordinates. Without proper communication skills, it is not possible to establish a functional relationship with my subordinates. This may jeopardize the success of any activity that we are involved in. The introvert part is perhaps the major barrier which may keep me away from being an effective leader.
This implies that I am extremely outgoing, social and energetic. “According to its definition, an extravert is high on sociability, talkativeness, energy and assertiveness”. As a result of me being an extravert, it will affect my ability to work in teams. This implies that I am a participative team member and am able to communicate effectively due to my social and talkative nature. Overall, I contribute to the team process in a confident manner. As a result of my confident manner and social personality, when working in teams, I have the ability to confront the team about ideas, issues and other decisions which need to be addressed. E.g. Campaign ideas. Therefore, I could be considered a leader of a team. I will almost always apply my knowledge, learning and experience to enrich the teams output as a whole. However, being an extravert does mean that I can be assertive and have the desire to be in full control of the team. Thus, this can affect relationships with other team members as I can be quite controlling over decisions, such as an advertising campaign. The general personality traits, which are related to success both in and outside the workplace, are all inherent in my answers given in the Leadership Assessment Quiz. With statements such as, “it is easy for me to compliment others” and “team members listen to me when I speak,” it is apparent I possess these characteristics. Whereas my task- related personality traits associated with successful leadership, such as courage, still need to be developed. Not only do I know this in myself, but it is clearly pointed out throughout the test, with statements such as, “resolving conflict is an activity I enjoy” and “I would enjoy coaching other members of the team”.
The results that I have obtained from the personality assessment were: INTJ. These results identify that I am an introvert; I tend to be intuitive; I am a thinker; and that I need closures and feel the need for things to be organized or structuralized. I personally believe that the results I have obtained from this assessment truly reflects who I am. If I contemplate about it, I need to be able to grasp onto things before processing the next information, especially when people are telling me multiple things at a time. I enjoy to be myself and sometimes, around a group of other people. But, I mainly tend to study alone and stay to myself rather than engaging with other people. Personality plays a role on what type of leader a person will become or how they will manage people. Leadership is the combination of trait, behavior, attitude, value, and belief. My personality result is virtuoso (ISTP). Virtuoso loves to explore and examine their environment; people with this personality are natural makers and move from project to project. People that have this personality love to lend a helping hand and share their experience if it benefits other around them. Virtuoso personality is very uncommon; they are only about five percent of the population. As a female with this personality, it is very rare because they are mostly classified as tomboys by the societal standard. Individuals with this personality are difficult to predict, they have a strong sense of fairness and they believe in doing unto others as to you want others to do to you. Virtuoso struggle with boundaries and guideline, they prefer to move around and step outside the box.
My professional attitude is similar. I find that I try to communicate well with others and express my interest through body language such as smiling, eye contact, nodding of my head, etc. I do to show that I can be personable and hope to build good relationships on that. Based on my scores, I also show higher scores for Conventional, Dependant, and/or Avoidance. This is true in the sense that sometimes, if I find myself too comfortable in a situation; I tend to become withdrawn in order to protect my well being. I don’t want people to take advantage of me, so I become distant after a certain point. This does cause conflict for me both at work and in my personal affairs.

After understanding the theory behind both the trait and skill approach, I was eager to evaluate and reflect on my own leadership traits. It was interesting to see how the trait approach allowed me to better understand whether or not I have certain traits considered to be important for leadership, while skills approach allowed me to evaluate my strengths and weaknesses in the technical, human and conceptual skills. From completing the Leadership Trait Questionnaire (LTQ) and the Skills Inventory, I was able to reflect more on how I behave towards others in a leadership context, as well as the skills that I currently possess. The candid conversation is helpful in expressing one’s thought but it can be fatal sometime. I believe that there has be a balance between being too extrovert and being too introvert. It is a common belief that introvert people are shy, they cannot speak in the presence of other. But the truth is that introverts are not shy, they prefer to be alone by choice. They feel energized and more productive when they are alone rather than surrounded by people. We can say that energy is drained in the presence of other. While extroverts are the outgoing people and feel energized in the presence of other. They think best when they are speaking. I am a person who is neither too introvert and nor too extrovert. I think I am more productive, thoughtful and can take better decisions when I am alone. At the same time I like hanging out with people and talking to them, but there is a limit to it. I think it is a good quality for a manager that he is neither too introvert nor too extrovert. If a manger is introvert he cannot perform his job properly as his job involves speaking to his co-workers and delegating the responsibilities to individuals commensurate to the individual’s experience and capabilities. The manager can know about the strength and weakness of his team by speaking to them. He cannot just sit in the office and know about the individual by looking at the profile of the person.
