Loyalty The quality of being loyal to someone or something is a choice of action that helps define loyalty as a person. Being loyal would be a person giving or showing continuous support to someone or something. Loyalty plays a major role in everyday life. Some people honor loyalty and some people couldn’t care less about having such a thing. Loyalty consists of working a marriage out, maintaining a good reputation, and keeping a steady job. According to Maurice Franks, “Loyalty cannot be blueprinted. It cannot be produced on an assembly line. In fact, it cannot be manufactured at all, for its origin is the human heart the center of self-respect and human dignity. It is a force which leaps into being only when conditions are exactly right for it and it is a force very sensitive to betrayal.” Many people believe that loyalty is the key to making things work in this world. Carlton have been together for approximately 23 years. Mr. and Mrs. Carlton had been through a lot together, but have managed to stick it out with each other. From the first time they laid eyes on each other, they knew they were in love. They both knew that marriage was a give and take relationship, which involves effort, hard work, and dedication. They understood that they had to stick to their vows and be there for each other no matter what it took. Mr. Carlton gave up his dream job to be a neurologist at John Hopkins Hospital to work in a nearby town close to the married couple’s home together. Mrs. Carlton gave up her job in her home town and started all over just to be with her husband. There were never any secrets among the two, everything he knew she knew. The two were completely loyal to each other. The unbreakable bond they shared for 23 years was a reward, better than any price they had to pay to be together. In this case, loyalty brought about the up most happiness and true love. Which are things that many people spend their whole lives looking for, when the answer is in the 15th century word loyalty. The lack of loyalty when trying to have something special can be the key to disaster or failure.
Failure can cause trust issues and other problems in the future, when early attempts don’t work out. In Taylor Perry’s movie, “Temptation”, it was about a young woman and a young man who had been best friends since they were kids. As time went by, they started off dating and eventually got married. According to Tyler Perry, there was temptation at the young woman’s job. It was a young man who was rich and had his own company. Therefore, he wined and dined her for a while to show her another side of life. After falling for her client, the young woman left her husband. Once she started living with the client he had introduced her to drugs, he started abusing her, and gave her a disease she could never cure. Long story short, this is a brief example of what can happen when you stop being loyal. The young man who remained loyal was happily remarried and reaped the benefits of being loyal, while the young woman was suffering from the consequences from being
disloyal.
Loyalty is one of the ethics that is instilled in a person at a young age. Loyalty can range from loyalty to a family member, friend, teammate, ect. She told the suitors that when she finished her tapestry she would choose who she wants to marry, but every night she would undo a piece of the tapestry just so it would take longer and it would give Odysseus more time to come back just so she would not have to choose one of the suitors.
