The Odyssey Outline.
In the Odyssey, loyalty to family and friends comes before loyalty to the gods. A very obvious example of loyalty is, Penelope. She is faithful to Odysseus for over 20 years and does not give up for long time. Even when the suitors came to her house and ate her food and overstayed their welcome she did not budge and still stayed faithful to Odysseus for the whole time he was gone. She told the suitors that when she finished her tapestry she would choose who she wants to marry, but every night she would undo a piece of the tapestry just so it would take longer and it would give Odysseus more time to come back just so she would not have to choose one of the suitors.
Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, also was very loyal to his father even though he was just born when his father left for his voyage. But he still stayed strong and did not listen to the suitors when they told Telemachus that his father was dead. He went out on his own voyage to try and find him himself. Also he wouldn't let his mom merry the suitors

Respect me, have mercy. You will be sorry in time to come if you kill the singer of songs. I sing to the gods and to human people, and I am taught by myself, but the god has inspired in me the song-ways of every kind. I am such a one as can sing before you as to a god. Then do not be furious to behead me. Telemachos, too, your own dear son, would tell you, as I do, that it was against my will, and with no desire on my part, that I served the suitors here in your house and sang at their feasting. They were too many and too strong, and they forced me to do it.’ So he spoke, and the hallowed prince Telemachus heard him. Quickly then he spoke to his father, who stood close by him: ‘Hold fast. Do not strike this man with the bronze. He is innocent. And let us spare Medon our herald, a man who has always taken care of me when I was a child in your palace .’ (22.344-358). In the story The Odyssey, Odysseus showed many traits. I believe the most important trait he showed was loyalty. He showed it in multiple situations. Odysseus showed loyalty when dealing with the sirens, the louts eaters, and the cyclops.
The Odyssey is an epic home it was written by homer in the classical Greek. The story is about the main character Odysseus a Trojan war hero and his journey to return home to Ithaca conflict and obstacles are throughout the story and affect different characters many of the characters experience some form of reciprocity by the end of the epic and get what they
In The Odyssey, Homer conveys a mixed message about Odysseus’s crew. At times, they seem loyal, whereas other scenes reveal them as disloyal. Homer does this to help center the attention on how Odysseus can fall victim to temptation and stand up to take control of his crew. The critical moments where Odysseus and his crew are in disagreement are significant because they demonstrate how Odysseus is epic, yet still human and flawed.
Throughout its history, strong values have stood at the core of Greek culture. Ancient Greeks placed a focus on a balance of mind and body. Citizens were expected to adhere to three main Greek virtues; these being respect for the body, respect for the gods, and hospitality. At times, these virtues were not upheld, usually resulting in what they believed to be punishment from the gods. Examples of this can be seen in the epic, The Odyssey, authored by Homer. Throughout the poem, a repeated disregard for the ancient Greek values teaches readers a fundamental principle of life--consequences follow poor decisions.
“What goes around comes around”,this great saying means that kindness is key. In the Odyssey by Homer, one important theme states how hospitality and kindness are always the best policy. Temptations and Obstacles represents a glimpse of allegory in life. Friendship is also a great thing in life because it's about support through tough and good times. Always feel generous with your kindness and support like Odysseus did on his journey.
Loyalty, as defined in the Odyssey seems to be the constant devotion to someone, the hopefully longing of their return and victory. Homer seems to value loyalty over many of the other human traits, as Eumaeus gets not only Homer’s famous “you” but his own book as well. The swineherd is not the only character that Homer uses to show loyalty, Penelope and Telemachus show unyielding faithfulness to Odysseus throughout the epic poem; as do many other characters even gods. Homer demonstrates the value he places on loyalty through the use of these characters with their devotion to Odysseus. Through the use of these characters Homer shows the value of loyalty by their loyalty to Odysseus.
For hundreds of years, psychologists have attempted to understand why toddlers selfishly refuse to share. Recently, many experts in the field agree that toddlers are incapable of sharing because of their lack of integral brain development. From birth through early childhood, a child can only recognize his own wants and needs. Around the time a child begins kindergarten, he starts to development his understanding of abstract concepts, such as empathy, and sympathy. However, some believe that humans never rid themselves of that original selfishness. In essence, humans are born selfish and hopefully become compassionate later on. The idea of a natural tendency towards selfishness
of a year. It is only after hearing the appeals of his men that Odysseus
Numerous characters in Romeo and Juliet show great loyalty, but the outcome of this loyalty isn’t always good. All three of these examples of loyalty with the servants, Tybalt, and Romeo
Throughout the Odyssey, there are many relationships that represent love between two people. These relationships show loyalty, compassion, and the wanting to be near one another. Two of these kinds of relationships are between Odysseus and Telemakhos, and Odysseus and Penelope.
The Iliad by Homer is an epic poem separated in different books or chapters that shows a fictionalized account of the Trojan War. Book 6: Hector Returns to Troy is the specific portion of the poem that is being covered in this essay. Hector from the Iliad shows a very clear aspect of his personality, a strong sense of loyalty and tenderness for his loved ones and also his people by being on the front lines during the war and showing his people he is willing to fight with them and essentially sacrificing himself for his family. Hector even knows his forgiveness towards his brother, Paris even though Paris is the main reason the Trojan War is in existence.
From the ashes of Troy, the light of Rome was born through an act by a man who would be deemed both courageous and cowardly by those who once protected it. The early Roman army was one of the most feared and capable armies in ancient times in part due to their strict code of loyalty and punishment of those who betray said code. One of the most reviled crimes was the act of cowardice and the Roman Empire enforced loyalty among its ranks. To betray Rome was to essentially betray the gods. The hero of Aeneas is a rare character in Ancient Roman history that both forsake the gods he serves but also abides to their will. In defying the code of the Roman soldier, Aeneas would help found a city that would outlive the fallen city of Troy.
In the graphic novel The Odyssey by Gareth Hinds the suitors are much like the sharks in the book The Old Man and the Sea. The Suitors “eat away” at Odysseus’s wife much like how the Mako sharks eat away at the the Marlin the Old Man caught. In The Odyssey Gareth Hinds uses his artistic talent to depict the suitors as over confident pigs. He does this by associating a drab color with the suitors in each frame, and also by always putting smug smiles on their faces. On page nine and eleven in the Odyssey you can tell the mood of the suitors is very happy and careless while Odysseus’s wife is very melancholy. The Suitors are slowly wearing away Odysseus’s wife just like the sharks slowly eat away at the body of the marlin.
When people think of high schoolers, their first thoughts are not ‘heroes’ and more like ‘annoying, needy, rude children who assume they’re adults’, but there’s where they’re wrong. An average high schooler is more of a hero than Superman or Batman by a long shot. In The Odyssey, Odysseus and the people around him show an abounding amount of “heroic” traits, such as bravery, patience, honesty, being supportive, and compassion. Sound familiar? An average high schooler shares those same traits, therefore making them heroes too. Bravery can be critical in a high school environment, what would else could someone use when standing up to a bully or asking an attractive person on a date?
In the Odyssey, Odysseus finally gets back to Ithaca, but finds that more than a hundred suitors occupy his house. In order not to get mauled to death, Odysseus comes up with a plan. Odysseus must find someone trustworthy to help him, to do this he disguises himself as a beggar. I also like to plan ahead, weeks before a vacation I know exactly what I’m bringing. With this in mind, Odysseus plan was to kill all the suitors so that none could harm him or his family. “Your last hour has come. You die in blood” (957) yelled Odysseus to all the suitors. With the help of his son, Telemachus and two trustworthy friends, Eumaeus and Philoetius, they completed this plan. (960) “They room is reeking with blood. Thus the battle with the suitors has come
