What is Trust?

One of the hardest things to earn, and easiest to lose is trust. This powerful word is described as a firm belief in the reliability, truth, dependability, or strength of someone or something. In some ways this word is similar to respect because it is not simply given to you or somebody right away, you first have to prove and show your trustworthiness and that you deserve to be trusted and that you are reliable to not break the trust. Many people go through life having trust issues caused by the people who have lied to or hurt them, or proven to be untrustworthy. This makes it that much harder to give a new person coming into your life trust so easily since you may be worried about the same things recurring and causing you to lose all the trust for them. You may begin to put up trust boundaries, and walls where you start to prepare yourself for the future and the likelihood of people losing your trust since that is what you have experienced and been through. Trust can go all the way back to when you were a little kid and your parents trusted you up until the point of when you proved to them that you cannot be trusted, for example making a mess and saying sorry and that it wont happen again, but in reality you're just a kid and it is inevitable that you will make more messes. Your parents may begin to have the doubt of your sincerity when you say sorry and start to not trust you. I am sure almost every kid has lost some sort of trust with their parents and the next time they ask if they can go out or stay the night at a friends, they are shot down with, “No, what happened last time, we can't trust you.”

Trust dates back all the way to when peons and civilians trusted that the king and queen would protect their people and take car...

In conclusion I have shown that trust takes years to build, seconds to break, and forever to repair. It takes a lot of truths to gain trust, but it only takes one lie to lose it all. Throughout my lifetime I have been affected by my friends, family, and loved ones dealing with trust and what it means. Defining trust has made me more wise and open my eyes to the fact that trust is earned and not given, and very easy to lose. I am someone who wants to be trusted and able to trust others, so defining trust has made it easy for me to get past a broken trust, hope for the better, allow time for change, and let trustworthiness show.
