I would like the opportunity of being employed with the MPSD because my family consists of three generations of Lincoln High School graduates. Teaching in the district will allow me to build on the family tradition. I had the pleasure of completing my student teaching placements in the MPSD and I felt included and welcomed from the first day. I would truly enjoy an opportunity to work with the MPSD staff again. Detroit, once known as a bustling city of fast cars and bling, is now known for its poor education system. Detroit, minus its Red Wings, has failed at every turn economically and educationally. With its population cut in half and poverty rates soaring, there is no telling what can stop this disaster of a city. The only hope, it seems, is to better educate the region that Detroit inhabits. Detroit Public Schools has been one of the worst performing school districts in recent years. In 2013, the city of Detroit filed chapter 9 bankruptcy, the largest account of bankruptcy to-date. Good teachers avoid Detroit Public Schools because of the poverty, job quality, and low pay, leaving children with the unqualified teachers they have today in this poverty-plagued city that they call home.
Not only did we help students with their work, we also organized school fundraisers and organized things around our school. On September 21, 2015, I was assigned this case to follow up. This case involves Ms. Hadja Bah a thirteen year old Francis Hammond School student. Ms. Bah has a previous runaway history and refuses to follow curfew set at home. Hadja had runaway several times (15-138346/15-121625/15-118272) which I have investigated several of the incidents. CPS investigator Ms. Alice Keany did a family assessment for the Bah family.
My mind has been opened to different ideas in the school, such as, where I would prefer to teach, or different discipline and learning ideas for students. I am very thankful for the opportunity I had to observe Mrs. Lee and spend time at Oak Park Elementary. This observation has made me see that my main goal to be a teacher is to educate children and to love of them. As I looked at the different faces of some of the students and the way Mrs. Lee interacted with compassion and care towards them was something that I want to strive for when I become a teacher. I do still plan to be a teacher if the Lord continues to lead me in that path. If I did not become a teacher, I would still want to somehow be involved with the school system or with helping children through life
I want to be in ASB because I think that this is a great opportunity for me to practice my leadership skills to help all students at Medea Creek. I enjoy helping people and working with others and I know that ASB is a wonderful chance for me to do so. I know that our school should have voices that help others who cannot speak up for themselves and I will help them raise their voices in school. I want to be part of ASB because I think that this can help me mature, and also help achieve my goal for life, which is becoming the president of the U.S. I believe that ASB is a unique opportunity to help me become a game-changer in our school and community. Current public high school curriculum are simply too easy. Students are able to take too many easy classes that do not challenge them. This is the first point that needs to be focused on when trying to fix this problem. Within this one cause, there are many different solutions. However, I do not have the time here to name them all. I am going to focus on one particular recommendation that I believe would help the most.

I was faced with a difficult decision when choosing to stay at Sheridan or coming to Mid-East. Part of me did not want to leave Sheridan because of my friends, classes, teachers and of course just being shy. I think going to Mid-East was the best decision I have made for many different reasons. One reason is because I enjoy all of my academic classes, here at Mid-East I am doing a lot better academically. I have been on the honor roll many times including the last grading period. Another reason I think going to Mid-East was a great decision is because of lab. I love working with the children in lab because they are all really funny and make me laugh often. When we think of high school graduation we usually think of its great benefits and as we get older we are able to realize how crucial high school graduation is to our future. However, although this is true there are still very low graduation rates for students of color and lower economic status. In order to put in place any type of preventions or interventions we first need to understand why it is that students are dropping out of school. According to some studies the top reasons why some students drop out of school is either because they are pushed out, pulled out or because they simply fall out (Doll, Eslami, & Walters, 2013).
For the lead teacher interview assignment, I had the opportunity to sit down with and interview my son’s EC teacher from last year, Mrs. Hamm. Since my son started at the school last year, Mrs. Hamm has helped him in so many different ways. Mrs. Hamm has been teaching for over 20 years from her home state of Pennsylvania and more currently at Mount Energy Elementary School in Creedmoor, NC. Mrs. Hamm has been teaching at Mount Energy Elementary School in Creedmoor, NC for the last 12 years and recently awarded “Teacher of the Year”. Mrs. Hamm, up until this school year, was the main EC teacher for all grades Kindergarten through fifth grade at Mount Energy Elementary School. As of the present school year, the school district made the determination that she was over the acceptable number of students. As a result, they decided to hire an additional EC teacher and assistant to teach grades 3-5th and Mrs. Hamm would teach grades K-2. Mrs. Hamm was the teacher of 18 students until this decision was made, now with grades K-2, she has 9 students in her class.
Now that I have told you what has led me to this decision I would like to tell you exactly why I have chosen to become a teacher. I want to become a teacher not because of the salary nor because I want weekends and holidays off; rather, I want to become a teacher because I truly have a passion for making a difference in others lives. I feel that teaching is perhaps one of the most fulfilling roles in life. Becoming a teacher to me means helping to shape another person by teaching and instructing them.
The reason that I would like to become an MIT at Rhody Market is that I believe that this position will allow me to grow greatly. Becoming an MIT would mean I would have a lot more responsibilities than I would have as a general employee. I also believe I have the skills required to become an MIT. I'm good at working fast, learning new things quickly, I can work on my own and with others, and I have good-time management. By being an MIT I would be able to expand not only on the skill I already have but also on my leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. I also believe this is a great opportunity for jobs that I may have in the future. If I apply for another job outside of school or even for my career they will see I am a student
...her. I think I would be a good teacher at any level because I feel I have a very analytical mind and I like to figure out how people think and get the best out of them. I enjoy when teachers make learning fun and I know I can be an affective teacher while making learning fun for all students. I must admit the summer off is very appealing although I know teachers put in many after hours during the school year. I feel I can be a positive influence to the students that come into my classroom. One of my most memorable times in my school life was when I was in Mrs. Husted’s class. I didn’t do any homework, didn’t make good grades, and wasn’t very well behaved in her class. Despite all the challenges, I through her way she always helped me and encouraged me and made me do the work I was responsible for. That’s why I want to be a teacher to help students that were like me.
