Everyone should set goals for themselves so that they constantly have something to work for. You use short term goals to help you achieve things that need to be done in order for you to attain a long term goal. You must “Begin with the end in mind,” as Stephen Covey wrote. My goals often change as they become more challenging, but I never lose focus of my lifetime goals. Everything I do now, whether success or failure, prepared me for what is next on this journey to the finish line. My most recent short term goals I have set for myself have all of these factors woven into them with one vision in mind.
My lifetime goals consist of achieving my career in teaching, making a difference with my career and to keep striving for advancement even after my educational years are over. One of the most important lifetime goals I have, however, is to make sure my family is taken care of financially. I will be successful and provide for my family the way I wished someone would have while I was growing up. I won’t get there just by wishing, of course. I remember looking back at being a freshman and telling myself I wanted to be at the top of the class. I set those small short term goals such as to take all advanced measure courses and to retain straight A’s on my report card. Every year I started new, but kept the same vision. I focused strictly on school and three years later, I am currently ranked second in the class. The long term goal I had then and viewed as years away has already become a reality. I want to continue that chain by working to pay for college, succeed and graduate with my degree. The short term goals I have set for myself will guide me
