Everyone is now using social media for their personal use and to communicate in many ways. Social media is a way for businesses and health care professionals to include social networking to educate, promote, improve or enhance the work place. According to the article by C. Lee Ventola (2014). Social media refers to “Internet-based tools that allow individuals and communities to gather and communicate: to share information, ideas, personal messages, images, and other content: and, in some cases to collaborate with other users in real time”. When thinking about my employment at Life Quest and social media, the CEO just recently created a Facebook page. The Facebook page for Life Quest is fairly new at it gives a brief overview about what services we provide and events that Life Quest will be a part of. Within the Facebook page it has contact information and a link to our website. The website goes more in detail on what services we provide to adults and children 0-3 years of age. It also has pictures, newsletters, community events that we attend. It provides the organization’s mission, vision, philosophy and so much more. …show more content…
May 15th of this year, Life Quest was one of many nonprofit organizations who participated in Give grandly.
Give Grandly is a State wide fundraising event that is open for a full 24 hours. It helps local nonprofits organizing to raise money based on donations. Life Quest used Social Media “Facebook” to sway our friends, family and local business to donate money to our organization. Life Quest, raised $2119.75. I believe we raised this much money because of social media. The CEO at Life Quest asked all of the staff members, who has a Facebook page, to kindly “Like or share” the organization’s page. This way all of our “friends” will see it and it will give Life Quest a better chance at getting
donations. According to the text book Reece and Reece (2014). “If people send messages when they are feeling emotional or not thinking clearly, they may forget the impact their actions can have on their relationships and careers”. This statement is very true; we have to be very careful what we put out there on social media because once we hit submit or post picture it cannot be undone. For example, my co-worker got reprimanded for posting a selfie on Facebook in the company vehicle and a client’s face was in the picture. My co-worker wrote details about the client and also mentioned that the client was annoying him. This broke our company’s HIPPA policies. He was asked by our superior to take down the picture otherwise he would be written up or possibly fired for breaking the HIPAA law. Social media and health care can be a great for both patients and health care professionals. According to the article Ventola, C. L. (2014). Social media can do many things to improve and enhance professional networking, education, patient care, and promote public health programs. It can also be very harmful as well. Social media have poor quality of information, that are unreferenced, not complete or off the record. Social media can play a huge threat to a person getting or keeping a job. Certain behaviors that are found on social media according to the article Ventola, C. L. (20140. “missteps by HCP’s have been documented, including physicians taking digital photos during surgery, posing with weapons or alcohol, and posting tweets that are harmful to an individual or the profession”. We just have to careful what we post on social media and really think twice because it is etched in history forever.
In the past few years, the popularity of social media has increased tremendously. The board and evolving term ‘social media’ can be defined as a group of web-based applications and technology such as Facebook and Twitter that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content (Power, 2014). A myriad number of social media tools such as Facebook, YouTube, WebMD are available for health care professionals in Australia and globally (Power, 2014). Social Media is valued in health care as it can improve professional networking, student’s education,
Social media is affecting all spheres of life and no profession is left untouched by the impact of social media and nursing profession is no exception. Nobody can deny the benefits of social media for the profession of nursing yet its disadvantages for the registered nurses and student nurses during clinical practice cannot be ignored. “Social media can be defined as the constellation of internet-based tools that help a user to connect, collaborate, and communicate with others in real time” (Ressler & Glazer, 2010). Social media is growing at a very rapid rate and is now the mainstream communication method for most of the global population (http://www.internetworldstats.com/facebook.htm). It has brought a tremendous revolution in communication and disseminating information to nurses round the world.
It may be difficult to understand how the Odyssey, a 2,700 year old epic poem about gods and monsters, could ever symbolize life today. The Odyssey does, however, parallel to a journey of life because of the decisions made by Odysseus and decisions I will make as well as the trials he endured and the challenges I will face. Some of the obstacles I will endure in the future, including high school and college, may not be as serious as the monsters Odysseus had to face, nevertheless, they are still everyday situations that I must learn from.
Currently, social media is the most popular method of communicating and interacting with others. It is a methodology to new media as it changes and evolves with our needs and expectations. Social media has evolved and adapted to become a huge part of our personal and professional lives.

I am, Henrietta Lacks, and this is my story. My personal war on cancer was lost. I have died in pain, tormented by the tumors covering my body like a web, at the John Hopkins Hospital. But my life didn’t end at that point. Unexpectedly, the cancer tissue, which was taken from me by Dr. Gey, continued on living. Even though I was dead, my cells were alive - full of miracles to unfold and misery to cause.
Platforms such as Facebook and Twitter allow users to access company information, photos and employees as well as ask questions and express personal experiences with the company. It also allows potential employees to understand the vibe of the organization and gain a deeper and more personal understanding than a website. However, with social media, it is important to not ove...
While some have declared Facebook pages as not effective and waste of time, it is hard to ignore a social network that is free to use and has a population of over 1.26 billion (10/6/13). Out of this group, 728 million are daily active Facebook users, including 128 million daily active users in the United States. Ignoring this market is not a wise move. Though there may be some types of businesses that may be a challenge to post on a daily basis, having a presence and being active shows that your business is human and the follower can make and keep the connection going with your (business) voice.
When it comes to social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube, nobody wants to think about the negative effects it has on patients. Brian Cayko, the director of clinical education in the respiratory care program at Great Falls College, Montana State University in Great Falls, Montana argues that social media makes it easier for patients. When a patient is not able to acquire care at the medical facility, they can get in touch with their respiratory therapist with the use of social media sites. Cayko also states that social media sites can be helpful as “educational resources, patient support and social and professional networking.” I think that Cayko knows that everyone must remember the negative things about social media and the internet, with the understanding that just because it’s on the web doesn’t mean that it is the truth. No, not everything is wrong with social media sites, I am involved in social media sites myself; however, personally I know that when it comes to an occupation especially in the medical field, you have to be more aware of the negatives than the

The journey of life follows a predetermined pattern; we evolve from needing influence and guidance to finally reaching that point where our lives are up to us. I consider myself very lucky up to this point in my journey. Some people become sidetracked and wind up on a far different course than initially planned, but the detours I made have only assisted in embellishing the individual instead of devouring it.
Alice Walker's portrayal of a black family facing controversy is exceptionally well done. The behind-the-line inferences that one must obtain clearly exhibit Walker's intelligence. Her style is exquisitely felt throughout the short story. Rosa's mentality about her family and the mental conflicts that plague her give great importance to the story. The story vividly brings the reader back to the early twentieth century and shows the effect of racism on society and the family. "Kindred Spirits" is a short story that possesses many attributes that a short story must contain to be great.
In this day and age, many individuals simply cannot go without some sort of socialization. Specifically speaking, most participate in online social networking sites. The most popular and used one is commonly known as Facebook. Facebook was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. By 2007, Facebook had over 21 million users, adding up to 1.6 billion page views every single day. The typical user spends over twenty minutes per day on Facebook and two thirds of the users log in every day at least once. It is not questionable as to why many people have a Facebook account. Facebook is generally efficient, easy for socialization, and not difficult to manage. Most organizations are affiliated with Facebook, as “almost 22,000 organizations had Facebook directories,” as of November 2006. A year after that in 2007, Facebook was named the seventh most popular website (Ellison 1). However, with anything well known, many oppose to using Facebook and hold criticism against the popular network. There are many flaws in the website and the relationships it starts online. Facebook is risking dangerous activities, ignoring privacy laws, and demeaning healthy socialization.
